Morning! It’s that day…like you didn’t know! 😂

Thank you for the pics and thoughts on the Centric, just confirmed we made the right decision. 👏

While on board would you take some pics of the Sunset Bar area? Also provide thoughts on it. We spend a lot of time there.

What was the cab cost to the Centric? Thinking Uber Vs Cab. Normally take a cab.

Will be watching the sail away on the web cam. 👀

Cheers!

The sunset bar is on our list of first places to visit upon embarking so will check it out and give a full report.

Our cab fare was $25 including tip. Was going to be $22 plus tip for UBER. Though I’ve had pretty good luck with Uber in the past, if was easier and less hassle to get a cab. Will do this next time we fly to FLL. The pick up zone for ride share was nuts. Maybe why our guy didn’t show, idk.

We've had good luck with Lyft and Uber at FLL.  Like @Jim_Iain I'll compare Lyft and Uber pricing and wait time and choose which fits best.   We find using Lyft/Uber better from the hotel to the ship as you have no idea what traffic delays you'll encounter at the port and with a taxi the meter just keeps on clicking.

I agree that the pick up zone looks chaotic but it's really not that bad as long as you understand the method to the madness, most drivers we have had actually went to the numbered area that the app said to meet at which made it rather easy,

cabs are plentiful  in Ft Lauderdale and fares are zone controlled. We do not use Lyft or Uber!

Also many Sports Bars...where are you staying post cruise? .  There are a few along 17th..and we like Quarterdeck at several.locations ( not sure if its  sports bar per se)

BON VOYAGE!

Always use Uber from hotel to ship. A lot easier. Only thing is you want to have a driver that has been to the port. One time we had a driver who had never driven to the port and the guard at the gate had to educate him how to find the information she needed on his phone. Not a big deal, but was hoping he had what she needed. 🤞🏻

Cheers!

in Fl and LA I actually had to help folks call their driver with directions to the port.. and in Spanish no less!  All drivers are not equal.

(My son in law does it part time...mostly for local airport surge..or special promos for drivers)

Whatever works!

Great point. We also ran into that one time but fortunately I was able to give the driver directions.  One of the benefits of frequently cruising out of FLL is knowing where the signs are and being able to direct the driver!

The only time I have had an issue was when the ship returned to terminal 29.  Had two different drivers cancel on me before the third one showed up.  Fortunately, the non-stop flight from FLL to IAD is at 1 PM so we are never in a hurry to get off the ship or to the airport.  United will not permit bags to be checked earlier than 4 hours prior to flight's scheduled departure so getting there before 0900 is a non-starter, although it has happened.

I just assumed by the name that The Sunset Bar had evening hours. Love to know if it's open earlier. This looks like a good hangout for us. Please report back on bar service as well. Someone who just got off Beyond said they didn't have good bar service.

If you dine in the Normandie restaurant and meet sommelier Windy, please tell her mom and papa can’t wait to see her. Unfortunately, the Martini Bar star that is  in all Celebrity advertisements, Rendy, is leaving the Ascent today and headed to the Edge. ☹️

I hope you have a great cruise!  I don't think I've ever anticipated a cruise review this much.  I've got ants in my pants waiting for the pictures.

I’ll see your “ants in pants” and raise you “butterflies in stomach”. Heading to the port now.

Wait…that didn’t sound right, did it? 😂🤣

I believe so.  But call to ask- may have special rooms.  The ship cabins have carpeting- not only in cabins, but in most public spaces.  How do you handle?

I stay on the newer ships with a balcony and bring my meds.  That seems to work quite well for me, but not perfect, although nothing is 100%.

We always get to Sunset Bar around 11AM for mimosas. Open into the night. Openings can vary based on ship schedule. They sometimes have solo or duets perform late afternoon. DJ can show up during the day also or night.

Cheers!

@lhsail does this mean Rendy does training?  I've always assumed that is what goes on during the TAs without passengers before the press and revenue cruises, and obviously periodically as new crew join.  One Disney DCL doc on streaming had the crew putting down carpet and other decor leading up to the new ship arriving in Florida (about a year ago), and Chris Wong, a casino host, on YouTube showed his Royal Caribbean crew colleagues installing and removing items on a ship during the dry dock.

I would guess with his experience he does help with training. There is a lot of set up, stocking, etc. that is done by the crew on a new ship. He was initially assigned to the Ascent some time ago, so I have to believe his reassignment is due to a staffing need on the Edge. We were on five cruises on the Summit with him post Covid and were really looking forward to seeing him again.

We will be on the Dec 10 sailing. If your daughter needs anything, send me a message on FB messenger so I get it. We are driving in so can pu what she needs! Would be happy to do so.

Thanks for the response.  We heard on the thread about the Edge there could be some need for more staff, and so on.  Nice to hear they do work on these issues, and use their superstars.  @Georgia_Peaches I hope you're enjoying the new ship smell.  Sorry for the sidebar.  Looking forward to your report, and observations ... Not only is this the actual maiden cruise with passengers, but also a Thanksgiving cruise, and your vacation.  Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much. She is not really our daughter, but a daughter in heart.
