  1. Apparently there are numerous victims of the Great Japan Oversold Cruises Saga who would dispute that contention. Supposedly Celeb knew about the problem for 6 months before doing anything. And many contradictory excuses with no official explanation. At least the OP seems to have gotten fair compensation and a believable explanation. What a shame these imbroglios disrupt people's dreams so often now.
  2. @Belgian fry If you want to suggest the travel news side of Cruise Critic investigates these problems for an article, you can try these contacts listed in the About Us link on the main Cruise Critic page: Questions, Feedback or Suggestions feedback@cruisecritic.com The Independent Traveler 400 1st Avenue Needham, MA 02494 Editorial Editor-In-Chief: Colleen McDaniel
  3. According to dozens of sites reachable with a simple Google search, cruise ships are required to have a morgue. The logical conclusion is that having a morgue can provide a means for preserving the body to allow for post-mortem investigation into causes of death. A morgue that isn't working properly is just a room. We don't know how the relocation occurred. Discovery will be interesting. More important to the decomposition, however, is whether the ship contacted any coroner or funeral homes to determine what to do once they knew the morgue had failed. If they had, they likely would have learned that a body in a morgue is preserved at near freezing temperatures, and then they could have adjusted the chosen spot accordingly. That should have been adequate for the time remaining to avoid the severe decomposition alleged here. I suspect that once the body was in the body bag, no one ever checked it for condition and that they just assumed it would be ok. Who would even think to check it, or want to?
  4. Who cares about malice? Not alleged or necessary for negligence to exist that would establish liability (assuming jurisdiction). If you have a morgue, it should be working properly and a contingency plan should exist as it does for every other ship function.
  5. The suit says they should have inspected the morgue's condition prior to giving her what no doubt appeared to be equivalent options. On the merits, Celeb cannot win this if the morgue was not working and they made no effort to find out what they should do. They undertook to transport the body in a morgue designed for preservation which was relied upon by the wife, and if they did so negligently causing the severe decomp complained of, the liability is almost certain. (This does not address damages, or if she could file suit in Florida, or other issues possibly involving comtractual limitations, etc.). This is no different than an undertaker taking a body from a hospital for later burial, and leaving it it unchilled in the transportation ambulance for a week. It will settle if there is no legal bar causing outright dismissal. No defense attorney will want those pictures and descriptions going before a jury!
  6. I can't believe some people. Not folding is among the worst things about cruising. Seeing people who didn't fold before cruising is just a reminder of how the standards in cruising have fallen. Things get wrinkled and.... Oh, wait...luggage tags? I thought we were talking about clothes in the MDR....Never mind!
  7. When did they decide to limit FCCs to a one-year expiration? Ours from last summer has no expiration date. Just another kick in the shorts?
  8. Not applicable to US cruises. Still Miami Dade. Section 10(b)
  9. Make sure after clearing cookies you immediately close your browser and then restart your computer (or phone). Then open your browser to see if you can log in. The restarting of the computer dumps the cache that might be retaining information about any websites you have been in, and sometimes the cookies get reinstalled. I also use CCleaner on my PC, a free program that I run every time I close my desktop browser. It clears everything from your browsing session that your browser leaves open. Make sure if you get it that you understand the settings--I don't ever let it or anything else do registry cleaning!
  10. We have the same 2 similar choices for our Feb '24 Reflection. There is a difference apparently. If the descriptions can be believed, the less expensive one sails to the northern tip of Aruba, and includes viewing of a lighthouse. The other one goes on the southern and west coasts, and seems to highlight beaches. Both are 2 hrs. So, simply a matter of what you think might be more interesting to see. I know there are a lot of hotels on the coast going north. We never saw the southern coast. You might want to look at some maps of each area. We haven't chosen anything yet!
  11. @GreenDice One thing that might affect your costs would be if you get lots of spam emails or texts. No good way to avoid those if you are connected on board. We get dozens a day!
  12. The Reflection Feb 3 itinerary has always had Aruba Feb 6, Bonaire Feb 7, and Curacao Feb 8. The booking page still shows this schedule. However, Woodwind snorkel informed me they are informed that Bonaire and Curacao have been switched. I checked Cruisemapper, Bonaireinfo, Celeb, and Cruisedig.com. The first 2 show the switch, and the latter 2 show the original schedule. Cruisemapper has the Rhapsody of the Seas in port in Bonaire on Feb 7, so I am inclined to think that this source is more reliable and that the "1 ship in port" rule bumped us back a day. I am wondering, though, since we know Celeb does not update until late (like the March '24 cancellations of Bonaire discussed elsewhere), where do you all go for reliable information?
  13. Reflection on Feb 3, 2024, has apparently reversed the days in Bonaire and Curacao. Woodwind notified us they show Reflection on Feb 8 from 7 to 4, but Celeb still shows Feb 7th from 8 to 8. I checked BonaireInfo and Cruisemapper and both show Feb 8. Apparently conflicted with Rhapsody of the Seas on Feb 7. The shorter time means we won't be doing the Woodwind after all b/c we have a couple other things we want to do.
  14. @sanger727 But reading all those posts on the previous page makes it sound like TAs never make mistakes!
  15. I spent my career as a lawyer and a judge, and I can assure that Celebrity has not reserved the right to change prices willy nilly for any reason, as your first post said. Your new post--that they can correct errors--is correct. The Silhouette initial prices were all demonstrated by a diligent poster to be errors (including a chart of how aberrant they were), and were all corrected and cruisers notified soon after booking. They all were given the opportunity to cancel with no penalty. I suspect the threads were removed because of baseless accusations of fraudulent repricing. Problems like the OP has here are clearly mistakes, and not an effort to arbitrarily extort one cruiser's money. That being said, it is definitely horrendous for any business not to have an immediate path for someone in OP's predicament to get it fixed. And the errors should be cleared up with respect and some type of compensation. Most importantly, they should fix the causes.
  16. I certainly have been sympathetic to many of your concerns, but bad-passenger anecdotes are not evidence of a change in corporate targeting strategy. The most obnoxious people I have met on cruises looked precisely like several of the refined, elegant, well-heeled wine-sippers in those pictures. They were arrogant, imperious, and rude to staff and customers. But I wouldn't have concluded anything about RCL or Celebrity. I would have concluded that some people are just jerks but it is unfair to generalize about others who might look like them. Didn't you learn that as a kid?
  17. Good question. Not many people can reboard a TransAtlantic sailing involving Australia, Tahiti, New Zealand or Hawaii. A different question: Does it actually matter? Will you take different precautions if a test is required? I probably would be more cautious about crowds, but most people here seem more resigned to it all than I am.
  18. @the mistral wind Simplified: 1. You can bring 2 bottles of wine per person (at most 4 per stateroom). 2. No corkage fee if you drink in your staeroom. Get glasses from a bar or have your attendant bring them. They can take them away, too. 3. No corkage fee if you pour your own in your room and take the glasses with you to dinner or anywhere else. They don't care in the dining rooms where you got the wine. 4. Don't worry about doing it wrong. Just keep the bottle in your room and you will be like 1000 other people on board!
  19. Do you mean 1st and 3rd of the rear-facing ones, counting to the back? So 2nd and 4th for the front-facing ones?
  20. I remember posts from you that were humorous. Grumpy is ill-suited.
  21. Checked the Reflection menu on the app for both end of March this year and our actual cruise next Feb3. Both show prime rib (night 4) and lobster (5). They were missing a few weeks ago. Fingers crossed.
  22. The tap water on one cruise reminded us of water from lots of communities near an ocean where they use desalination plants, but not quite as salty.
