  1. I do carry a mobile phone, but for something like the Amsterdam Card, or the Oslo Pass which I will be getting for next year's cruise, I prefer not to have to pull out my phone each time. A simple card to me is much easier. Unfortunately, the Copenhagen Card, in its 2 options, has gone to digital only.
  2. I'm sure that you can just get a taxi at the train station to take you to your hotel.
  3. I'm grateful that I'm not the original OP (or doing this transfer). Just following this thread has made me feel like a ping pong ball!
  4. If Pond Inlet is still iced up (see post 1) you too might be leaving from Iqaluit.
  5. I will be on the Silver Dawn next June, and I'd love some advice on excursions. What excursion did you do in Geiranger? I'm torn between 2 excursions (the included 1. "Panoramic Mt. Dalsnibba & Eagle Road" and the extra cost 2. "The Magnificent Geirangerfjord"). I'm wondering whether I will regret not doing the Eagle Road if I take the longer tour. Option 2 does not go to Eagle Road, but it does a longer drive to Djupvatn Lake, Stryn Road and the Hjelle valley. Both go to Mt Dalsnibba and the Flydal Gorge viewpoint. What excursion did you take in Flåm? Here I am torn between 3 of the excursions. I think that I really want to do the Flåm railway, but even some of the other excursions sound interesting. The choices are 1. "The Iconic Flåm Railway" which just goes up and back with a stop for coffee tea and waffles, 2. "Næroyfjord Cruise & UNESCO Sognefjord" which includes a cruise from Flåm to Gudvagen up the Næroyfjord which we won't be sailing on the cruise, a drive to the Stegastein viewpoint returning to Flåm. I like this one, but it doesn't include the Flåm railway, which I have wanted to do since I started looking at a Norwegian cruise. The third choice is 3."Complete Sognefjord Experience" which takes the train to Myrdal, then connects to the Oslo-Bergen railway for a one hour ride to Voss, a drive to Tvindefossen waterfall and back to Flåm. Options 1 and 3 do the train, but not the Stegastein viewpoint or the Næroyfjord, 2 would give me a chance to see the Stegastein viewpoint and the Næroyfjord which we won't be sailing, and 3 gets more views from a different train. Any help you (or anyone else) has would be much appreciated. Option 2 is currently scheduled to start at 8 and take 4.75 hours which would get me back (maybe) by 1. We don't leave until 6, so I should be able to take the train in the afternoon and fulfill that wish. Does anyone have any comments on that combination?
  6. I think you meant Iqaluit, which is the capital of Nunavut. 🇨🇦 The flag of Nunavut.
  7. I did a balloon ride in the Masai Mara. I was so nervous before, but the ride itself was INCREDIBLE. I don't know what I was afraid of. It was smooth and the views were amazing. I highly recommend trying it at least once, somewhere.
  8. I wouldn't depend on American Express alone.
  9. It didn’t used to be. And in the past I was able to get deals to pay for one week and stay up to 4. I almost never go away for less than 2 weeks.
  10. Because a fixed rate taxi to where I live is currently $58 plus tip (a bit cheaper to the airport) and as a senior TTC plus UP express is no more than $8.45 each way, and less if I make one extra change to get on/off at Dundas West. As long as I have time, I see no reason to waste money.
  11. They worked for me. (I’m using VPN and a Canadian server.)
  12. I used to use the valet service (many years ago) but I got very frustrated waiting a long time for the shuttle. Since then, if I don’t use UP Express, I use the Value Park garage, with the monorail shuttle. I did notice however that it was getting very expensive, and the discount for booking in advance was getting smaller. I will only do it for a fairly short trip.
  13. Try using the report function (an option from the 3 dots at the top right) of the first post in the thread to ask that it be unpinned. In addition, it wouldn’t hurt to state why.
  14. Generally, I agree with you. That said, following advice from a local, I just booked a 1 hour 40 minute connection in Copenhagen (departing from Toronto end destination Oslo). I do know that there are a number more flights after the one I booked to get to Oslo, so I'm not too worried.
  15. This means that if you arrive in Sydney (the state of your arrival), you need to comply with the rules in New South Wales. If you are also going to Perth for example, you also need to comply with the rules for Western Australia. It makes no mention of any Canadian requirements.
  16. Just a minor correction. You are cruising UP the Rhine.
  17. Which port? There are multiple locations for Edinburgh.
  18. If the “free” walking tour is booked off a website, the tour guide generally has to pay the website to list it, so they actually lose money if you don’t tip. This is different from tours that are really operated by volunteers from a museum for example.
  19. When was your visit? I was in London in 2019 (pre-Covid) and I think the only cash I used was for my London Walks tours. (Highly recommended by the way.) Even they are now accepting credit cards.
  20. That bothers me. I'm not really a morning person. I wouldn't have much of a problem with 9 am tours, but to have breakfast before a 7 am tour that is only 3 hours in a place where we are in port from 7 am to 5 pm is crazy, and I really can't go out without breakfast. Thanks for your comments.
  21. I booked this sailing over a year ago. When I first looked at excursions, almost all seemed to have morning versions that began at 10 am and afternoon versions that began at 2 pm. I realized that they would probably change because in some cases the times were outside the ship's time in port. I chose a few morning and a few afternoon excursions, as well as a morning excursion in Bergen with an afternoon optional seaplane flight. Then one day, all of the excursion start times were changed. In virtually every case, the excursion shows as beginning right at the beginning of the time in port, usually at 8 am but in one case at 7 am and a few at 9 am. None, except for the trip to North Cape are later than that. And, for Bergen, the morning excursion and the seaplane flight are shown at the same time. Has anyone else seen this issue? I'm very frustrated by it, and don't know what to do. I'm sure that these times don't make sense, but I don't know when they might be corrected. Thanks for your help.
  22. I have sailed solo with 3 different companies; Uniworld, Ama and Avalon, and never felt uncomfortable. That said, NYE is very much a couples thing; I don’t know how that would work.
  23. I booked my upcoming cruise because it goes where I want it to go (2 deep fjords, Bergen, Alesund, the Lofoten Islands and the North Cape). It is also of a size that I can deal with, I would never cruise with more passengers than this. The dress code will be a nuisance, but I will comply as much as I can.
