The Fleet Report and Daily for Wednesday May 15th, 2024

Recommended Posts

Good morning everyone!  Thanks for the Daily and maps Rich and Roy.   Families should be celebrated and it was so good to spend time with mine on Monday for my DS birthday.  Kangaroo Care is a good way to start my day, we just booked Grand Australia for 2026 and I will be able to see Kangaroos away from a zoo.   No idea what MPS is.  Quote is meh.  1869 is an important date for women's right to vote, yikes they had to work a long time to get suffrage for women.  Thanks for the photos of today's port.

@57redbird I hope all goes great with your dental extraction today.  @marshhawk prayers for Chuck and I am happy you read his discharge orders and have an appointment soon.  @Nickelpenny I hope you are feeling better today and getting closer to sitting up and getting out of bed.   @RMLincoln prayers for healing for Richard's eye incision.  Jacqui @kazu prayers the antibiotics are working for your foot pain.   Prayers for Tana and everyone else in our group who need them and all in war zones through no fault of their own, Ukraine, the hostages and the innocents in Gaza.

A busy day for me in preparation for leaving for the cabin on Sunday.   I have a hair appointment and then a visit to my stock broker to review my portfolio and ask him to develop a RMD withdrawal plan for my 401K to get the most money out without bumping me up two tax brackets. In between those appointments I will hit a grocery store and the bird feed store and even before all that begins go to the Post Office and sign up and pay for mail forwarding to our cabin PO Box.  Have a lovely hump day!  Nancy

@cat shepard, Ann, I am sorry that you and Bindi were huddled in the closet but glad you are safe. Tornadoes terrify me. How are things with your sister?

Thanks Terry. My Sister has been discharged from all but PT. She has two weeks left of that. But her knees are still an issue. Hoping there is a more permanent solution than cortisone injections. She is much more active, and is no longer relying on Brayden for things she can do herself. That in itself is a huge change.

First off, gentle hugs to Annie, Chuck, Pennie, Vanessa!  Crisis time is when I have to get myself grounded in gratitude by remembering “What’s good right now?”  It doesn’t make the bad stuff go away but it helps me deal better.  Hoping for better news today. Praying for Amazing!

Here we are keeping up the regime. It takes some extra planning but if we can keep the new drainage open enough to keep flowing maybe we can salvage some benefit from the surgery.

Athens and Piraeus have so much to offer!  I wish the ships did more overnights there.

Ann, thanks for the update on your sister, glad she’s doing better!

Terry, good that the AC is helping Tana!  Maybe the rain helps too.
Debbie, I hope you can carve out a helpful path!

Blessings all trying to get through the day.

Vanessa, seeing us on the shout out list does my heart good!  We are hanging in there!  One day at a time is everything!
Thanks to you all for your caring support!  Maureen

Happy Hump Day everyone and thanks to Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie & Ann.

Sorry I haven’t been posting but I don’t have a lot of good things to say.  The drugs and pain and effort to walk make me very tired and it is hard for me to keep up with the Daily.  I’m on my last day of antibiotics and while there has been some improvement I can barely stand to put my foot in the softest shoe I own.  My foot nurse has given me a merino wool thing that makes it easier to walk on my hardwood floors and helps protect the foot.

X-Ray was done on Thursday and so far, I haven’t heard anything.  It was marked urgent by my FP so hopefully soon on the bone infection or what they see?   I have an appointment with the vascular surgeon next Tuesday.  Should be fun trying to drive there if the foot hasn’t improved.

I can’t walk Ivan obviously - but he is getting walked daily.  Ca-Ching - $$$$.  here he is motoring let full out (probably so she could get the pic).

IMG_2389.thumb.jpeg.fb8657676aa395abab8e6e301a513082.jpeg

He’s doing 3 - 5 kms per day.  Hard to believe this is the same dog that could only be walked for 10 minutes 3 times a day when I first got him!  he’ll probably be sad when I start walking him again - LOL.

@marshhawk Annie I am so sorry to hear how things have turned out for Chuck and for you.  My prayers are with you both 🙏

Prayers for those on the Care list and all who need them.  Cheers to those celebrating.

Happy Hump Day.  Thank you Rich, Jacqui, Vanessa, Ann, Debbie, and Dixie.    Three great days to celebrate although I needed to google two of them..  Extra hugs for @marshhawk, @catmando, @Nickelpenny., @smitty34877, @RMLincoln, and @kazu.

I like the Lindburg quote.

I boarded ships in Pireaus twice, Silver Whisper in 2007 and Crystal Serenity in 2020.

A great day nor US Women’s history...

The meal sounds interesting..  My alternative is Pineapple Boat, Rack of Lamb with with Tomato Couscous, and Garlic Pearls, and Black Forest Cake as served on MS Veendam May 15, 2017.

Yesterday was Primary day in Maryland, Hardly anyone I voted for won, but I am satisfied with the actual winners..

A later good morning than usual from mostly sunny central Texas.  I've been up a while, but had to get some things done early since we are waiting for the tech to arrive and replace a windshield in one of the cars.  He's supposed to text us when he's on his way, and the time frame is 8am to 5pm. I knew if I didn't get up early and get ready, he'd be here at 8am.  Now we are just waiting.  It is 70F and heading to 88F this afternoon.  The clouds will be moving in this afternoon, and rain tomorrow, so I'll enjoy the good weather today along with doing laundry.

The tech just called and said he thinks he'll be here about "noonish".  He'll text or call when he is finished with the customer before us.

I'm not sure how this happened, but this was posted before I finished.  I hope I can finish before it times out.

I'll celebrate families and honor kangaroo care and MPS awareness.

I like the Anne Morrow Lindberg quote.

The meal sounds good, but we'll pass on the drink and the wine.

We have been to Athens several times, and I repost my pictures when I finish this.

The day in history was a good beginning for women's rights in the US.

@marshhawk  Annie, I'm glad your DH has an appointment with the doctor who didn't have openings until January.  I hope this doctor can help him.  I'm sorry your friend's cancer has advanced and that his time is growing very short.  I hope he can be kept comfortable during his remaining days.

@cat shepard  Ann, I'm glad you and Bindi remained safe last night.  I'm also happy that you sister is doing better, is more active and doing things for herself.

@mamaofami  Carol, it was good to hear from you.  I hope your dental implants are finished and glad the eye issue is resolved.

@kazu  Jacqui, I'm sorry your foot is still so painful.  I hope you can get some relief soon.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Families need to be celebrated every day, even those who aren't getting along well.  I've always liked watching kangaroos on television, but have never seen one in person.  Thank you @grapau27for the explanation of MPS - sounds like a devastating condition.  We've had the pleasure of being at today's port twice; great memories made there.

When I got up a half hour ago, the sun was shining brightly, but as I look out the computer room window, I can see the skies are clouding over.  I just checked the weather app and it's telling me there's a 40% chance of rain.  I'm not going to complain - as long as it's warm enough to rain, it's also too warm for frost.  Hopefully after the long weekend it will remain warm enough that I can put the plants out into their pots without worrying about having to go out at night to cover them.

Yesterday was busy getting DH's pre-op medical, blood test, then hitting the stores for extras like sleep shorts, and of course groceries.  We stopped at a food court for lunch where I ordered dried ribs and Caesar salad and was amazed at the amount of food in that take-out container.  I had enough for lunch (DH had schnitzel), and there was still so much left that we shared the leftovers for dinner last night.

I'm sending prayers out to @marshhawkfor better days ahead for Chuck, to @Nickelpennythat she'll be up and around again soon, to @kazuthat your foot issues are quickly and fully resolved, to @57redbirdas you have your dental procedure today.

@mamaofamiit was nice to hear from you again; hopefully things will have calmed down that you'll be with us more often, as in the past.

@cat shepardhow frightening for you & Bindi having to hunker down in your closet!

Not much on our agenda today - we're starting to isolate in advance of Maurice's surgery next week, something that I'd planned on doing, but when we were at the doctor's yesterday, he suggested it might be a good idea so DH doesn't pick up a  bug that could prevent him from having the procedure.  I might take a run out to one of the grocery store pop up nurseries to see if they have any bright coloured baskets I can put into the pots in the back yard.  There is so much greenery that we need pops of colour to add interest.

I'd like to try the drink of the day (will add that to the taste test list), will let others enjoy the wine, and like the idea of having blueberry lemon bread for dinner!  While I'm out I'll pick up some blueberries and fresh lemons and will try to see what happens when I put them together.  For us though, it'll be the lasagna leftovers I was going to serve last night.  I'll put together the Caesar salad and we can enjoy it with lasagna at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, and in the paths of devastating storms and fires.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

We have been to Athens at least four times, not counting the two times we flew home from there.

In 2019 while on the Veendam, we took the Ho-Ho from Piraeus into Athens.  The first group of pictures were taken from the bus as we drove through Piraeus.

The next pictures are from the bus in Athens.  It was one of the hottest days of the year, and they closed the Acropolis in the afternoon due to the heat.

In 2017 on the Prinsendam, we took a taxi to the Acropolis, but due to the lines just waiting to get a ticket, we decided not to visit the top.  We'd been there in 2003 on the old Regal Princess.  Instead, we walked down the hill to the ancient agora and then to the modern agora.  This was a street between the Acropolis and the agora.

I have a few more pictures from our stops in Athens and Piraeus.  The Church of the Holy Trinity in Piraeus between the cruise terminal and the train station.

In 2016 while on the Prinsendam, we took a tour to the Corinth Canal which included a boat ride through the canal.  The first picture is taken from the bridge over the canal.   On the tv show the Amazing Race, the contestants had to bungee jump from the bridge.  In the second picture, the small ship was stuck for a while and our boat circled the bay until the ship was moving again.

On our first visit to Athens in 2002, when we were much younger, and fitter, we climbed to the top of the Acropolis.  I know there are similar pictures, but no visit to Athens should leave out pictures of the Acropolis.

Those seats do not look very comfortable.  I hope the performances didn't drag on too long.  😀

If anyone has not seen the movie "My Life in Ruins", you might like the movie.  It is set in many places like Delphi, the Acropolis, etc.  It’s a cute movie with a good cast and makes for a fun evening.

Good humid and rainy morning. It’s supposed to rain off and on all day.

We received a lovely flower arrangement late yesterday from our deeply loved veterinary staff. The other cats are very clingy, they miss him .

Blessings and prayers to all on our journey.

Good morning Dailyites and thank you for the Daily Report.

Sorry I didn't post yesterday. I had internet issues from the t-storms in the morning, then I played "catch-up" the rest of the day at work.

I hope everyone here has a wonderful day!

I am loving all the pictures of Athens!!  I am just getting started researching for a cruise to the Greek Islands for next year. I’d love anyone’s input on the best time to go. Is it too cold in Feb.-March?  Too hot in July-Aug?  How about Sept.-Oct? Or maybe April-May is the perfect time?

I envy all of you who have been there several times. This may be my only trip there, and I want to see all that I can see!

Thank you in advance.

Interesting collection of days. Would try the "meal" (@dfish pictures are pretty) and wine, maybe the drink. We departed from Pireaus June 2017 on Princess and did Turnaround Day there 7 days later before heading to Barcelona. We did the HOHO on Turnaround Day and quite enjoyed it. No pictures as they're on my computer & I'm on my phone. I'm enjoying seeing all the pictures from others.

Happy to hear from @kazu but wish the report was more positive; prayers 🙏 for healing soon.

@57redbird prayers for a successful procedure today.

Currently 72° headed to sunny 90° with rain tomorrow.

Prayers 🙏 and positive thoughts for all.

I'm not very aware of Kangaroo Care. I hope that a treatment for MPS is found.

I hope that the bread is made with healthy blueberries and lemons, but I don't think that it's notably healthful. Pass on the drink. Viognier is the typical white variety of the Rhone, so not an obvious choice for the Finger Lakes, but several wineries grow it and say that the slower ripening yields more intense flavor. I'd try the 2018 from Goose Watch Winery at the north end of Seneca Lake. I was in Athens before and after a cruise from Piraeus on the Norwegian Jade in 2022 but I posted my photos then.

This region was the center of the woman suffrage movement, beginning with the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848. Stanton's family lived in Seneca Falls and their house is part of the Women's Rights National Historical Park. Anthony was from Rochester.

I could use some help with planning shore activities for my Panama Canal cruise in December. The ports are Puerto Plata and Catalina Island in the DR, Willemstad, and Oranjestad.

I don't need any suggestions for Willemstad, where I spent a week several years ago. I've been to Puerto Plata twice, but the second time was when I was ill in January and didn't go ashore; I could reschedule the eating-drinking tour with Iguana Mama that I cancelled then, but I'm more of a mind to take a taxi to the teleférico and visit the botanical garden. Some standard tours go there but I don't think they allow enough time for the garden. I do not want to visit any more rum factories, ride about in a jeep, or ride a horse or donkey.

Catalina Island is notable for the lack of options, and the cruise line's offerings are distinctively unappealing. I'm open to suggestions for Oranjestad, which I've never visited.

Good morning and thanks for the daily and fleet report. Interesting days to celebrate. The meal sounds good but I think anything other than something liquid would probably be divine. I’ve been to Athens but not the port as I flew there. Go get them Susan B Anthony!!!!

the start of day 3 flat on my back but they will start raising the head of the bed in increments today. Hopefully I will get to walk. I got behind the pain and was miserable for a while but we came to a compromise about when to take it. I don’t like taking pain pills!

thank you all who have wished me best wishes. I know if I name people I will forget one. Just know when you mention me I truly appreciate it.

this glitch has made me change some plans but I think it will all work out for me.

thoughts for the other who are dealing with challenges and cheers for those celebrating. Have a great day!

So exciting to plan a trip to such a great place - congrats!!

My first visit was during a June and it was MISERABLE (weather wise). I live in TX so I know heat and humidity, but golly it was brutal. We had really long port days and wanted to make the most of our time so we spent 10-12 hours outside playing tourist every day - ugh.

The next visit was during an Oct and the weather was much more tolerable; we also had occasional rain 🌧 that we did not have during the June visit, so that helped.

While we didn't have the crowds in Oct that we did in June, it was still VERY crowded; we commented to each other" don't these people know it's off season and they're not supposed to be here?" The crowds, of course, will contribute to the heat, so you'll want to account for them as you plan your itinerary and wardrobe.

You may want to post the same question on the port boards.

Congrats again - safe travels- enjoy your cruise!
