As soon as Carnival calculates an acceptable rake, LRC will return as a cruise director-led activity like Deal or No Deal.

I bet you're right!!

The solution is to play with chips, and then payoff the winner discreetly after the game. For those that have never played,  it's a winner takes all game. 😎

And, don't play during prime eating times!!! 😎

No, it was an inartfully chosen phrase; not a 'lie'. 🙄

No, it was an artfully chosen phrase just like "Due to state laws, we cannot sell CHEERS! until the second day of the cruise".

It's untrue, they know it's untrue - but it makes good PR.

Don't know what the game is but would agree, keep a tally on paper and do the payout discreetly.

sure he did, it was a response to a comment that said they only play for quarters. its in plain english, so dont call me a liar.

You asked why the game was banned. The game itself was not banned at all, It was the fact that there was an exchange of money and betting. You can play the game anytime you want on the ship anywhere you want.

A direct quote from John Heald:

“This is because gambling outside of the casino is strictly forbidden aboard any of our ships.”

So yes, it IS what he said... and yes, it was a lie.

That is correct. Gambling is forbidden outside of the casino. If you play for money, you can't play any games outside of the casino. The game itself is not banned. It is the exchange of money that is forbidden.

When did I do that. I said John Heald said that if it was only for quarters then he would not have reported it. Last time I checked quarters was money

No, it isn't.

Bingo is gambling.

Carnival runs Bingo outside the casino.

Bingo is run by the Casino department even though it isn't in a room that says Casino over the door.  And don't say it's run by the cruise director because although they my be moderating the game and calling the numbers, the casino department is still in charge of the game.

People are just really looking for things to get indignant about.  There are always groups of people playing games on the Lido deck during non-busy hours. Sometimes they sit there playing through lunch time or dinner time too.  What's the big deal?  That is no more rude than 1 or 2 people sitting at a table for 6 and that happens all the time.  Lighten up and just enjoy your cruises. Even at the busiest time on Lido, there is a place to sit somewhere if you wander around long enough.

Why are people frothing at the mouth about HYPOTHETICAL situations where someone with a "reserved" sign could potentially stand near their reserved table and wait or start a confrontation?   Do you guys these threads just to look for something imaginary that hasn't happened- just to raise your blood pressure?

I had never heard of this game until someone on our roll call brought it up and organized it. Sounded like a fun game but we didn't get to go (so don't know if it happened or not on our Panorama cruise 2 weeks ago).

The semantics of Casino versus Casino operations or Money versus large sums of money is immaterial. Some things from this story that are a little puzzling, like who told what to who. JH says it is his job to tell the ship crew, which is fair enough. But then some are saying another passenger complained. I guess maybe the Karen in question complained online to JH instead of either going to nearby crew or even (shudder) interacting with fellow passengers and just asking if they could make room.

JH is quoted in this thread (I assume from social media) saying that he wouldn't have reported quarters, but another poster here reports being shut down by security for the same stakes (I think on a different line). So, is it just reporting that is his job or is it evaluating the money involved before reporting that is his job? I get the loss of money angle, just say this is because if you are going to lose money it should be losing to them not to other passengers.

I am probably reading too much into this but what other violations that he sees in pictures is he bound to report? Kids in the hot tubs? Chair Hogs? The once popular rum runners? I don't ever remember seeing about someone getting in trouble for another violation via this route, but maybe someone has. Either way, it wouldn't be CC if we didn't make long threads out of speculation.

On several Journeys cruises we were part of the LCR crowd which numbered around 35 people.

I hope that you and patty are having fun on the Vista.  Enjoy your turnaround day tomarrow, and have another Great Cruise. Looking forward to the epic review.

Because it would have been difficult to flash fistfuls of quarters over social media

When we have our weekly poker games,  that is exactly how we play.  You buy into the game, get your chips and claim your money or losses at the end of the game.  I have rarely seen anyone play any card game with actual cash.
