JazzyV Posted 13 hours ago #27 Share Posted 13 hours ago Good morning from Boston. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily. 3 good days to celebrate. I like the quote. The meal looks good. Pass on the drink and wine. I have been to Cape Horn and the Drake passage. Sorry the formatting of the Cares list may be off, as I’m using my iPad. I will be boarding around 12:30. Thanks for the Bon Voyage wishes. On the drive here we had light rain from Helene, and lots of road construction. I’ll be glad to relax on the ship. The leg isn’t too bad, and I plan to take off the wrap tonight as it won’t stay up. I’ll try the new compression garment on it tomorrow. I’m deciding about taking the rollator onboard. @StLouisCruisers Thanks for the photos of Cape Horn and the newlyweds. @Cruzin Terri Good luck with the appointments today. @dfish I’m sorry to hear how Sue’s son is treating her. @rafinmd I hope you get the go ahead to transfer to rehab today. Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Rare 0106 Posted 13 hours ago #31 Share Posted 13 hours ago Good Morning! Here is what I wrote on February 6, 2024 at 9am during our Drake Passage on the Oosterdam. The waves are 30 feet; the winds are70+ knots. The captain is turning the ship to try to find shelter behind Deception Island. We have been advised to remain seated for the next 30 minutes. Later in the afternoon. We are in the icebergs now. Bit calmer. Arriving at Deception island soon. Just announced bow will open in 15 minutes. Positive thoughts to all who need them. Cheers to those celebrating. 25
Rare ottahand7 Posted 13 hours ago #32 Share Posted 13 hours ago We have been to Cape Horn, I think we went after Ushuaia for some reason probably due to weather. Thanks for the recipes and drinks ladies. You can't put enough cheese on cauliflower to make it edible for me. I would enjoy the Spider-Man cocktail and the vino, an interesting one from NZ. Thanks for the cares and celebrations reports Vanessa. I hope your legs are pain free on your cruise. Prayers for healing for you Roy. Continuing prayers for Tana and Terry, Jacqui, Jim and Terri, Sandi and her DB, Chuck and Annie, Pat, Bonnie, Melissa, Ann and everyone else who are ailing or grieving. Prayers for all in war zones. I had a late start this morning after sleeping late to watch the Ravens beat the Bills big time, a happy day in the house. Vikings remain undefeated and a big win for the Ravens. Back to the drudgery of finding speakers for our April school and fun working outdoors later. Nancy 27

They spent the day sightseeing and going to a pasta cooking class. They saw the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, and Pantheon. They walked off the pasta they ate at their cooking class with 9 miles of steps. Today is a visit to the Vatican and they're very excited! Lovely photos of a very happy couple Sandi. Nice to hear they are visiting all of the famous Rome attractions. 16

Rare puppycanducruise Posted 12 hours ago #37 Share Posted 12 hours ago Good morning. Thanks for the Report. It's hard to believe that it's the last day of September already. We've got fog here this morning, I'm glad we don't have any place to go. It's the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada, a day that honours the children that never returned from Residential Schools and the survivors of those schools. The meal sounds good, thanks for the recipes. I'll pass on the drink, I'll try the wine. Prayers for so many. I hope there are lots of reasons to celebrate. Have a great day. 24

Rare kazu Posted 12 hours ago #39 Share Posted 12 hours ago thanks for our Daily, Sandi & Rich and thanks to Banessa and our F & B team. Love people day - every day 🙂. Love the quote too. DD DH rounded Cape Horn and moving and packing I discovered our certificates that DD DH had kept. I actually got a few hours sleep last night. I don’t think I can credit the Galatian . I put a thermacare on my back where the issues I supposed to b e and slept on the couch sitting up. It does’t seem to bother the foot as much if I am not fully lying down. Slid down around 4 to lie flat for a bit. If that is what it takes to work, I’ll do it. I’m going to try it again tonight. Nothing on the missing items. I since the company is a Van ine agent, I called them on Friday and they don’t even have the referenced number needed for Van Lines on my bill so she is doing some digging and will be back to me. I’d rather just get the lamp shade back. It can’t be replaced and means a lot to me. I’m not holding out hope but I’m still not giving up. Prayers for those on the Care list and those that need them. Cheeers to those celebrating and lucky enough to cruise. 28

Quartzsite Cruiser Posted 12 hours ago #43 Share Posted 12 hours ago (edited) Good morning from a cool, clear central Texas. It is 62F with a 2mph wind from the ESE, but the sun will warm it up soon. The humidity is 89% with a dew point of 59F. The predicted high is 91F, and we'll be in the low 90s for the coming week. As soon as it warms up a bit more, I'll be out trimming the bushes, and I hope to have it done and the trimmings bagged before the trash comes. On a good note, I ordered the free Covid test kits Thursday morning, and they are out for delivery today. We must have been one of the first ones to place an order, or maybe, not many are ordering their kits. Podcasts are important to many, but I've not listened to one. Good translators are always needed. I try to love most people, but honestly, there are some who are just unlovable. An interesting quote, but it is still too early to really understand. We'll skip the meal and the drink. The wine sounds like one to try. We have sailed the Drake Passage and seen Cape Horn twice. The first time at Cape Horn in 1999, the sea was almost glassy and the crew of Noordam III were in shock. The second time in 2015, the seas were very rough, and the captain had to cancel the scenic cruising around Cape Horn. Instead we stayed on the leeward side to minimize the ship's movement. Three important days in history. Ether was a big step forward in medicine, but I'm glad there other, better anesthetics now. A good day in 1950 for Grand Ole Opry fans. The ethernet changed the way computers and people communicated after 1980. @rafinmd Roy, I hope you are able to transfer back to rehab to continue your recovery. @seagarsmoker Jody, good luck on the new project. @Cruzin Terri Terri, that is good news you had no real damage from the storm. I hope the dentist is able to save Jim's tooth, and that the ophthalmologist can work him in today. @cat shepard Ann, I'm glad the plans for your Egyptian trip are coming together. @dfish Debbie, I'm sorry Sue had to block her son. Tell her hello for us. @RedneckBob RNB, welcome back, and I'm glad you are feeling better. I hope you are at 100% soon. @JazzyV Vanessa, about taking the rollator on the cruise, DH found his helpful on the moving ship even though he got around with a cane on land. @kazu Jacqui, I'm glad you managed to get some sleep. I hope the person at the moving company can find the reference number and can locate your missing items. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted 12 hours ago #44 Share Posted 12 hours ago Here are a couple of pictures of our 2015 visit to Cape Horn on the Ruby Princess. We were supposed to sail around the island, but the weather was extremely bad and the seas were so rough, the Captain decided to stay behind the island in the calmest area. I think Sandi, @StLouisCruisers, will agree that he made the correct decision since we'd had two days of extremely rough seas between Cape Horn and The Falkland Islands. In the first picture of the lighthouse, you can see how the flag is blowing in the wind. The second picture shows the rough seas and the waves crashing on the shore. In 1999, the crew on the Noordam III couldn't believe how calm the seas were. That was the only time that season they'd had calm seas. Rare ottahand7 Posted 12 hours ago #45 Share Posted 12 hours ago This was probably on January 30, 2023 beginning 8 straight sea days as we headed to Antarctica and missing The Falklands. January 30, 2023 Grand South America on the Volendam. As Tina @0106 mentioned we had to do the same maneuver. I think I missed Captain's warning to sit down and came out of the bathroom and instead of sky usually visible it was all water. A view of lifetime for sure. Not many photos from that area so some good porn that night. We had planned on a special carry on wine for our dinner in Canaletto. The wine was gone at the end of first course. They had a large private travel agency dinner in Canaletto that night and our entrees came and hour after our soup. Why didn't they warn us that we should rebook another night. There must have been twenty with that group. 25 7
Rare cruising sister Posted 12 hours ago #46 Share Posted 12 hours ago Good morning, It is a beautiful fall day here in Kansas. This is my favorite time of year. My visit to Cape Horn was smooth as glass. Our whole Drake passage was calm. It was a wonderful cruise. I had a busy weekend with the grands. It is always tiring but so worth it. I am glad to hear some improvement in our Dailyites health. All of our prayers have been helping. My plan for this week is to clean out the garage. Fun times! Everyone have a great day. 28
ellbelle Posted 12 hours ago #47 Share Posted 12 hours ago (edited) Good morning, it’s still dark here and slated to get to 95 today, which will be cool compared to the 100’s forecasted the rest of the week. Have I mentioned I’m sick of summer? Seems everyone and their brother has podcasts these days but a nice collection of days. Have not been to Cape Horn yet although still on “my” radar. The meal looks good, may have to try. Tonight I’m going to make sautéed shrimp with garlic and parsley and serve over basmati rice. I’m still using up my shrimp “fest” in my freezer so it’ll probably be one shrimp dish a week for a few weeks. No lunches to prepare today and no granddaughter this morning either. The city is doing an upgrade to the rainwater drainage system and construction is in front of our across the street neighbors today, so we are blocked in. No way in or out, lucky we’re retired (as many on our street) otherwise this would be a pain. They have had two excavators working together along with five dump trucks in wait and these things are massive in size so we’re staying out of the way. We are going to attempt to get some crabgrass pulled out of our back lawn, the gardeners have treated twice to no avail. I also want to trim back the new growth on our tomatoes, hoping to direct the energy to the remaining fruit. Thinking of all on the care list and yay to those traveling! Have a great day. marshhawk Posted 11 hours ago #48 Share Posted 11 hours ago Good Monday Morning Dailyites! I woke up and turned on the news only to find that a chemical plant in the county east of ours had exploded and saw huge plumes of gases flowing out.into the air. They said that they were asking for people to evacuate in that county near the plant, and others to close their windows and turn off the air. BUT they didnt say which way the wind was blowing, and I did smell weird air when I went out to feed the outdoorians. Our friends live in that county, But they are staying with the youngest daughter during the week while the husband is working in an office over on the southern part of town. Helene just isnt going away, and the amount of damage the rains did in NC is incredible. I rerouted our trip out west, as we were going to start out at a museum near the NC border. Now we will be going through Alabama and Mississippi, ;and stop in Corinth MS. I have a personal goal to visit all of the Civil War battlefields, before land grubbers buy out all the land. I have been to Gettysburg, Antietam. Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge,Andersonville (where the only battle was to stay alive, but my grandmothers older brother did not) Tupelo (battlefield is a small park the size of half of a city block) and an area of Florida, a non battle which happened near the end of the Civil war, where they just chased each other around amongst the swamp and the pines. Visiting Corinth and Shiloh is a bucket list for me. I guess I will get around to Virginia some time, where one of my great uncles died in Richmond. The battle of Cold Harbour. I think most families would have gone through 5 generations since the civil war, mine has only had 3. @RedneckBobI am sorry that you have been ill, and I do hope that better days are coming soon for you. You were truly missed here. Perhaps you should get one of our email addresses so that if something goes wrong, you or a family member will let us know what is going on. The Dailyites are family. We worry. @dfishI am sorry that Sue is having a hard time with her son. Other than blocking him on her phone, there is not much more she can do. Call the law? no. Unless he shows up at your door. I was taking care of my dad in Florida years ago, and my beau at the time went off the wagon while he was staying in my house to take care of my cats. He got lonely and drunk, and called long distance to random numbers in Alaska, because he said they were all lonely (in winter) and would talk to him. My phone bill was over 600 bucks that month. I then added unlimited long distance to the phone, and threw him out. DH is sleeping in this morning, I guess that binge watching Downtown Abbey all weekend was too much for him. And we only got into season 2. I cant wait til Formula 1 comes back. From the Museum of Rome
RMLincoln Posted 11 hours ago #49 Share Posted 11 hours ago (edited) Still dismal here, mostly 60s. I’ll take it! BON VOYAGE Vanessa and BFF 🚢. I hope you can enjoy it all let the pain subside. And I hope Boston can refuel your ship by bunker barge, not trucks like we had for Emerald Princess last month! Lost a day waiting…. Nancy, the Ravens game was a hoot! But I didn’t sleep much after so a slow morning. DH walked over to medical for bloodwork. So convenient. And after all the checking in on family from storm woes, I have to say I’m so blessed to be here! I feel very safe here! I do not miss fire season and living in a place that has to hope to dodge disasters. Blessings to all the Care list -praying for improvements, and Thank you Vanessa! Cheers for the cruisers and everyone celebrating 🌈 Enjoy today! Maureen PS Our circle around Cape Horn in February 2013 on Carnival Splendor’s long repositioning was interesting. It was low cloud ceiling and blowing hard, the ship was leaning, first one side, then turning around the island we leaned the other way. It didn’t pitch or roll, just leaned. Rain on windows made photos blurry and I think the outside was all closed off. We had a window room so only blurry photos. Needed binoculars to made out the monument. Thanks for the beautiful photos!
