OK, now for the really dumb question...  how do you know if you've won anything?

It will tell you on the door panel; you can also look it up in the app and on your account.

On the Sapphire Dec & Jan  I won a free international wine tasting (really? I get all the wine I want with premier) and $25.  Adam won $250. Way better!  They phoned my cabin to let me know where/when for the wine tasting. The money shows up on your journey view account as non refundable OBC.  I check my account at least once a day.  You can also look at Prizes in the ap and it will show up there.

It only enters every five minutes, and you don't get an entry for every open/close. Some are "sorry, try again", some get you an entry.

There is and it is maybe even predetermined and not affected at all by your door being opened.  We won only early on when it was first introduced and nothing in our last dozen + cruises.

Hi -

We actually WON a free 7 day cruise!  On our Hawaii trip last summer, we paid the $10 per day (total fee for both of us) to play prizes. Then, "try again later" every time until we got to Hawaii, and the whole time there the casino and the game were closed.  Our odds were not good for those $10 days!

While at sea on the return trip, I opened the door at least every 20 minutes (I had hear that was the waiting period between tries) and swiped the medallion.  I noticed that I got the "sorry" message sooner than 20 minutes, so the Cruise Critic chatter that the wait was 5 minutes may be correct now.

So after dozens and dozens of tries, I hit the free cruise prize. Later that morning, when coming out of the theater bathroom, a ship's officer approached me in the hall and asked if I was Donald.  FREAKED me OUT!  I figured that I had done something.  He congratulated me on the prize - apparently I was ratted out by the medallion.

I got a tax form to fill out and turn in along with a form to complete and instruction sheet. I got to select from several 7 day trips.  I got my second choice.  (Princess has a separate cruise prize department) The cruise cost $1445 out of pocket for the Plus package, taxes and fees and vacation protection which were not included.  As I recall, I could have paid for an upgrade to a mini suite also if I wanted.

Life changing? no, but kind of fun. I have the premier package on the next trip, so I probably will be seen peeking out my cabin door at all hours in my skivvies to endlessly swipe the medallion.  Since Princess said they award one free cruise per trip, the more you swipe, the better your chances - or you could just enjoy the current trip.

FYI I had to separately request my military OBC, and wife got the Shareholder OBC, so that worked out well.

I'm confused. I'm sure it used to be $20 per day to add on Prizes and I "thought" it was only good for one person in the cabin. Now I'm reading that you both had the chance to win for a total cost of $10 per day. Things must have changed somewhere along the line and I just missed it.

Our last three cruises, there was nothing about Princess Prizes on our door panel.  I wonder if I should have mentioned it to Guest Services.  Maybe they didn’t have us listed as being part of the program.

I noticed that, too but they simply changed the door panel.  There’s a small P up in the right corner of the screen if you are enrolled in the prizes.

PS .. there’s a place in the new app to inform you of any winnings.

What’s stopping you from standing an hour, two, or more, just opening and closing your cabin door, for multiple entry into the prizes draw?

I could give up a half an hour opening and closing my door for getting free "mediocre wifi if standing in laundry room in the northwest corner".

It still shows online that it is only good for one person in the cabin so how can they show that everyone gets it that purchases Princess Premier?

There's no way how many times you open your door affects your chances of winning.

I guarantee they have a set number of drawings per day and that opening the door is just one way for them to notify you that you've won.   No different than any other raffle where tickets are sold and winners are drawn for each available prize.

I am pretty sure you are correct.

I hope so. Nothing like hearing hundreds of doors opening and closing. For some of those prizes I would be partaking also.

Thanks, Cruise Raider.  I’ll make sure the “P” is on the door pad in March.😀

Someone clouded me in on it as well, which is how I knew.
I really never knew if it was doing anything, though.  Maybe if I’d won something, I’d know that it was working.

OK, so my friend and I are rooming together in the room, and have separate accounts. If there is a prize, does the prize go to the one that recognized our medallion first? I know if we went in "individually", it would just recognized just one of us, right? Someone also mentioned about looking for a P on the door, what is that in reference to?

The prize will show up on your app.  As stated, it’s probably predetermined and not really associated with you actually opening your door .. but on the possible chance that it is, you can just take turns being the first one to walk up to your door.
You can work out ahead of time how it will be shared if you win.  That may be the best way to handle it.

As for the P on the screen, it is there to indicate if you are enrolled in the Princess prizes contest.

LOL, we had some young adults (four or five from a family group with multiple cabins) do just that every single sea day on a cruise last year.  Entries are limited to once every 5-10 minutes (forget exactly how many).  They did win some prizes in the big giveaway in the Piazza, and presumably some at the door as well, but it wouldn't be worth it to me to spend 75% of my vacation hanging out in the ship hallway on my phone.
