Alaska 2026

We've done 2 "regular" round trip cruises to Alaska (10 day and 12 day), 2 Connoisseur cruise tours to Alaska (13 day and 15 day), and did a 7 week camping trip from Northern California up to Fairbanks and back. I'd love to do another Alaska cruise but I don't think I can get my wife onboard with the idea. Far too many other places we have yet to visit. "Maybe" I can work on her for 2026 though... 😉

All I have to hear is "90 degree or higher temp" and I am willing to go to Alaska in a heart beat.

I completely understand. I recently spent 2 weekends in my house (no grocery shopping, etc..) as I didn't want to go out in similar heat. We had cool temps the past few days of 80's but are back in the 90's for the next 10 days. I have a friend who is in Utah and always has those high temps in the summer - I just tell him it is a dry heat and that is completely different from those of us with humidity 🙂 I don't think he believes me!!!

Enjoy Alaska!

We're looking forward to a couple of days forecast soon of 97° and 98° Definitely much cooler. It's been 106° and 108° the last couple of days. Lots of places hotter than it is here. It was 90° at midnight the other night but we kill the AC at 10:00 PM and open the windows no matter the temperature. We run the ceiling fan in the bedroom at night. I generally wake up around 5:30 AM and turn on the whole house fan and go back to bed.

It seems hot but when I was a kid pretty much nobody had AC. We had a swamp cooler and cars didn't have AC. We managed to survive so we actually have it much easier these days with AC during the day.

Thank you Coral for your ongoing service in giving us the information.

Intrigued to find out what Star Princess is doing between its last currently published Caribbean itinerary ending 28 March 2026 and its first Alaska cruise on 3 May. Probably not enough time to round South America so must be transiting the Panama Canal 🤔

Thank you so much!  We want to do that 20 day RT out of San Francisco and will definitely be booking it.  We did an Alaska cruise in 2008 and then in 2021 we did a 6 day road trip from Anchorage to Fairbanks and both were fantastic.  So excited!

Question:  I'm a lowly Ruby (only 3 sailings).  When will I be able to book?  Do I have to wait until Friday or next week?

You are way tougher than me my friend. I am impressed. Our daytimes are topping 108 and our nights are not getting below 75. Ughh. We installed 29 huge solar panels a few years back, best decision ever.  I run my AC and my bill might be $20 on a bad month. But I’ve enough credit from returned energy on good months to cover it. I am really looking forward to this weekend’s lower temps and then I do exactly what you do with opening the house and using the whole house fan.

I am so jealous of @Cruise Raideras she’s been texting me about the sailing she’s on right now in Alaska. I really just need to always book a couple of RT SF sailings to Alaska in July/August to get out of the heat every year. Lord knows we don’t get any work in the yard or on the house done in those months!

For the first time, guests will have the opportunity to explore Alaska aboard a Sphere Class ship as Star Princess sails her first summer season in the Great Land, offering unparalleled views of glaciers and wildlife. As the second ship in the Sphere Class following Sun Princess, Star Princess launches in fall 2025 and promises an elevated cruising experience.

A true engineering marvel and a global citizen, this ship features innovative architectural spectacles like The Dome, the industry's first geodesic structure, and The Sphere, a suspended glass Piazza. Additionally, it is celebrated, along with sister ship Sun Princess, as the greatest foodie destination at sea, promising to tantalize taste buds with world-class culinary offerings.

Bookings open August 1 with the "Better Than Best Price Guarantee" offering the best rates and 120% of the price difference as onboard credit if a lower rate is found before final payment. This promotion ends September 2, 2024 with full details here.
