CDRonboard Posted March 23 #1 Share Posted March 23 Last time we sailed on a Celebrity ship was March 2023 on Soltice doing a B2B for 14 days . Ex-Airbalancer Posted March 23 #3 Share Posted March 23 Last fall the cruise were very cheap and sailing 1/2 filled Celebrity didn’t make money , not worth the effect to keep a ship in California 1
Rare NutsAboutGolf Posted March 23 #4 Share Posted March 23 Lack of demand, they often became the only comped cruise low-rolling gamblers would get and would routinely offer last minute "fire sales" to fill cabins. Same with ships out of PR
Rare foodsvcmgr Posted March 23 #5 Share Posted March 23 Several ports in California are legislating against cruise visits. Most of last years Eclipse sailings out of CA were selling at $400 base fare for 7 days. Most other departure ports can command significantly higher fares. I’m sure these were some of the factors Celebrity considered. 2
Rare NMTraveller Posted March 23 #6 Share Posted March 23 Lack of demand. Several of the places in Mexico are Level 4 on the State Department list. The Celebrity cruises they do have are very inexpensive. Not a money maker so they don't sail there...

jelayne Posted March 23 #8 Share Posted March 23 We when on 1 of the Solstice Mexican Riveria sailing. Very inexpensive and the ship was nowhere near full. Not a money maker or they would have continued with them.
Ex-Airbalancer Posted March 23 #9 Share Posted March 23 Maybe Celebrity needs to do a 3 day cruise to a private beach in Mexico with a pharmacy to attract customers 😁🤣😉 5
Arizona Wildcat Posted March 23 #10 Share Posted March 23 1 hour ago, NutsAboutGolf said: But not L.A./San Pedro/Long Beach or San Deigo OK. I love to cruise the US West Coast, but cruise to where? Mexico, always love a port where the local police carry machine guns and the US travel warning means I have no insurance coverage California, San Diego great as a port. Catalina Island is OK. SFO great. But Monterrey and Santa Barbara are shut. Whales require slow cruising speeds so the 14 day RT to Alaska doesn't work any more. And the short 4 day cruises are not our style. 1

We were on the 8 Night Pacific Coastal Eclipse Cruise in 8 October 2023 and only Mexico port was Ensenada. We enjoyed that port.

California cruises are mostly for FUN ships and Booze cruisers who don't care if it goes to Mexico as long as they can Party.

We've done a lot of Celebrity, RC and Holland cruises out of San Diego and San Pedro (7 plus nights) that go south into Mexico and never have been booze cruises. SbbquilterUT Posted March 23 #15 Share Posted March 23 We were happy to sail Solstice last year when she could not sail the Australia season so she came up to LA, waiting to go up to Alaska for the summer - not terribly exciting ports but a great way to spend two weeks in January. This year we did Navigator of the Seas - not a favorite but we took her as an inexpensive winter get away and enjoyed ourselves.
kruzerci Posted March 23 #16 Share Posted March 23 Because we sailed in a balcony b2b on Eclipse in October for $499+taxes per week. No casino discount. They were struggling to give Solstice and then Eclipse sailings away
JLMcruise Posted March 24 #17 Share Posted March 24 I wish they would do a LA- Cabo - Hawaii - I would do B2B2B2B. We love the longer cruises!
Rare cruisestitch Posted March 24 #18 Share Posted March 24 That would violate PVSA unless the ship would return to LA.

Otherwise it's a domestic cruise. Separate issue from the PVSA but they tend to get lumped together.
