  1. Quantum class has Royal Suite class that for Sky Class would include free wifi, Coastal Kitchen and access to the Suite lounge. The SL on Quantum class does not have the 11-11 free beer/wine/water that Oasis class has but it does have free cocktails during happy hour and also the coffee machine that some people love. CK access for Sky Class includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, with reservations recommended for dinner. No reservations needed for breakfast or lunch.
  2. Definitely agree. With a table for 8, I would absolutely go to the MDR and confirm that there is a table for 8 assigned. I would also go check out the location.
  3. There is lots of information on the Royal Caribbean website including the map of the island which will help you choose. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/cococay-cruises Map https://www.royalcaribbean.com/content/dam/royal/resources/pdf/perfect-day-at-cococay-wayfinding-map.pdf There are at least five different beaches and lots of free food available on the island. The Oasis Lagoon pool is free to all to use and is huge. One end is zero entry so you can walk right into it if anyone has mobility issues. There is a free waterpark area for the kids too, so no need to pay for the thrill park.
  4. Please post your experience after you sail as we are looking into this for October also. We recently did a similar thing in Seattle, just took a commuter ferry roundtrip for cheap money instead of an expensive harbor cruise and really enjoyed it. If the weather is right, we definitely want to do the mail run.
  5. Now I understand. 🙂 I am not sure if the waiters are doing both traditional dining and MTD tables in their section as we have only sailed in suites since the change and have eaten in Coastal Kitchen. When MTD was on a separate deck or separate section of the dining room, those waiters only dealt with MTD. With the later start time of MTD, those waiters could be doing side work, like filling roll baskets, butter dishes, sugar bowls etc.
  6. I don't understand what you are asking. The waiters work in the MDR and at times in the WJ. Is that what you are asking?
  7. That would be difficult for the waiters because of how they go get food in the galley. The waiters try to take orders for their tables all at once so they stand in line in the galley once for each course. Going back and forth for just one tables food slows down service for the other tables that waiter is taking care of, just as one table arriving late throws off the flow for the other tables in the waiter's section.
  8. They have totaled messed up MTD with the later start time. They need to go back to how it was in the past.
  9. There is definitely ice in that picture! Have you ever looked at the ice you pass? The majority of the iceberg is under the water. You have no idea how big that large piece of ice is and what damage it can cause. Radiance wouldn't have gone further in either.
  10. We did Quantum last year to Alaska and would do it again if the price was right. We didn't get very close to the glacier because of all the ice in the fjord. It is very common for ships not to be able to get close to the glaciers, not just Quantum. Sorry you were disappointed but it is best to read reviews from prior sailings to see what others have experienced on the same itinerary.
  11. Coffee and continental breakfast is free on all ships as far as I know. Just fill out the hang tag and put it on your doorknob the night before. Which ship isn't offering it anymore?
  12. We see sharks there pretty much every time we go. They are lemon sharks, also known as nurse sharks. They are small and have never come near me but I do go the other way when I see them. They are typically in the area of South Beach and off of the over water cabanas. We have also seen very large stingrays. They like to sun near the edge of the water and bury themselves in the sand just a bit, so you can only see their outline. In May when we were at Coco Cay, we were out in the water by the floating bar at South Beach and saw four stingray. There is a sandbar out there that barely has water over it when the tide is low and they were cruising only that.
  13. Beef tenderloin has always been my favorite. I don't usually order pasta, will have to check it out. We will be in the WJ if I can't get us into main seating though. I am hoping once final payment happens next week, that I will get off the waitlist.
  14. I haven't tried ordering from the MDR while in CK. I like some of what is on the new MDR menus but have only eaten in CK since they were introduced. Our next cruise is on a ship with no CK, so we will see what we think of them.
  15. They will bring stuff out to the kids right away, whether it is a fruit cup or pastry at breakfast or rolls at lunch, they will get them something quickly. You can also go over to the suite lounge and get something for them, I have seen many families do that. They will also change things if a particular meal doesn't come with what you want. I have even ordered off the kids menu at lunch when I don't see something I like. My DH will ask for double shrimp on an entrée because there are only a few typically. We also will get the lobster tail with no sauce and a baked potato. Oasis had decent sized lobster tails in May when we sailed. My DH got both the lobster tail entrée that night and the scallops. CK was crazy busy the week we were just on in May though, breakfast had a wait some mornings. We found if we went within a half hour of opening, we were okay though.
  16. Coastal Kitchen does not do to go, it is a sit down restaurant. I have seen them pack up stuff to go for a family of four. Mom had come with one child in a carriage and ordered for the whole family. Dad was supposed to come with other child once food arrived. Food came and young child went ballistic. Mom started combining plates and manager came over with covers and she loaded it all in the carriage and left. We saw and heard everything because we were beside them. Mom was embarrassed, we told her no worries, we all have bad days. CK does not do room service either. There is typically food in the suite lounge all day. There’s continental breakfast type stuff in the morning, cookies and sometimes little sandwiches at lunch, and hot and cold snacks during happy hours.
  17. Floats are not allowed in the pool on Coco Cay, though we saw two babies in fairly large floats with sun shades in the pool when we were there in May.
  18. Look at your local stores for inflatable pool noodles. We got some years ago on a CVS end of summer clearance sale for 25 cents. Takes no time for my DH to blow up two of them and then we just squish them and roll them up to get the air out. The two noodles we bring fit easily in a quart sized ziploc bag.
  19. @The Fun Researcher Thanks for posting an update. I was wondering if you all had cancelled or what. Gorgeous pictures. I am sorry your Mom wasn't able to go, but I was very surprised that the Doctor had originally said she could. I hope you all can do another cruise to Alaska next year or sometime soon, once your Mom is completely healed. 🙂
  20. Chocolate as "an addition" doesn't pay the rent either.
