Good morning all!

I think today will be our last day of summer-like weather (I think I've said that before) -- yesterday was downright hot!  Today slightly cooler, up to the mid 70's and then the rain comes tomorrow and down to the 60's and even 50's.

As usual I overdid yesterday, knowing our good weather is ending.  I thought I'd go check out what needed to be done in the backyard.  Before I knew it, I was down on my hands and knees ripping out the thousands of strawberry plants that have taken over the ground cover etc.  I love strawberries, but they were taking over everything, making my "walkable" ground cover worthless.  After a few hours (and pain) now the strawberries are confined to one raised bed.  I just need to keep them there.

I'm going to pass on everything except for Music Day.  We've been to Split twice, both on our long 2019 anniversary cruise on the NS.  Photos below.

Carol @mamaofami I'm sorry to hear that Sam has had a setback.  Prayers that the problems are resolved soon.

Bon Voyage @WannaSea and @Horizon chaser 1957!

Melisa @HAL Sailer Wonderful news that your DH is improving!

The first time in Split we walked for hours around Old Town.

We went to the Diocletian Palace

On our second visit to Split we took a tour to Omis and a canyon river boat ride.  The scenes were stunning and it was one of my favorite tours ever.

First a few scenes of the town

Omis2.thumb.jpg.9dd1645f167fa04c7833c93c0b121dbb.jpg

And of course this sweet kitty

Omiskitty1.thumb.jpg.ebc9b4bc6243fa8bc639221915381bd5.jpg

The photos don't do the river boat ride justice, the canyons were breathtaking.

At the start

We even saw a zipliner during the ride

And some kayakers enjoying the day

We have been in Split a good number of times , have toured the city and surrounding area always with our wonderful guide  and good friend Ante Batarelo . Last September while cruising on the Oosterdam in the Adriatic Ante suggested a day going through the mountains South of Split through the St Jure Tunnel to the impressive Biokovo Mountains to the Nature Parkland where they just finished building a new Skywalk with a glass floor about 1260 mtr above sea level to have a good view of the Islands Hvar and Brac . It was too bad it was a little bit cloudy.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

No tag for me, nor motorcycle riding. Music can add so much to life. Interesting quote. I'll pass on the meal and drink. Yes to the wine. I haven't been to Split. 2 important days in history. Praying for peace in all areas of conflict.

It's cold here. It started out in the mid-40's and is now up to 52F. It was 64 in my bedroom; I'm trying not to turn on the heat yet, and will use some small heaters as needed. I hate to whine (I know others have much more serious issues), but this morning wasn't fun. I had the usual leg pain, that seemed to take much longer to ease up. But my back! I think it's sacroiliitis and since I stopped ibuprofen it's bad again. So I popped ibuprofen and gingerly made my way downstairs. I meant to put on a patch, but forgot. Now that I've been sitting a while and the med is kicking in, I am feeling better. The arm that got the RSV shot is a bit sore, but not bad; no other symptoms from it.

@WannaSea @Horizon chaser 1957 Bon Voyage!

@StLouisCruisers Nice Split photos.

@cat shepard Thank you for your daily wine posts.

@summer slope Thank you for your daily drink posts.

@RMLincoln I'm sorry some of the retreat was tough for you, but I'm glad your friend was there to help. Good luck with picking a realtor.

@dfish Thanks for your daily recipe posts.

@mamaofami Sorry to hear that Sam was hospitalized again and I hope he gets to go to rehab tomorrow.

@ottahand7 I guess we'll be on opposite sides for the football game today, lol.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Great photos. Big difference in the crowds depending on the season.

@smitty34877 Prayers that the replacement oil tank is in tomorrow. Continued prayers for you, Tana and the family.

@cunnorl Enjoy your dinner belatedly celebrating DH's birthday.

@marshhawk That's not good that you have so much trouble with the doctor's office. And a sensor giving wrong information is worse than no readings at all. I'm glad you decided that you need to take some time for you; quality of life is important!

@rafinmd Nice sunrise. And thanks for the photos of your meals.

@Cruising-along @sailingdutchy  Lovely photos from Split and surrounding areas.

Prayers for the Care List and a Toast to those with something to Celebrate.

Happy thanksgiving!   I think we can use more than one.  DH had a Harley do that was fun. But we did get the looks

Prayers for Israel.  I can’t find the thread

@RMLincolnsorry you were so triggered. Group work can make things surface and good they had someone to be with you.  Hope things resolve

We have visited Split a couple of times so last time we went to Trogir which was highly recommended by my Croatian dentist.

Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for including me in the Daily bon voyage, and thanks to the Dailyites for a great sendoff. Your thoughtfulness is much appreciated. I hopped off Koningsdam after a nice goodbye to Alaska for the season, and with a short overnight in sunny Vancouver (thanks for the weather!) I'll hop on Eurodam shortly to make my way closer to home. Will have to catch up with everyone's current adventures in a bit, looking forward to it. I wish you all well and add my prayers for those in need.

@JazzyV Vanessa, I'm sorry to read about your pain issues.   I think I've been having sympathy pains for you lately.  Mine are in the upper thigh of the right leg.  I don't know if I pulled something or what.  Getting out of bed in the morning is a real ordeal as I am so stiff from being flat all night.  It is really painful.  I try to walk it off, but that is getting harder to do.  I've been cutting fabric for a new quilt, but can only cut for about 20 minutes and have to take a break as my back and neck start screaming.  Do you suppose we are just aging and trying to deny it?  I know I'm trying to deny it. I looked at the pictures of Split today and read about walking here, there, everywhere and I just can't do that anymore.  I think I'll have to be content with ship tours on a bus.

RNB, you and DH caught me.   Sorry about the repeat memes, but glad you were paying attention, which obviously I wasn't.   I realize that I didn't put yesterday's memes in the used file after I finished my post, and in a very senior moment this morning, I didn't remember they were from yesterday.

No worries, smiles (and laughs!) are always a good thing. 👍😉

Vanessa @JazzyV and Debbie @dfish I feel bad for both of you, pain is no fun at all.  It not only hurts, it can raise blood pressure and blood sugar too.  I hope both of you get some relief soon!

This afternoon I finished up in the backyard, for the first time I feel like the back gardens are ready for fall and winter.  I found a few strawberry plants I missed yesterday, and today tackled the grass coming up in the ground cover (grrr).  The good thing is that we don't have the leaves from the Cottonwoods behind us anymore, that's a big plus!

Youngest DGS (8) our little entrepreneur, grew some pumpkins in his aunt and uncle's garden and now he's selling them.  Well guess who bought the last, biggest one?  You got it.  What are we going to do with a 28 pound pumpkin?  😅

I'm back from the Abrahamic Path Walk. It only rained a little.

The meal suggestion doesn't sound very good to me, but I would probably like the drink (once, at least). Rack and return is fairly widely used, especially with Pinot Noir, but the only Finger Lakes winery that I know for sure uses it is Keuka Spring, for their Epic Reserve, which is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet. I haven't been to Split.

I think in my case, it is get used to it.  My problems all stem from my back.  I only have two discs that are not damaged or destroyed.  That goes from the neck down to the tailbone.  I have arthritis and scoliosis.  The stenosis is a problem when walking, but nerve ablation and using walking poles helps with that.  There is no surgery for my back as the damage is too extensive.  Pain medications are so so with it.  Even though it hurts, the best thing for me is to keep moving, so I do.  I don't do the 10 mile hikes anymore, but I can go around the block.  As much as my body doesn't want to do the hiking, my mind does!  That is the difficult part.

Good afternoon after a long day outside.  It was about 60F when I started the mowing, and I had to put on lightweight long pants and a t-shirt.  😒  However, at noon when I started on the other projects that had been neglected over the long hot summer, it was about 72F and sunny.  I switched to shorts and a tank top   That is my preferred yard work outfit.  It was a beautiful, pleasant day with a light breeze, and I enjoyed being able to be outside.

I got the iris trimmed back and the dead leaves cleaned up.  I also uprooted the ones that were almost hidden by the bushes.  The iris will be replanted in sunnier areas, especially areas where there are gaps between the iris.  Next was the killer project, trimming the seven low bushes by the house.  That chore always gets my back hurting.  This time I took two Advil and applied Aspercreme to my back before starting.  That helped some.  It had been too hot to trim the bushes since April, and they had really grown.  I also redistributed the mulch in the flowerbeds.  Once the iris are replanted, I'll add a bit more mulch.  I try to keep a gap between the grass and the front flowerbed, but over the years it has widened with the trimming.  I put down two bags of top soil in the area, and I hope the grass will spread there. The Silverado sage will be trimmed next week.

In the side yard, there are three cedar trees (which are nasty, trashy trees) that help shade our neighbors house.  Today, I got tired of a few low hanging branches hitting my head when I mowed.  Actually, they hit my hat and not my head.  Those branches were cut back and are now in the trash waiting to be picked up tomorrow.

I guess I'll work any kinks from today out tomorrow when I clean house.  Tonight, there will be a glass of red wine with dinner, and a second medicinal glass.  I'm taking the easy way out and reheating last night's meatloaf and scalloped potatoes along with broccoli for dinner.  Easy to do quickly in the microwave.

Carolyn, I understand wanting to work outside when the weather is nice.  I've tried to grow strawberries a couple of times.  They did pretty well and looked good, but the birds got the ripe ones before I could.  Thanks for your pictures from Split.  Now, I have ideas for more things to do the next time we're there.

Now that I've been sitting a while and the med is kicking in, I am feeling better. The arm that got the RSV shot is a bit sore, but not bad; no other symptoms from it.

@WannaSea @Horizon chaser 1957 Bon Voyage!

@StLouisCruisers Nice Split photos.

Vanessa, I'm sorry you are still having a lot of pain in your leg and back.  I hope you can get some relief soon, and I don't consider you are whining.  You are just reporting what is happening.  The difference in the crowds in Europe are unbelievable.  Generally, we've been there in late spring or in the fall.  In 2019, we were there in July and August, along with just about everybody else.

Debbie, I'm sorry you are also dealing with pain.  You might be on to something about age and denial.  My father's doctor called it "process aging": same thing, but sounds better.  😉

Carolyn, part of our yard is just about ready for winter, except I'll be mowing for a couple of more months.

Paul, I loved the meme about the duvets.  It also applies to fitted sheets.  😁

Debbie, I'm sorry there is no surgery to help with the back pain.  DH had stenosis and a bulging disc, but was lucky enough to get relief with the back surgery.  His pain was from the sciatic nerve being irritated.  Is there a possibility that steroid shots could help you?  I'm lucky that what pain I have, I can work through it or just keep going, so far.

Speaking of DH, he has been using the walker for safety since the last surgery, but said he tried walking a bit without the walker today and did all right.  Since we have tile floors, I think the walker is a good idea for a while longer.

It's time for wine.  👏 👍 🍷 🍷

It sounds like we've both been taking advantage of good weather.  I'm impressed with all you've gotten done. I felt bad ripping out the strawberries, but our yard just isn't big enough for them and everything else.  And yes, the birds get a lot before I do.  Enjoy that wine, I'm looking forward to having mine!

Steroid shots may help.  I was doing acupuncture before the pandemic and that was helping, but it all got shut down during the pandemic and we never started up again.  I have an appointment this week and I'm asking to be referred to the spine and pain clinic here in town. We'll take it from there.

The walker is probably a good idea for a while longer.  I know when I had both knee replacements I didn't use the walker at home, just a cane.  My house was too small for the walker and it really just got in the way.

The epidural steroid shots I got last Monday relieved my pain for about a day....I'm really disappointed.  Going to start PT tomorrow & have a follow-up with the pain Dr's PA next Monday.  The worst part of my issue is the spasms...I walk our dog .7 mile every day & walking doesn't seem to aggravate it but it's the getting up/down/in & out of the car that kills me.

The car issue is why I got rid of the sedan and got the SUV.  It is so much easier.

The spine and pain clinic may be the ansewer.  DH opted not to go there.  He learned they can implant a device similar to a tens unit that could help.  First they would have tested an external device.  Because his problem was a very irritated sciatic nerve he needed the lamenectomy to clean out the stenosis.

DH had bilateral epidural shots twice and a steroid shot into the middle of the spine.  They only lasted a short time if at all. As I mentioned to Debbie @dfish, his problem was the stenosis irritating the sciatic nerve.  I hope you can get some relief.

Carolyn, yes we were both taking advantage of good weather.  The difference you were enjoying one of the last summer days, while I was enjoying the end of our summer heat.  It is amazing how a few degrees in latitude can make.

With that huge pumpkin, you could clean it out, make a lot of pies, and one big, scary Jack a Lantern.

@dfishI feel your pain, in more ways than one. Epidural spinal injections did help but it took a bit of time. And I’ve been working on a quilt that my daughter wanted. It’s driving me nuts-not only do the colors form a diagonal “V” that meets in the middle from each corner but the bottom 1/2 has to mirror the top 1/2. And now my knee hurts from all the back and forth. Yep, getting old.
