Rare OrtonPark Posted March 24 #1 Share Posted March 24 When we booked our September cruise, I was asked on the booking form if there was any special occasion we’d be celebrating. As it happens, our anniversary is on the second night of the cruise. It’s not a “milestone” anniversary- just our 14th. Looking at similar itineraries, it is likely to be chic night that evening. I’m wondering if anyone knows if we will get a special treat or something similar (I don’t expect one) to mark the occasion at Luminae or if we should book a specialty restaurant. I don’t mean to come across as feeling entitled to something extra; just wondering what to expect.

We received decorations on our stateroom door and inside the cabin with a signed card and a small treat when we returned to our stateroom. We laughed about it because we forgot all about it as we booked the cruise 20 months before the sail date.

miched Posted March 24 #4 Share Posted March 24 The servers and staff will gather around and sing Happy Anniversary. You may get a cake with a sparkler on it. I think you have to let them know as I don’t think it is passed on from the form you fill out. We don’t let them know as we don’t like the attention, or disrupting the dining area. The butler or attendant may decorate your bed with rose pedals and a towel figure if you designate you are celebrating something. Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅 2
jelayne Posted March 24 #5 Share Posted March 24 the only time there was any decoration in our cabin for a anniversary was the time DH had put a Happy Anniversary Card on the vanity. And the cabin attendant added some decorations and a bottle sparkling wine. We gave up noting birthdays or anniversaries on the reservation as that never seemed to get even a cake. If you want your celebration recognized it is best to tell them on the ship. 2
CruiseCrew123 Posted March 24 #6 Share Posted March 24 Don’t expect anything as most people on a cruise will say they are celebrating something . Our friends were on their honeymoon and this wasn’t recognised . You can buy a celebration package if you want to mark the occasion

I got talking to one of the group who explained they just liked to dress up and so dressed formally on every night. Then to make things extra special they just invented anniversaries to get the cake and the waiters singing.

Back in 1973 we were at Disney World. It was our 7th anniversary. We were at the Golf Resort for Brunch and had our 2 children with us. One as wearing a shirt that had Downriver AYSO Soccor on it. There were 4 females at another table. They said that we must be from Michigan as they were at one time from a city in “Downriver”. We started talking and they said that we really seemed to enjoy each other’s company. We said it was our 7th anniversary and we were celebrating with the Champaign Brunch. They thought it was amazing that we were married 7 years. They were all divorced after 2 to 4 years. We also thought it was great that we got past that 7 year itch. It seemed like a long time at that time. Not that it was a big chore or struggle to be married, or stayed married. It was just the time factor. Now it has been so many it is getting to be old stuff. Pushing 60 years. Pretty soon we can apply for SS and Medicare again based on that time span. 🤷♂️. When they ask the audience how long they have been married we never respond. Don’t see any purpose. It is like the person that sailed the most. Let them have the glory for what it is worth. I also want to know how old you have to be when you now become young? 🙄 Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

Mr. Click Posted March 25 #13 Share Posted March 25 On an Alaska cruise we got not one but two cakes for her birthday...of course her birthday was the week after the cruise......so no idea how the staff knew. Oh, we gave the second cake to the family in the cabin next door since the DR staff delivered that one to our cabin. Their kids enjoyed it.

I had POA for 2 friends who died aged 99 and 97 within 5 weeks of each other having celebrated their 74th Wedding Anniversary and not a single cruise. Rare chemmo Posted March 25 #16 Share Posted March 25 We have found the response mixed. On some cruises we have been given a cake, on others a decorated cake slice…Only on one occasion (our son’s birthday) was our room decorated. If you want it celebrating definitely let the M’D know beforehand and on the actual evening.
the penguins Posted March 25 #17 Share Posted March 25 7 hours ago, OrtonPark said: Yikes! Some people’s children … they caused no problems to anyone else and they certainly turned heads as the 8 of them arrived in the restaurant in full evening dress (men in tux's, the ladies in a variety of dresses) every night. They also added a touch of glamour in the Casino on most evenings.
chocolabmom Posted March 25 #18 Share Posted March 25 We were on Apex two years ago in a Sunset Veranda I had put a Happy Anniversary banner in our room. Our stateroom attendant asked about it and we told him it was our anniversary. When we returned from dinner that evening we had a bottle of champagne, a chocolate cake and a towel swan and rose petals on the bed. It was lovely.
Marie51 Posted March 25 #19 Share Posted March 25 I wondered about this myself. My son and daughter-in-law will be on a cruise for their honeymoon which was noted on their reservation, but I wondered if there would be anything special done for them?

George C Posted March 25 #22 Share Posted March 25 On my wife’s 60th birthday the whole concierge staff brought her flowers and a bottle of wine and sang happy birthday, but we were in the penthouse, this was a couple of years ago.

Towel animals are something any room steward is free to do at any time. On our last Silhouette cruise our Steward made us several just because he liked doing it and with only 800 passengers he had a much lighter work load than usual.
