We both wore masks on a January cruise and my husband got it the last night and I didn’t get it. For us it was just cold like - no reason to be tested anymore since they don’t test people for other illnesses that are worse. High risk people probably shouldn’t cruise. We have 4 vaccines in us plus both have had it. There is no reason to quarantine people and I won’t go on any ship that requires one. People who are coughing and sneezing should have to wear one in public areas regardless of what the illness is. It’s just respectful.

That's how it is in Japan, and has been for years.

Reasonable enough, but if people refuse to quarantine when they are  ill,  they will

continue to infect innocent bystanders.  I have had my share of noro and “ship’s kennel cough” on past voyages as well.  After 20+ cruises,  I am done.  Bon voyage to you!

Just curious.  What are your guidelines for when people should quarantine?  What symptoms? For how long?

What steps should your "innocent bystanders" be taking?

This just in, there's covid on that cruise ship, that airplane, that train, that tour bus, that grocery store, that mall, that theater, that restaurant, etc etc., as well as the flu, the noro, the common cold, the streptococcus, the mersa, and the monkey pox.

Discuss.

This!

The pandemic is over, we now have colds, flu and Covid. I really don't see the point to even test anymore, if anyone feels really sick, they will stay in their cabin, if they don't, they won't.

You can catch Covid anywhere and whether you mask or not.

I have a cruise coming up in July and if I get it, I get it but I will not test and go to medical.

Covid, like RSV, Influenza, and Norovirus is still around.

Personally, I would wear a mask, KN-95 or above, especially if going on a longer cruise and in very crowded conditions.

So if you start running a fever of 104 degrees and are passing out you would not call medical ?

was on the transatlantic and British Isles cruise. Just like in the pre covid days the longer the cruise went on, the more coughing, sneezing, etc  went one . Some of it was probably covid since there were certainly some cases on board. When one boards a cruise ship you can expect covid and other URI viruses to be present to some degree.

As opposed to any other areas of the planet of Earth.  I would hide in Eden on the Celebrity Edge class, so I would be granted protection (being shielded from any illness).

Mostly they're vacationing in the south. Covid will be around. It will probably take the course of the 1918 Spanish Flu, continuing to spread but in diminishing in intensity of symptoms for another decade or two.

RSV, influenza and Noro, (Someone above alluded to bronchiolitis,) are at the low point of the year during the (northern hemisphere) summer. Those planning to cruise the southern hemisphere will see those peak in June and July. Incidence will increase in the northern latitudes in late fall.

If you're older than 2, you've already had RSV and it would present like a cold. Get a flu shot at least a month before you cruise. Give time to develop immunity.  Noro is transmitted by contact. Just wash your hands and don't touch your face.

I still see people walking around outside or alone in their car wearing a mask.  I always wonder what the science behind their decision is.

She Who Must Be Obeyed said it could be for warmth during the winter months, but when it's 80 degrees.

Going on a 16 day cruise to HI.  Gonna bring masks for tight spaces.  I have had 3 shots and Covid once (was no fun).  I had the flu a few months ago that was way worse than Covid.  My wife, while being exposed to a few with covid, never got it.  I am hoping that the ship does not get hit with any of those viruses.  The NORO virus scares me the most.

I have learned that most people are inconsiderate and selfish, and do not care if they infect someone else.  Going out into crowded spaces, no matter what you have, cold, flu, or whatever, is inconsiderate and selfish.  But its gonna happen.

When I go to Vegas or if I am somewhere where there is a lot of smoking, I wear a mask.  It does help, and kills some of the smell.  From what I have heard, the casinos on Princess ships have smoking areas, but it spreads out all over.  The masks will help.

How weird will it look if I wear rubber gloves all the time?  LOL

Yep...look weird because rubber gloves will do you absolutely no good...and they never did unless used properly by a medical professional.

Going on a 5 day to Cabo then a 16 day to Hawaii. I stuck a few dz surgical masks in the suitcase & 2 covid tests. Will self quarantine if positive but do not anticipate going to medical.

Well if I pass out I would call them after I came to. I had the flu once (anyway think it was the flu .... it was about 30 yrs ago) and that was rocky. But not bad enough to get the flu shot or pneumonia shot but had to get 3 covid shots to cruise. So I doubt I'd get a 104° fever but who knows?? Others with no co-morbidities have gotten sick

Transmission happens by touching an contaminated object, then touching your mouth or nose, whether wearing gloves or not. There is also a potential for developing a latex allergy by prolonged contact.

No elevators and we avoid the Piazza. On longer cruises it starts to sound like a TB ward down there. We haven’t gotten sick on any of the cruises we’ve been on since the restart.

I agree, at this point if we were sick we would simply self isolate. Unfortunately most are too selfish to do that.

That might explain the bronchial-like coughs we were increasingly hearing on our 33-day transpacific cruise that started in Sydney, Australia and winding up on Sunday in Vancouver.

Why would you think gloves help in any way

Friends who were on Princess last year were put in a special isolation wing of the ship.  Are they still doing that or do you stay in your own cabin now?  They also were reimbursed for their days in isolation.  Is that still the case?

We were on the Regal in Jan., DH developed mild symptoms, used one of our home tests, unfortunately +. Medical notified, tested again, another +. Fortunately I remained neg. They were going to move me to another cabin but ship was at 100%. He had to be isolated for 5 days but said I could leave cabin with mask on. Re: those little tables, we never got one and had to make lots of phone calls just to have piles of food dishes removed in red bags. Actually had to put some out on balcony there were so many. Nobody would take responsibility for removal. It seemed there was no protocol in place. Very frustrating. He did turn negative on day 5 which was the last full day of the cruise. We stayed busy all day.  We’re scheduled for CA Coastal in a few weeks, just a bit anxious about this! We try to stay prepared, fully boosted. And yes hubby was given OBC for the 5 days of isolation. And the travel insurance fully reimbursed us for expenses on board for medical.

Just reporting what I heard.  Spoke to a passenger on the Emerald.  She said she ran into a doctor.  Her question:  “Was there Covid on board the 7 day coastal.”

His reply: “None”…..at least none reported.”

The general consensus now is, you are in the exception to report and isolate. Most will just carry on as normal
