Carnival President, Christine Duffy, releases statement on the issue of inappropriate behavior on board its ships,

It is sad that trouble has risen to the point that the president of the line has to mention it. Cruising is a fun activity and there is really no reason to bring conflict aboard. Some is alcohol fueled, but some is caused by disrespect. We all suffer from others cutting in line, to outright discrimination, but aboard ship if you just allow a little patience, things will go well.

I will believe it only when I see it. So much illegal drugs use on Carnival ships these days and it is not going to stop until they start busting people in the terminal. Right now, they all know they can get it onto the ship rather easy.

I'm glad to see the emphasis.  Carnival did bring this on themselves to a certain extent by tolerating a bit too much following the restart, probably in an effort not to offend anyone.  Just like with teenagers when you're a parent, that doesn't work. It's easy to have a great time and not be disorderly. It's easy not to break the law. Sail on.

On Panorama in a couple weeks. Will be first time on it since the restart. (we were on it for the inaugural).

It's a week cruise vs the shorter 3 and 4 day but will be interesting to see the crowd. The people on board haven't been our issue since the restart on Carnival, it's really been the kids.

I wonder if we can pack tennis balls for the good boys?

How much and what kind?  Is there data somewhere that supports this? curious.

I assume that asalligo is referring to the uptick in blatant pot smoking on board, since it is legalized in so many states (and countries: Hi, Canada!) that it has become normalized and many people don't care it isn't allowed by Carnival and still illegal under US Federal law (which in theory trumps state law, but the Feds are not enforcing it "locally").

I don't think there is a concern about the other, harder, drugs.  But what do I know, maybe Carnival is a floating Opium den for some groups of people...

Cruise ships have absolutely been used to smuggle drugs. No evidence to suggest that is what Duffy was referencing in this press release however.

I mainly mean Marijuana which I have seen openly smoked on deck in the last year on two Carnival cruise ships. Security knew this was occurring, everyone could smell it. They were just letting it happen. Her threats have no teeth until this is stopped People have become accustomed to Carnivals lack policies and this attracts those kinds of people. You can bet that in groups they are asking each other, which ship can I bring my drugs onboard? Carnival.

On another cruise line, the disrespect and discriminations towards US citizens was the most horrid thing I have ever seen.  We are ALL people - you dont need to physically push anyone aside or be horrible to other people that may not be your nationality.  I was shocked.  But it does happen.

While I have not personally witnessed it, to the extent this has been happening it needs to be aggressively stopped.  I will agree that lack of enforcement may have become a significant issue.  Here's the reality.  With Carnival being so very public about all these code of conduct issues, they'll lose credibility quickly with the majority of their cruisers if they don't deal with it appropriately.

I have never felt the need to approach staff/security.  And I'm not a prude out there looking for misbehavior. But if it happens and I do and their choice is to completely ignore the transgression, I'll be very disappointed. 95% of Carnival cruisers are absolutely fine folks.  What we can't do is allow the 5% to rule the roost.

Interesting topic. I'm sure the fights on board are directly caused from drinking too much as smoking too much weed does not make one fight. With that said, the only way the can enforce this policy is too bite hard in terms of fines or not even allowing people on the ship if caught trying to board with it. Personally I do not care if someone smokes weed if done in the proper smoking location. I plan to smoke cigars on my next cruise but will respect others.

You can smoke cigars in outdoor smoking areas, just not in the casino. You cannot smoke marijuana anywhere on board.

Our local police will disagree with this. The high concentration commercial produced marijuana makes for very combative and aggressive users.  More of the local domestic violence cases  involve weed now than alcohol in the under 30 age group

Indeed - a lot of boomers may not know that marijuana today is much more potent than it was when Cheech and Chong were around.

I have not encountered the marijuana smoking everyone else has (maybe the cruises I have gone on), but I have encountered plenty of VERY rude people.  Blatantly cutting in line, making nasty/rude comments out-of-the-blue, rushing to the elevator to cut off the elderly/mobility impaired who had been waiting longer than them, etc. I could go on and on. I have a hard time not saying something when I witness these behaviors, but I have learned (the hard way) that the sort of people who behave in these ways are also the sort of people who get very aggressive and nasty if called out so it is best just to ignore.  I also feel like these bad behaviors have been substantially worse since the restart. It seems like people forgot how to act and be respectful during the shutdown.  Or maybe everyone is just extra stressed out in this world we live in.
