cruiser944 Posted September 6, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Hi everyone, When using a diamond voucher for a drink in the MDR (same table and waiters each night, not My Time dining) do you tip the assistant waiter who brings it at the time he/she brings the drink or do you add it to the extra tip you give them at the end of the cruise? Just curious as to how others have handled this. Thanks!
TYMAN Posted September 6, 2023 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Although I still give extra at the end of the cruise, I tip each time someone brings me a drink. Whether D+ voucher or casino Prime, I always throw in a couple bucks. That's me, but I don't judge otherwise.
Rare island lady Posted September 6, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Same with us. We immediately tip a buck a drink, no matter if cocktail, beer, or wine...anywhere we order it (including the MDR/CK) to whomever serves us. We also tip some cash at the end of every meal.
mets123 Posted September 6, 2023 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2023 If the asst waiter does it, I tell him I'll take care of him the last night. If it's a bar server, I'll tip him when he gives me the drink.
Rare island lady Posted September 6, 2023 #5 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Sometimes your MDR staff changes. Ours did. I like to give them instant gratification. 😉
smokeybandit Posted September 6, 2023 #6 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Tip right away for drinks. Your assistant waiter (and main waiter) can change during the week for various reasons 3

jonthomas Posted September 6, 2023 #8 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Examples of out of control tipping. Only encourages low wages and passes it onto the consumer. Reign it in folks. 9

jonthomas Posted September 6, 2023 #10 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Proof that it is out of control when there is a question about what I mean. Pretty easy to understand. If it is the consumer that is subsidizing wages lines don't have to pay. Why would I encourage that.
Marie51 Posted September 7, 2023 #11 Share Posted September 7, 2023 I tip on the last night. I don’t want to stop eating to get money out of my purse, that’s awkward for me.

I appreciate good service.

They will be well taken care of then so I don't see a need to pull out a couple of bucks every time they bring me a drink.

Tromler Posted September 7, 2023 #19 Share Posted September 7, 2023 these threads....I cannot believe how much others shame another for not prescribing to their tipping beliefs time and time again. I honestly dont care what you tip on land or onboard. Its simply absurd.

This is the way I have always done it. Besides who wants to touch money when you’re eating… It’s full of germs. I am not a germaphobe but just think about all the hands that touch those bills. Monk86 Posted September 7, 2023 #22 Share Posted September 7, 2023 Dont tip. Already built into the drinks. If theyre diamond, thats a reward for spending many dollars on drinks in the past.
