Silversea versus Regent

Sorry - there have been so many complaints I assumed it was SS wide.  Anyone know why just on Nova?  Maybe the thin end of the wedge, an experiment to see how many take it up.  As many people have lots of OBC, it is certainly one way of spending some.

Silversea says that on the Nova La Dame has higher end ingredients and better included wines. Reviews so far haven't consistently backed that up. We're on the Nova in January and plan to give it a try. We haven't been to La Dame on the other ships in years (unless a complimentary dinner was included in our suite category) as we felt the ingredients and wine were no better than those available in Atlantide.

We ate twice in La Dame on the Nova in August and are boarding again this Saturday. From our perspective, the menu was very similar to the Moon and Dawn and I only saw two differences on the Nova. The caviar in La Dame was Osetra vs. a cheaper version on the rest of the ship and the wine was only a LITTLE better than the house wines on the rest of the ship. La Dame and Chef's Table are a great place to use up Ship Board Credits. Hard to justify the price increase except I will order 2 servings of Caviar!!

I am sad to say, again my opinion, Regent has lost its way since it reopened and their new CEO Andrea appears lost at sea about the decline and chorus of customer complaints.

This sums up my opinion of regent after the past two cruises with them.  Nailed it.  and it goes past Andrea the whole senior staff on land and onboard seem lost as well.

@tulok  what ships are you comparing between RSSC and SS??

we are just completing Quebec to Fort Lauderdale on SS Shadow.

a couple points.  Do not do this late in the season.  Weather is very cold and many of the port stores are closed as it is end of season.

We are not a fan of the small Shadow ship. Quirky layout and stay away from Deck 8 and 9 suites. No through way from the cabin to the rest of ship. You must go outside in the cold and rain to cross from Forward to Aft.

Food on Regent was definitely better than SS.  Menus on SS lacked creativity.  When in Maine and Halifax would have expected to see some fresh fish and crustaceans.  Not to be only lobster was a frozen tail.

our biggest issue concerned the coffee. The barrister machine in the Atrium was broken for at least 3 weeks. With this broken machine, the only alternative was a self service machine, which provided the most vile coffee.

Management had plenty of opportunity to fly in someone to fix the machine. But HQ refused to do it.  Maybe it gets in FLL.

Saw the silver shadow in October when we were in Halifax on Explora Journeys thanks for your posts as always

Sorry, but that's just a bit silly.

Use the forward stairs or elevator down to deck 7 or below, then walk aft indoors.

Hardly difficult.

@PaulMCO Excellent information thank you. We are traveling in June.

@Waltershipman We have only been on Voyager, twice. We enjoyed the ship. Shadow is the one we are looking at. I had it on a 7 day hold and let it go to make sure this is the itinerary we want. We usually go to Europe and was thinking South American route this year but we may need to be closer to home by flight.

not silly if you need to use a cane and have limited mobility.

Sorry, but I still beg to differ.

Your statement is just not accurate - "No through way from the cabin to the rest of ship. You must go outside in the cold and rain to cross from Forward to Aft."

If you are in a cabin on deck 8 and want to go to, for example, La Terrazza on deck 7, you can take the forward elevator down to deck 7 and walk aft indoors to the restaurant.

This is exactly the same distance as walking across the pool deck and taking the aft elevator down to deck 7.

And it is the most logical way to get from deck 9 cabins as the aft elevators do not service deck 9. And it's the only way up to the Observation Room.

Or perhaps did you somehow miss the fact there there was a forward elevator? And stairs? Opposite cabins 833 and 933.

Wherever you are going on the ship, the horizontal distances are the same, the only choice is whether to move vertically by the forward or aft elevators (or stairs).

And it's not like the horizontal distances are endless on such a small ship, even with limited mobility.

We know there is a SINGLE forward elevator.  But it was heavily used compare to the FOUR at mid ships.  During heavy sea states that forward elevator was shutdown.
