Actually, from reports I have seen, when you add on drink costs, speciality meal costs etc, the price difference is less than it appears.
Having said that, Vamps with her spread sheets, will have taken all of that into account.

P&O do offer drinks packages at £39.95 pppd (max 15 alcoholic drinks per day) but I do not feel that is good value, given that the price of drinks is not that bad.
However, whilst the drink prices may be the same as you would oay in a provincual pub down South, they are considerably more than the prices I pay here "up North"!
The trouble is that everyone else goes there as well ! At times it looks like a refugee camp.
We prefer to stay in our cabin and watch the storm, without being surrounded by hundreds of other cruisers.
Tne medicines you mentioned should only be prescribed for the most serious cases. They would only be presrcribed if the medical team on board have a patient's full medical history, and there is absolutely no way that the patient can be treated ashore.

As for the swab issue. Millions of us have had umpteen swabs taken over the last few years.
What are you going to do if a swab is required ? Forfeit your cruise?
Which is what various UK lines do (Saga, P&O, Marella etc) although gratuuties are not exactly "outlawed".
Nice not to have all the angst that so many American cruisers have about who to tip, when to tip, how much to tip etc.
We have found that at that time of year, especially for the first half of the transit, that "shady" means downright chilly, and the balcony is too cold to use.
