Emerald Princess Smoking Area

We are sailing on the Emerald Princess next year and we were wondering where is the outdoor smoking area? We are NOT smokers but we would like to know where they allow smoking so perhaps we can avoid those areas. On many of the Royal Class ships we are accustomed to cruising on they have an area on deck 17 aft where smoking is allowed so as a non-smoker it can be an irritating nuisance issue if you plan to spend any time in that area. It appears the Emerald Princess has a lot of area for loungers so I we were wondering if any of them are reserved for smokers?

Deck 7, starboard side. A small standing area aft just before the narrow area where the promenade goes around the stern of the ship. Roughly just under cabins E727/29/31. The remainder of the promenade is non smoking.

Deck 16 area adjacent to the Tradewinds Bar, believe port side. There are tables and chairs there.

I am not aware of any lounge area that is reserved for smokers. I have seen some that move lounges into the Tradewinds Bar smoking area.

Believe there is also a smoking area on Deck 16 aft in a seating area outside the Adagio Lounge.

Yes, all those are correct for Emerald. In addition, people smoke in the cigar lounge next to the Captain's Circle desk (it's really bad while waiting in line).

My DW and I were on the Ruby Princess last month.  The Ruby Princess, like the Emerald Princess, has a nice, beautiful, and full walk-around promenade on deck 7.  A smoking area is designated on the aft-starboard part of the promenade, which appears to be the case for the Emerald Princess as well.  Although not designated, we saw people smoking on the aft-port side a time or two as well.   We love to walk fully around the promenade, but stopped doing so since we did not like to walk through the cigarette smoke.  We understand that smokers need to have a space on the ship for smoking, but we think the promenade is a terrible location for it.   One of the nicest things about a full walk-around promenade is the ability to get some exercise and fresh-air by walking around it a few times.  The smoking corner ruins that experience for us.

I believe one reason for the small promenade deck smoking area is to allow crew from the kitchen areas to have a location to smoke without going too far. I have often seen a few crew members in this area. We walked around the promenade all the time. Never had issues.

That makes sense.  Perhaps we were just unfortunate to of hit at bad times, but each time we tried walking, there were a handful or so passengers smoking as we walked by. The smoke was not horribly thick, but my DW is sensitive to any smoke so it was enough for us to avoid it.

Just turn around and walk the other way.

Unfortunately, it will be wherever smokers want to be. Princess has not been enforcing the designated smoking areas. This has been a major disappointment and issue with Princess

My son loves to smoke.  Can anyone post a picture of the aft promenade area?

Emerald Princess. I don't have a photo. I can tell you that it is just a small standing area for a few people that is against the bulkhead, not at the railing, on the starboard side of the promenade deck just before the deck narrows to go around the stern of the ship. It is underneath the stairs which provide crew access to the life boats. There is a cigarette disposal unit on the bulkhead.

That stinks.  We have not sailed with princes for 15 years (been on over 30 cruises)...

Confirming:  There's no place to sit and have a cigarette outside?  That's a deal breaker for him.  I hate second hand smoke myself, but respect the wishes of other cruisers.

There is a smoking area by the Tradewinds Bar on deck 16 which has some tables and chairs. It is partially under the overhang. If I remember correctly there is also a smoking area with seats on deck 16 aft outside of the Adagio Lounge. There may be a smoking section in the evening in Skywalker's Nightclub.

In November 1922, nothing outside of Adagio or in Skywalkers.

I must be missing two things on the Emerald.  Is there not a Churchhill's Bar in/near the casino where you can smoke?

Also, do I understand from these posts that the Promenade Deck goes completely around the ship?  Diagrams don't show that. We were just on the Caribbean Princess and understood that was the only ship in the fleet that still had a complete promenade, even though it had stairs on both sides at the bow.

Yes, 360 degree promenade on the Emerald as well as the Ruby, Caribbean, Crown, Sapphire, Diamond, and Grand. What may have you confused is the forward section of the promenade is up the stairs on deck 8. The Coral also has a 360 degree promenade all on the same level.

I think you are misremembering. That aft area behind Sabatini’s and Adagios is one of my favorite spots….no smoking back there.  Trade winds, the standing room only small spot for crew that pax can use if they want on the promenade and the indoor smoking lounge and casino while you are playing are the only smoking areas.

i really have not encountered a lot of non compliance.  I’m just so glad they stopped blocking off the entire aft section for crew to smoke on the Grand class ships. That was the worst bit when we came back after the “Pause”.
