Ahh man. I am about to make diamond.  4 drinks is more then enough for me.  I get free drinks in casino.

Same here. 5 vouchers daily as D+, free drinks in the casino, a couple of discounts on wine by the glass if I run out of vouchers by dinner, and two bottles of wine to bring on the ship.  Haven't paid full a la carte prices for a drink onboard in a long time.

Unbelievable daily price + 18% gratuity to have "fun" on a cruise while mentally anesthetized just to "break even"???  How about those who do even better than "breaking even"?

One can "break even" and never come close to "mental anesthesia" or even the slightest buzz.

Your blanket statement really has no place

Maybe they could come up with a "lower-tier" option in the 50-60/day range, maybe without the fresh juices and waters and all that, maybe cap the per-drink limit at like 9$ instead of 13$...

I think they used to have it that way.  They had a beer package and a lower wine package, i think.  Its been a while before they just rolled everything into the DBP.

They use to have a wine and beer package which was a lot cheaper than the full alcoholic package, but stopped it years ago

I think we have established on multiple occasions that not everyone has the same tolerance regarding alcohol.  One person's mental anesthesia is another person's functional buzz is another person's sober-as-a-judge.

Of course.

Your statement is much more reasonable and not a blanket all inclusive indictment like the post I quoted.

Yes I don't understand the switch to only offering the one-size-fits-all option of the DBP.  Even their sister company Celebrity offers a wine package, as well as two different levels of package for spirits.

And, if you book packages,  how are you guys finding out if the price lowers because will it actually show the lower price since you have already purchased??

Can someone please address this? Once you purchase the beverage package are you still able to see the current price in your planner, or does it just say "you already purchased this item"?

They used to have the "Select" package which only included beer and wine.

The current price in my planner shows up just fine. There is a just a little blue banner that says reserved. You can't see the price you originally paid, but hopefully you wrote it down somewhere.

... If only one person wants the DBP the 2nd guest must purchase a refreshment pkg and that can only be done by calling them ...

They used to allow the second person to have soda package.  Is that over?

Yes, they used to have a beer-and-wine-only package that was cheaper than the everything package.

If you go to order history you should be able to see the details of the purchase.

Yes. But that just gives me the total cost, minus the OBC that I used to purchase it. It is much easier (if I remember), to note the price per day on that printout to compare costs with the current price per day. 😉

And then there is me... one Michelob Ultra and I am heavily buzzed. Who am I kidding.. it's closer to 3/4 of the way through. 🤣

Whud??   We can't drink unlimited in DL/suite lounge and then go use our vouchers later?

Well darn.

Not in the Diamond Lounge, but in the Suite Lounge you can drink unlimited and then go use your vouchers later.

Oh, I thought the order history gave the breakdown when hit details on the item ordered.    Like you said I always note what I paid to keep track and compare.

Just as not to confuse some, it’s Deluxe Beverage Package (DBP)…..and some do get confused with acronyms, especially when Unlimited Dining Package is UDP. 😉

Their made up acronyms because they're too lazy to type. Not everyone here is a cruise 'expert" and would be able to figure it out

Some of the brits on our upcoming sailing managed to get a lovely deal of £43 pp each day on their drink packages. What a fantastic deal. For us right now, that would be around $1260 for the two of us. But without that cool discount, we'd be forking out something like $1861 for two drink packages. We're on a 12 night sailing but since we are Diamond, we get 4 free drinks each per day.

I had heard that some people had luck with that last year.

Haven't heard if that is still an option.  Never hurts to try.

I've heard you can still do this but you have to call Royal to make this happen. You can't do it from their website/cruise planner.

My wife and I are not heavy drinkers.  Not even close.  When you consider all the drinks included (fresh squeezed juices, specialty coffees, soda, bottled water, alcohol, shakes from Johnny Rockets, etc) it is very easy to "break even".  Not that I'm justifying the high price but it makes it easier to swallow (pun intended).  Plus the added benefit of not having to worry about tracking how much you spent, if you should have another drink or not, feeling obligated to drink something that doesn't taste great because you just spent $14 on it, etc.  It works for us.  Just my .02.

By the way we paid $75.99 pp/pd plus tip for our upcoming 8 night Southern in June on Mariner.
