Preliminary Alaska Cruise Questions - RCL

There are no Oasis class ships sailing to Alaska. Quantum and Ovation are Quantum class ships which are built for a colder itinerary. -
First cruise to Alaska questions.

Why can't you sit on your balcony for long? We used ours for hours. -
We have found that the cleaning people are wonderful about making sure you have anything you need. We just ask when we see them in the hallway instead of going to the front desk. We were at a family wedding recently and most stayed either two or three nights. They swapped out towels for us and gave me more coffee and cups for my Mom who uses the coffee pot in a hotel room. Yuck!

Ovation and Quantum have two indoor pools. There is a family pool with a retractable roof and also a pool in the Solarium. -

First cruise to Alaska questions.
reallyitsmema replied to dvpaintboy's topic in Royal Caribbean International
We have sailed Alaska twice in May and absolutely used our balcony. We went in 2018 and 2022. Last year it was 80 when we were in Skagway and 70 when we were in Juneau. We also had warm days on our 2018 cruise. I would suggest bringing layers and pack at least one pair of shorts. We did not bring winter coats and never regretted not having them. Coldest days were when we went to the glacier and even then we wore a long sleeve shirt, polar fleece 3/4 zip and a waterproof shell over it. -
4th of July Independence Chaos

Ships sail over capacity all the time, it is not rare at all. You only really hear about it when they are close to their maximum guest total allowed. -
Questions about pre-cruise hotels in Seattle
reallyitsmema replied to thethreeofus's topic in West Coast Departures
We have stayed at the Marriott Seattle Waterfront a few times. We like the location as it looks out over the Sound and we can walk to many things downtown. It is right near Pier 66 which is used by NCL. You can sign up for a shuttle to the port for $10pp. -
Yes, the view is really nice from River House. The other restaurants I had said are in that block of buildings too and have great views too. We were watching a couple of harbor seals playing when we were there last. Not sure we will be able to go to the Toothy Moose when we are in Halifax in a few months. We have been to Halifax a bunch of times, so likely will just get off the ship and decide what we do depending on the weather. We are going to Sydney also, which is a new port for us. We have rented a car and are going to do some of the Cabot Trail. We don't like the crowded bus excursions, so will just do our own thing.

@dpostman Update on Portsmouth information. Spoke to my son, he said they had dinner at The River House which was also lots of seafood but they did a decent burger lol They moved on to the Thirsty Moose Taphouse which has over 100 tap lines and entertainment some nights. Lots of local brews. 603 brewery is a favorite of this household.

Here is the cruise schedule for Port Canaveral. Looks like you are coming in on a port of call on Oasis and you are at terminal 6 which is NOT walkable to Grills. You are on the other side of the channel. https://www.portcanaveral.com/getattachment/Cruise/Cruise-Lines-Schedules/CPA-Website-Schedule-Apr-Sep-2023.pdf.aspx?lang=en-US

Crown & Anchor discount
reallyitsmema replied to Moon Orchid's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Read the terms of the sale and make sure it is combinable with the C&A discount. If it is, call and have them price the cruise for you. A cruise I booked recently kept adding an instant savings of $100 when my C&A discount is higher than that. I just called and had C&A book it for me and I got the better discount applied. -
Another weird question about Alaska cruisetours
reallyitsmema replied to sadiwest's topic in Royal Caribbean International
We flew United when we did Alaska on Radiance with a cruise tour. I didn't want to fly on regional jets, so was careful about the Alaska Air flights. We flew BOS to DEN to ANC. We did two days on our own in and around the Anchorage area before flying on Alaska Air from ANC to FAI since our cruise tour started in Fairbanks. -
Another weird question about Alaska cruisetours
reallyitsmema replied to sadiwest's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Which cruisetour are you taking? Only one of the cruisetours doesn't have an A and B version listed on the cruisetour site. There is one tour that is offered in 2023 and not 2024 though. https://www.royalcaribbeancruisetours.com/cruisetours/alaska/ -
Black Rabbit looks like a wonderful place for a birthday dinner! As far as Portsmouth, I will have to ask my son where he met all his cousins and my siblings for drinks and dinner while my DH and I were away. I know it wasn't a seafood place because my son doesn't eat seafood. 😄 I know there is a brewery in downtown Portsmouth that they went to but I am not sure if that is where they ate. I am in Massachusetts but I go up to New Hampshire every week to see my Mom. I take her to Warren's Lobster House in Kittery a lot. It is nothing fancy but it has really good fried clams and a gigantic salad bar. Lots of old ladies there at lunch. 🙂 We also go to Robert's Maine Grill in Kittery. Again, mostly seafood but they are known for their oysters and have an oyster menu that changes daily. I don't eat oysters but they bring them in daily from all over Maine.

There are a lot of great restaurants and bars in Portsmouth. I have been to Martingale Wharf a few times and it was excellent. We sat outside and it was wonderful. https://www.martingalewharf.com/ Surf is right beside it. We haven't been to that one but have been to another one of their locations and it was very good too. https://www.surfseafood.com/portsmouth
