IT's cruise day.  What a JOYFUL day!!!  The Happy Hour at the Golden Lyon as well as the Boathouse can not be beat!  We love the Riverside and surrounding area.

We also love the Riverside Hotel.  Our most recent stay was last month after coming back from an Oceania cruise.  We did not realize that it was St. Patrick's Day weekend.   What a mess the Las Olas Boulevard was!  We ended up getting out of the area by taking an Uber over to our favorite place to eat in Ft. Lauderdale, The Southport Raw Bar & Grill.  Had a relaxing lunch of clam chowder and fried shrimp on the water.  Afterward, we took the water taxi loop back to the Las Olas for some post St. Patrick's parade fun.  We dined at The Cheesecake Factory for dinner, as the Golden Lyon was packed full of partiers.

Happy and SAFE sailing, Jacqui!!!

@kazu

In the interest of being thorough, we stopped by the Boathouse restaurant behind the Riverside. They do a similar happy hour to the one at the Golden Lyon. No spinach and artichoke dip, nor the really good homemade tortilla chips. The overall menu is similar, and probably a little more extensive.

It's a quieter location on the New River behind the hotel. You'll miss out on the people-watching on Las Olas though.

The major finding is that the drinks were quite a bit more generous. (To make sure that the first one was not a fluke, we repeated the experiment a few times.)

@POA1 Where did you get that picture from? Watching the port cam doesn't show the ship.

From our balcony. We live in the condos you sail by when you leave Port Everglades.

Nice!!  Get to watch a lot of ships come and go.  Must be quieter in the summer.

Thanks for the info.

Now THAT’S where I want to live next! 🥰

We actually decided to look down here after we took our first cruise out of Fort Lauderdale on the Ryndam in 1999. It took a few years of saving our pennies, but we bought in 2007.

Interesting listening to the chatter; one of the ships has had the police there, and security is removing the luggage "and the female guest".  Yikes!!!  Not sure which ship, but it certainly sounds serious.
