Good Morning from a very wet Zaandam. Thanks for today's daily fleet report.  Only two things on today's agenda,  lunch at the PG and a 5* event in the Mix.  We even were called to make sure we were going to the event.  I'm still working on using my CCL cash but that will disappear with lunch.

I hope everyone has a good day today.

Good cool sunny morning. Today will be spent getting plants for the cemetery memorial.
I’ve been to Gibraltar 1 time on the Nieuw Amsterdam crossing in April 2014. I did a tour up to the rock and saw the apes. I would love to go back there.
Blessings and prayers to all on our lists.

I looked for Sandi's @StLouisCruisers pictures from Gibraltar, but could not find them.  I went through the March 31, 2022, Daily three times to be sure, and evidently she did post her pictures.  This is what she did post about Gibraltar that day.

I can hardly believe it but today is the first time we have Gibraltar listed on the port of the day spreadsheet!  Seems like we had it already but nope!  Due to the types of cruises we've taken, we've stopped in Gibraltar at least 8 times.  That port has probably only been outnumbered by Rome (Civitavecchia)!  I think I'll wait and let you all post your favorite photos of Gibraltar.  Enjoy the hunt!

My guess is that she either decided not to post pictures since there we quite a few Dailyites who shared their pictures, or she forgot she had not posted any pictures.

@dfish  Debbie, I hope you had a restful as possible night and are released from the hospital today.

@Denise T  I hope today and tomorrow pass quickly for you, and that you have a great time on your cruise.

@GTVCRUISER  I'll happily celebrate National Wine Day, and I do almost every day.

@superoma  Eva, I hope yesterday wasn't too difficult and that you and the family found comfort yesterday.  Thank you for keeping the lists updated especially these last few days.

@Nickelpenny Just today and tomorrow to get through before you are retired.

Lenda

Thanks for our Thursday Daily, Rich.

Great collection of days.  Every missing child is sad and it would be so nice if they could all be reunited with their loved ones rather than the sad results we see at times. 😔 Always brown bagged it to work starting many years ago when I was single & realized how much eating lunch out was affecting my budget.

Love the quote by Babe Ruth 👍. I definitely like that 3rd recipe that Tina @0106 suggested. 👍. We had a great deal of fun in Gibraltar.  I used a private guide and talk about seeing a lot!  One of the highlights was driving across the airport runway.  Huh?  I wasn’t thrilled but he assured me it was worthwhile so I went with the flow.

OMG - their runway is a spot you need to cross to another road.  The lights come on when a plane is taking off.  He had timed so that the plane was taking off.  It was so close I nearly thought it would hit us and it flew right over our heads.  Amazing.

Ivan and I got some dead plants, shrubs uprooted yesterday and replaced them with new plantings I hope will take.  He was pretty tired after so he brought his toy in the house and…

Yup, the infamous dog owner who never let her dogs on the furniture can’t change a dog who likes to be up there with you.  He does sleep in his bed but if I’m on, he wants to be with me.

IMG_3597.thumb.jpeg.abced66c296d0b227fc8921fb3976190.jpeg

I definitely need to find a better cover for my couch.  Mine is just because I don’t like sitting on leather.  LOL.  And I don’t want him on my comfort quilt.  Thankfully it washes - he does not damage though.

IMG_3598.thumb.jpeg.0f5f0b7440a7090b3534942586c874c3.jpeg

Supposed to rain today so I’ll see what the day holds when I get back from the periodontist and the pet store for more food.  If it’s the gentle one, I might try to get some more stuff in.  We’ll see.

Debbie @dfish hope you got a relatively restful night and can head home 🤞

@GTVCRUISER yes on wine day 🙂

@Denise T you don’t have long to go now 😄

Prayers for everyone on the Care list & for those that need them and cheers 🥂 to those celebrating.

Morning. Slept until 7:00 AM so behind in posting. That will change next month when in Europe. We are excited because if all goes well we will visit Gibraltar next month. We have skirted around that port on many cruises. Today we received a wire transfer into our accounts as it will soon be time to make final payment on our World Cruise. That’s putting a dent in the Ski Fund aka ( Spending Kids Inheritance) fund!😱

I have held off long enough and today I’m going to get a haircut. Good thing as a few more days and I’ll be looking like an old Super Fab Beetle.

MeMe’s may be down next month as we travel and in place pictures but we’ll see how WiFI is operating. There is a port every day on these back to back’s with a couple overnights.

Need to get my walk in. So far have lost eight pounds and that is mainly due to no wine or Crown Royal, and exercise.

@dfish Debbie hope you’re doing well and that they will let you go home today.

Thanks for The Fleet Report and contributions. Bruce

A few of the photos of our time in Gibraltar, Octoberr 2019. The Barbary Macaques are very mean and tourists were warned to keep their distance. One thing that they enjoy doing is jumping on tourists' backpacks and tearing out the contents. Best to carry your backpack across your front chest.

Gorgeous flowers Jacqui!

@marshhawk Annie, thanks for posting how you managed!  Was thinking of you all!  You are such a good trooper, I’m not surprised but very relieved, and happy for you both that the trip was a grand success. And with stories to tell!

Thinking if you all but I really need to get out to the store, huge long list, and prep for company tomorrow…. lots to get done today.

Loved Gibraltar. The “caves” they dug out of the limestone for strategic war positions and safety are impressive, and seemingly endless!  Great views from the portals and cannon windows. I recommend them as a unique place to visit.

Blessing all!  M—

I have always brown-bagged most of the time when I worked in locations from which I couldn't go home for lunch. I had not planned to carry a towel today, but it seems that the Red Cross is going to give me a beach towel, which I don't need or want, at the blood drive. In November it was a frozen pie, which I didn't need or want, either; I gave it to a volunteer who was helping in the office.

I could envision making the meal suggestion, probably the portobello version since those mushrooms are readily available. BTW, button, cremini, and portobello mushrooms are all the same species, at different stages of growth. However, today I'd prefer Roy's alternative.

Yet another pseudotini. I'd like to try the wine if it were available and affordable. I haven't been to Gibraltar and won't be there this fall even though the route for the Spanish Farewell passes Gibraltar.

Dinner last night was strange and I don't recommend it: daikon soup, supposed to relieve bronchitis, and a vegan substitute for chicken salad made with jackfruit. The soup was bland but seemed to have some of the desired effect. Jackfruit is in no way a substitute for chicken--it resembles and has the texture, but not the flavor, of chunks of beef pot roast.

Tonight is the beginning of the Jewish festival of Shavuot. Originally it was a spring harvest festival (barley), but rabbinic tradition makes it the anniversary of receive the Torah at Sinai; the Scripture reading for it is the Ten Commandments. There is a custom to eat dairy foods, but that will apply to dinner tomorrow, since the holiday begins at sunset, well after dinner. Our community's main celebration, however, is tomorrow night, when I am teaching at a late-night study session (another custom), and Saturday.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I can't imagine the gut wrenching feeling of being a parent of a missing child, and there are far too many of them.  I brown bagged it most of my work life, and have never seen the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, but will honour Towel Day by washing ours.   And yes, it is Wine Day!!!

We had rain off and on yesterday and throughout the night, and it looks like we may still get more today - that is definitely going to help the farmers; I hope it is also raining in the forest fire areas because they certainly need it.  I'm really glad we had the fellow over last week to clean out the gutters, or I'm sure we'd have a real mess on our hands.

@Denise T I remember the excitement I had on my last work day before a cruise - it'll either go by really fast, or really slow.

@0106 I've heard that vegans won't eat "anything that has a parent."

@kazu your flowers are beautiful and your photography is so nice!

@dfish I hope you were able to get some rest last night and can go home today.

@superoma I'm glad to hear your day went well yesterday; they are never easy.

I think I'd like to try today's drink of the day; it looks like adult Kool-Aid!  We stopped at the port of Gibraltar on one of our trans-Altantic cruises, and we actually got to walk across the runway, which was really scary!

I was supposed to get my hair cut at 9:30 but I just received a text from my stylist who said she has to run to the medi clinic this morning as she may have a UTI.  We have rescheduled to lunch, but depending on how she feels we may have to postpone it to another day.  Because I have a birthday that falls on a holiday (Christmas Day), DH has given me an alternate date and that's May 25th because there's nothing really happening in our family in May. I'm going to be relieved of cooking dinner tonight, as DH will be taking me out somewhere to celebrate - I've already opened the pretty card he had waiting for me at the computer this morning.  So it looks like I'll be taking a pass on the menu suggestion and will choose something for someone else to cook for me at a restaurant table tonight.   And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

Good Thursday Morning Dailyites!  I wanted to post this before I forgot-When we were in Anchorage our tour guide told us that we would be able to see the Aurora Borealis for the next three nights, well his timing was off, or the instructions were off,.after sunset can mean different things in Alaska...And so the first night someone got up at 2 and saw them, took a picture, and that was it.  The next two nights we were socked in with fog, so it was a miss.  Then in Sitka? someone told us to watch for them around two.  Several of us set our alarms for 1:45, got up, and saw this instead.  (not our picture obviously, but pretty amazing!  ).

We have been to Gibraltar five times, and sailed past the rock at least twice.  Our first visit was in 2002 on Noordam III.  The other visits were on Prinsendam in 2008, 2016 and 2017, and our final time was on Veendam in 2019.

These pictures are from our 2002 visit.  In addition to going up on the rock, we also visited the Roman baths, but I couldn't find pictures of the baths.

Lenda, my Gibralter port visits also started with the Noordam III in 2003. Thanks for sharing your pics.

I returned in 2014 on the Rotterdam VI and then again on a ship still in the fleet (which is making me feel old as so many of my days were on ones that are not) just last year at this time on the Nieuw Statendam.  The  Bolette, our former Amsterdam, pulled up next to us as were there.

@ger_77  Gerry, Happy Birthday  celebration  day!

I just told my niece, Camillas' grandma,  about it and she loved the idea of a May or June celebration. Her birthday is the day before yours and as a kid she always felt it was too compressed  with Christmas.

Good mid day!

I am still in the hospital.  My surgeon has gone missing, it seems.  The nurse talked to him this am and he said he wanted to get me discharged this morning, but we've heard nothing since.

Surgery took longer than they expected because of the amount of scar tissue from previous surgery. But, the tumor is out and surgeon said it did not look suspicious. He sent it to pathology just to be sure. My biggest problem is the gas they pump into you.  That is causing most of the discomfort.

As for a restful night, who are we kidding?  This is a hospital.  They had those leg squeezers on me and they dinged each time the let go.  I'm right across from the nurses desk and something is always singing or ringing or squealing.  I did manage to sleep for a few hours after they administered pain medication.  I can't wait to get home.

Happy Birthday, @ger_77!
