Rabbit, rabbit.

A number of years ago I drove to Ottawa for the Canada Day weekend -- not really for that, although I did go to Parliament Hill for the fireworks -- but to participate in a Volksmarch festival that had four scheduled walks (everyone walks on the same day) and five year-round walks (people walk whenever they want, with a map and directions). I learned once again that, with border officials, the simplest explanation is best. The agent was incredulous that anyone would come to Canada to walk; I should have said that I was going to see the fireworks.

I would want the cabbage not to be too spicy. The drink might be OK but I'll probably never know. For a Chardonnay, let's try an unoaked one from the Point of Bluff Vineyards on Keuka Lake, $25 for the 2023 vintage. "Yellow straw color. Savory aromas and flavors of dried apple and pineapple, dusty country road, lanolin lotion, and sorrel with a silky, crisp, dry-yet-fruity medium body and an effortless, captivating, medium-length finish with accents of tangerine, starfruit, and lemon squeeze with a suggestion of oak flavor. A crisp and appetizing un-oaked Chardonnay that will be versatile" (2021 vintage).

Rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit. 😉

Good morning Daily family. Happy Canada Day to our neighbors to the north. 🇨🇦 I’m still here, just not “here” on the Daily (or CC) very much. Doing alright (thanks for asking about me Annie @marshhawk). Just life.

It’s been hot hot hot 🥵 for the last few weeks. Looking forward to my upcoming Alaska cruise next month.

Rabbit, Rabbit, White Rabbit.  Happy Canada Day to our northern dailyites.  Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Ann and Dixie  I’ll celebrate all three of today’s days although I think sometimes our drug policies have unfortunate side effects.    Special prayers for Jacaui, Terri, Katherine’s friend, Sandi’s brother, Scottie,  Chuck, and Tana.

A lot of truth in the Twain quote.

I have not been to today’s port.
.

A great day for Canada.  Pleased that Newfoundland and Labrador, PEI, Manitoba, Alberta, and BC have become provinces in their own right, I wonder if Yukon, Nunavut, and NWT will eventually become provinces.  I would guess Yukon is the most likely.

I’ll pass on today’s meal.  My alternative is Dive-in fries.  I generally take them naked..

Looks like a beautiful day today.  I’ve finished my walk and will be at the fire house this afternoon.

🍁🇨🇦🍁Happy Canada Day!🍁🇨🇦🍁

This morning, I was searching for a salad recipe to take to a bbq on the 4th.  Thank you the Spicy Coleslaw recipes @dfish.  I will be making the first one.

Love the Twain quote. I will leave you today with my favorite Twain quote, the one I always wrote in my student’s yearbooks.IMG_0623.thumb.png.f2ed3b57e4a3dd1c3f5d1a6c1e909a24.png

Good morning. It is beautiful here with a breeze and low humidity. Yesterday the storms were a tad scary but the power held.
Happy Canada Day to our friends in the North !
I have not been to Japan and look forward to photos. The slaw recipes all look good but I am going to try the third one for our July 4 cookout. Thank you, as always, Debbie @dfish.

@marshhawk, Annie, I hope you are able to get a word in with the doc or PA regarding your DH.
@Cruzin Terri, If the tear is not repaired it is certainly very painful for a while and I am sorry that you are going through this. I hope it improves soon.

@Nickelpenny, Pennie, how is your surgical scar now? I marvel at your ability to tolerate high temperatures .

@StLouisCruisers, Sandi, sorry to read that your DH has the cold now. I am glad you are mostly better.

Enjoy the day everyone!

My favourite quote is the one Joseph Rosendo uses at the end of travel scope - travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow mindedness….

That is a great quote by Twain too!  And to finish it…Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

Happy Canada Day to our Canadian friends. Did my walk early as it’s a beautiful day but we are under heat advisory’s.

It’s laundry day and I need to go to grocery store for tonight’s dinner. Sue is driving back to St. John’s today and will return here tomorrow.

I will have to look at our 2026 Seabourn itinerary if we are going to today’s port of call. The itinerary has many ports in Japan.

Time to get out of these sweaty exercise clothes and clean up and get going. Thanks for the reports and post. Bruce

Nothing on my agenda today other than market and chores.

CabadaDay.jpg.c26570d6eca916a9d21c6eb963b029a6.jpg

Happy Canada Day to all our Canadian Dailyites.

A later good morning as I was just plain lazy this morning.  It is 86F at 9:15 and feels like 94F.  Our predicted high is 99F. and I wouldn't be surprised if our outdoor thermometers read 100F this afternoon.  We're still under a heat advisory, which I don't expect to be lifted until sometime in September.  The humidity is 68% with a dew point of 74F; so it wasn't too bad when I put the trash out a little while ago.  Our 7mph wind from the SW hasn't reached our neighbor's flag yet.  There's not much on the agenda except staying cool today.

Three good days to honor today.

I like the Mark Twain quote, but that is as far as I'll go.

We'll pass on the meal, drink and the wine.

Aburatsu, Miyazaki, Japan, is another Japanese port we haven't visited.

A good day to celebrate the 1867 formation of the Dominion of Canada.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, I'm sorry your DH has caught a cold.  I hope he is better soon.

@marshhawk  Annie, I hope your DH's infusion goes well today.  I also hope you get to talk to the doctor or the PA regarding the behavioral changes.

@ottahand7  Nancy, I hope your DB starts improving soon.  It sounds like he needs to be seen by the surgeon, and maybe transferred back to the hospital.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, I'm sorry you are still having such bad arm pain and that nothing seems to be easing it.

@RMLincoln  Maureen, I hope all goes well at the eye doctor this morning.

@cunnorl  Charlene, I bet the dogs, cats, and little kids will be glad to celebrate July 4 without fireworks.

@dobiemom  Marcia, thanks for checking in, and letting us know everything is all right just busy.  Enjoy your Alaska cruise.

@0106  Tina, thanks for the quote.  It is a good one to remember.  Thanks for adding the rest of the quote that @superoma Eva shared.

@superoma  Eva, I like that quote, too.  We've found that we have a different world view and more open minds than many we know who have never traveled far from where they were born.

@aliaschief  Safe travels today and tomorrow to Sue.

Good morning,

Rabbit, Rabbit, White Rabbit! Happy Canada Day! I'm a Canadian citizen, permanent US resident so will wear my Canada shirt and maple leaf earrings today.

Yesterday afternoon was quite nice as I went to a "send-off" for a friend's DS who is moving to Minnesota. This is the friend who is sailing with me on Sunday (her first ever cruise and first time to Alaska). To say she is excited is an understatement! Her son will pick her up at the Seattle port on the 14th (she'll walk off and I'll wait until later) and they will head out for his new home as they are hoping to make it to Billings that day. Anyway, we were in her mother-in-law's back yard on a very balmy afternoon with good company, good food, we played a couple of games and enjoyed visiting.

This week is somewhat busy and starts off with highs in the low 70's but at least 10-15 degrees higher by the 4th. Today is water aerobics (2 classes), an errand and then home. DS should be by to work on baseboards. Life is good.

Good morning. Cloudy here with a high of 70F predicted. Last night we got more rain and with it lots of lightning and thunder. Great night for sleeping. Not a good night for getting the dogs out, but we managed between storms - Monty Chihuahua does not like to get wet. We may get some more showers this afternoon and then it is supposed to clear and we move into a dry spell. Our city fireworks are a "go" but fortunately my dogs do not seem to notice them although if a neighbor sends off one, they may look interested and I do keep these two inside. One of my scotties, years ago, used to love them!!! She actually would look up to watch them. I could almost hear her saying "WOW". Strange little dog.

Nothing else from here really.... I seem to be in a bit of a rut these days but I do keep looking at cruises.

Best wishes and positive thoughts for all.

Susan

Good morning all and Happy Canada Day to our neighbors to the north!  DD's MIL was born in Germany, raised in Canada, and now lives in the US.  She has family both in Germany and Canada.

We're having a couple cloudy days and then a long stretch of sunny, warmer days.  Up to the mid 80's -- yes, summer has finally arrived.  Sun and no rain for as far as the forecast goes.

I have an appointment for labs this morning before my appointment next week with my Nephrologist.  We'll see how my kidneys are doing now.  After that DH and I will drive down to DD's house and give a good soaking to her vegetable and flower gardens.  I'll be going down to water everything inside and out every week while they're gone.

Good collection of days, and I love the quote.  I'll pass on the meal and drink, and would like the wine because it has "subtle hints of oak".  I actually prefer a touch of oak in chardonnay.  Have not been to Japan.

Sandi @StLouisCruisers I'm sorry your DH has that cold now.  It sounds awful, hope he gets over it quickly.

Nancy @ottahand7 More prayers for your DB.

@ottahand7

Nancy does your DB have access to a Mayo Clinic?

One of my friends had surgery and though I won’t go into details, would have died if her husband hadn’t taken her to Mayo Clinic. It took two months to clear up the infection that had traveled from the surgical site to other major organs. They had to put her on a wound vac.

This is after the original surgeon pronounced “everything looks fine” and someone in his office “cleaned out” the original site - twice.

Meeping him in my prayers.

Good morning to all, and Happy Canada Day to all our friends up north.  Roy, I have to ask why did you get thrown off the ship in Freemantle?  Prayers to all our friends in need.

Rabbit, Rabbit, White Rabbit

 🐇  🐇 🐇

Good morning and Happy Monday and Happy Canada Day!!  🇨🇦

Good collection of days. I believe I’ve had the LaCrema before and it’s not bad for a Chardonnay. Usually not my favorite. I’ll pass on the drink, any time I see schnapps I cringe.

Thank you for the recipes Debbie @dfish  and also your family recipe. I had never heard of Garlic Expressions so did some research. It’s locally available at some Target and Fry’s but not near me. I see that it’s available online too and Amazon but I’m thinking about going to the closest Fry’s that has it available instead.

Yesterday I didn’t stay very long in the pool because I didn’t like the look of the clouds. I’m not sure about today, it’s much cooler and will only be about 95.

Blue didn’t feel good yesterday and didn’t eat lunch but after our nap he searched out all the hidden pieces of food that he had tucked away and gobbled down dinner. I think he eats icky stuff outside, silly thing, and gets tummy aches.

We let Summer sleep in her fort again, we didn’t have the heart to have her take it down.

I got an email from someone in the trivia group from the Volendam cruise last year saying that they and another couple are on the 28 day Westerdam Alaskan cruise. Sounds like they are having fun. The couple were the ones who set up our special Pinnacle Grill dinner. They arranged an off menu meal with the chef. It was very good.

Have a great day everyone!

Not Roy here, but he was on World Cruise when COVID ended it in 2020.  He was on QM2 in Fremantle. I’m sure he’ll be back to the Daily later today.

I’m just in waiting room at eye doctor….

Nancy, very concerned for your brother!  🙏 they can turn this around. Had a friend who had all this… they took out the replacement knee parts, got it all under control, put in new parts!  Hoping for a good outcome!

Good morning. Thanks for the FR/Daily. Rabbit, Rabbit, White Rabbit.

Happy Canada Day to all Canadian Dailyites! I admire everyone who is devoted to duty. Televsion Heritage Day celebrates TV; television has its good and bad sides. The DEA does some important work. Funny and sad Twain quote. Yes to the meal, pass on the drink and wine. I haven't been to Aburatsu. The day in history is why it's Canada Day.

It was in the 50's this AM, now 67. It's refreshing, but won't last. I've been out to Aldi, picking up some things for BFF, in addition to the grocery store yesterday. So I'll have a lot to haul into his house, plus all the stuff for making dinner this afternoon.

@StLouisCruisers I hope DH is over his cold soon; it's no fun being sick, especially away from home.

@marshhawk I hope DH's immunotherapy goes well today and that you get to talk to the doctor or the PA.

@ottahand7 I hope they get the doctor to see your DB soon; I think someone needs to be the squeaky wheel. Icing won't cure infection; maybe he needs a different antibiotic. Did they have an infectious disease specialist see him when he was in the hospital?

@Cruzin Terri Can you contact your doctor's office? I know you said he's away, but there should be someone covering or a PA to talk to.

@dfish Thanks for the recipes. I never heard of Garlic Expressions, and it looks like my local grocery store may carry it.

@RMLincoln Prayers for a stable report for DH at the eye doctor visit.

@cruising sister That should be fun for DS and DGS. But I have my doubts about the USA coming out on top.

@dobiemom Thanks for stopping in to say hello.

@0106 That's a great quote.

@superoma Another great quote.

@rafinmd Beautiful sunset.

@Sir PMP Thanks for the Aburatsu photos.

Prayers for the Care List and a Toast to those Celebrating.
