How high can it go....UBP?????

Recommended Posts

I booked a cruise 2 months out and since I had also booked multiple other items I decided to wait on the UBP since it was the highest I have ever seen it at 77.99 per day and I figured I would purchase it a little closer to sail date since why does Royal need ALL of my money so far in advance.  Well now it is 82.99 per day (Geez, where is the Prez Day Sale??).  Is it capable of going even higher??

And, if you book packages,  how are you guys finding out if the price lowers because will it actually show the lower price since you have already purchased??

Seen it Higher, $85, $92, my Daughter seen it above $100 on Oasis and Quantum Class after Boarding. I do Vision and Radiance where was always lower. They'll charge what people are willing to pay. I do B4B every yr, prices even week to week can be different. Was really Cheap during start up, Royal wanted that money Pre-Cruise

I’m in a similar position to the original poster. It’s listed as $85.99 for my upcoming Wonder Spring Break (so, $172 + 18% for 2 people).
The onboard price is listed as $102. **If they offer Buy one, Get one Half off when we board, that would be $153 + 18% for 2 people.

That’s IF they offer the BOGO Half off. I’m worried they won’t offer it.
I think we paid $68 + 18% last Spring Break on the Harmony.

4 or 5?   Diamond lounge plus 4 vouchers a day. I imagine they will scale that back too.

No Diamond Lounge unlimited anymore.

When it was unlimited all levels Diamond and up got 3 vouchers. But limited menu and limited hours. When they shut off the unlimited, it became 4 for Diamond, 5 for D+, and 6 for Pinnacle. Unlimited menu (more or less) and unlimited hours

6 per day plus a couple of my wife's is plenty for me

You'll probably start to see a lot more wine drinkers, as they can carry two bottles on (and rum runners being snuck on board).  People will start to get creative again.  Saw one where they emptied a red bottle of wine, poured dark alcholol in it, and then re-corked and got a wine cap shrink off amazon.  Looked like an un opened bottle of wine....

It's not even worth it anymore. I'd just rather have a few beverages out of pocket than pay those prices

That is what my spouse said when I told him current weekly prices are more than his cruise fare with gratuities...

That said, if it goes back to something reasonable on a Black Friday sale (since we cruise in 2024), I'll buy him the plan b/c he really does enjoy it.  I think his "reasonable" number is lower than mine, but he won't know.

No free booze in diamond lounge. Just vouchers.

Ahh man. I am about to make diamond.  4 drinks is more then enough for me.  I get free drinks in casino.  Can the vouchers be used in coco cay?  Is there a price limit?

Our last cruise was a 5 day on Grandeur, and it was the first time we ever went without a package.  It would have been more than the cruise itself!  The first bartender we talked to tried very hard to sell us  the package on the spot and looked like we kicked his puppy or something when we refused.

We are watching for the prices to drop on our upcoming 8 day on Odyssey.  I really like having the package and not having to sign for every individual drink, but breaking even at 83$ a day for 8 days straight is going to be difficult for us.

Maybe they could come up with a "lower-tier" option in the 50-60/day range, maybe without the fresh juices and waters and all that, maybe cap the per-drink limit at like 9$ instead of 13$...

Unbelievable daily price + 18% gratuity to have "fun" on a cruise while mentally anesthetized just to "break even"???  How about those who do even better than "breaking even"?

I managed 12 drinks/day on a 12 night cruise once.

The following week was rough.

Most people don't do it for the value they do it so they no longer have to think about the should I or shouldn't I of ordering a drink, they can just relax and get what they want.  Peace of mind.

This - I don't aim to make money, I just try not to really lose money, but the value in just not worrying about the costs while on a ship is great.  I don't love the current price though so we'll see!

If you really want it, I suggest you buy now.   Check in on your roll call and see if anyone mentions a sale.     Sometimes they have sales around Easter/

If only one person wants the DBP the 2nd guest must purchase a refreshment pkg and that can only be done by calling them.

If you will have more than 6 cocktails per day then it would be worth it.   If you enjoy getting fresh squeezed orange juice, specialty coffees, water bottles, as well as beer and cocktails then you will want the DBP.

You can view bar menu /prices on the app for your sailing to get an idea of what you may spend per drink.

If pax keep paying ever higher prices rcl doesnt have much incentive to sell it cheaper. I'd boycott these prices.

I’m thinking there’s a complex formula the bean counters use so that they can determine how much to raise the cost….looking at the money they lose by the light and then moderate drinkers falling off the grid, then comparing it to the extra money that the heavy drinkers pay with the significant increase.  I can’t even begin to understand that kind of predictive math.
