Interesting Wine Corkage Charges By Cruise Lines
VMax1700 replied to mcrcruiser's topic in Holland America Line
The definition of 'wine' is irrelevant when the product in question is 'beer'. 2.5%ABV Beer is not permitted to be taken onboard. -
It's a long wait if the new day starts at 6am as has been mentioned on a few threads 🤣🤣
-
Obviously HAL are concerned that pax will go over their 15 drinks limit with HIA and are trying to protect both cruisers from the expense and the Front Desk staff from the abuse of those who have inadvertently gone over the 15 limit. 😉 (is there a 'tongue firmly in cheek' emoji?)

Canaletto shutting down (temporarily?) on Rotterdam March 8
VMax1700 replied to Turtles06's topic in Holland America Line
A pseudo Italian restaurant with no Risotto?? I have just looked back at a couple of my 'Live from' threads and there was a Lump Crab Risotto offered. What happened to it? -
I doubt that there is a database containing any reliable information, however news items such as this https://www.cruisehive.com/worlds-largest-cruise-ship-oversold-for-spring-break/95664 give an indication of the booking levels. Don't forget when someone booked this cruise, the ship was half full, now its oversold, so the data points of booking time and sailing time can be poles apart.

It's called gambling. Was there a guaranteed payout? Would this be run by the casino? Some you lose, most you lose.

Enjoy Rotterdam, she is a beautiful ship.

Interesting Wine Corkage Charges By Cruise Lines
VMax1700 replied to mcrcruiser's topic in Holland America Line
This is either incorrect information or a poorly composed sentence/paragraph(?) (not sure which it is!) Currently a 'reasonable quantity' of wine may be taken onboard subject to corkage charge. The 2020 'Know Before You Go' (downloaded in September 2021) still offers one bottle of wine or champagne without corkage (for stateroom consumption) per guest aged over 21 and $18 per bottle subsequently. Yes, it was $15 previously, but what is the point of this thread? You select your cruise and are subject to the cruise lines regulations. If you don't like the regulations then change your cruise line OR use your time machine to go back to when it was the price you liked. -
Thanks very much - we prefer the Norf of Engerland over the souf. 😁 Do remember that Dun Laoghaire is a tender port whereas Cobh is docked.

Dun Laoghaire port and travel to Dublin

Yes you would be better travelling on to Connolly Station. There will be taxis available outside the door. -
Yes, out at the seaview pool area.

Duty Free Alcohol for Iceland....worth it???
VMax1700 replied to SakeDad's topic in Iceland and Greenland
absolutely! -
I have posted the response I received from Jameson. Hello Colin, Many thanks for your e-mail. Unfortunately we do not run a shuttle service however I am happy to advise that Midleton is well serviced by public transport from Cork city centre. The most up to date information on bus services can be found at www.buseireann.ie with the nearest stop being Brewery house / Distillery walk which is located directly at the top of the street leading down to our visitor centre. Alternatively Midleton train station is located 1.5 km from us which takes approximately 20 minutes to walk and the schedule can be found via www.irishrail.ie I am also happy to recommend a local taxi service Midleton Cabs Telephone (021) 4613789 and I would strongly advise prebooking. Please do let me know if I can be of any further assistance. A very warm welcome awaits! Kind regards, John Paul John Paul Healy Reservations Assistant

Did you have the Premium level? I have found that wifi calling only works with the premium level internet package.

Discounts at specialty dining restaurants
VMax1700 replied to rlujhf's topic in Holland America Line
With the Have It All promo giving free dining in the Speciality restaurants, it is very difficult to book additional seats, even at full price. -
They are basically opposite directions! It would be possible by train, but a lot of back and forward, also the distillery is quite a distance from the train station in Midleton. Pre Covid there was a bus from the dockside to the distillery which was run by Butler's buses who are well recommended on this board. I have emailed the distillery to see if they will have any other options this year. Here is the link to Butlers https://www.ecoach.ie/cobh-jameson-shore-tour.php It would be just about possible to get into Cork city after the tour returns to Cobh, but time would be short and you would be returning on the commuter train during peak travel which could be uncomfortable.

Complimentary beverages are in the Lido and are coffee, ice tea, water, plus hot water and various tea bags. During lunch and dinner the servers additionally offer lemonade.
-
We have dinner most nights in Lido. DW likes to eat early and I like 'medium to late', so we go early and I will nibble a starter (or two) with a glass of wine (or three) and DW will be selecting her desert by the time I am meandering up to select my mains. We find it suits our different eating requirements very well and much better that MDR service for us.

It will also work onboard, but will be horrendously expensive. It is provided by 'Cellular at Sea'. If you purchase the ship's wifi you will be able to make calls using either 'WiFi Calling (if your phone is so enabled) or 'WhatsApp'. We have used both successfully. Calls are inclined to drop sometimes depending on your location and how many are using the ships internet at the time. One package can be used by two people but not simultaneously. One needs to logoff for the second person to use the connection.

Anyone care to post about lectures? (or lack of)

There are taxis waiting on the quayside at the ship and also in the town centre (300 yds). For your banking business, there is an AIB in Cobh, just opposite the quay, https://aib.ie/branches/cork/cobh
