Wonderful Copenhagen

Recommended Posts

The Copenhagen Card now comes in 48-hour. That is what we will be getting since we have two half days and a full day. I think it is cheaper than buying two 24-hour cards although two 24-hour cards would give you more flexibility regarding timing. Our 48-hour cards will expire within 48 hours of taking the train from the airport so need to take the bus to the pier within 48 hours.

I am not talking about buying the Copenhagen Card. That is much different from the city pass. The Copenhagen Card is much more expensive as it includes admissions to many attractions, while the city pass is just for transportation

If you want to know what the royal guard is during in the winther then took a look at this photo gallery.

Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos with us, Danish viking. It looks quite cold there in Copenhagen especially through the eyes of a Floridian! I must say that I am quite happy to be visiting in June! ;)

Do the guards get paid well or it a status thing or what? Bad enough to go out in it between my car and the store, but to stand in it like they do? Whooo

They do not get payed well, when I was in the army 6 years ago (telegraph troops I think its called in english) I got something like 8.000 after taxes.

The most normal here in Denmark is 14.000-16-000 after taxes.

If you write a contract with the army (to go on missions and such) you will get more and when you are in Iraq or Afghanistan or somewhere else then its tax free.

I know that many of you have talked about getting to the airport in time for an transatlantic flight.

From this winter the low cost carrier Norwegian will fly twice weekly from CPH to Fort Lauderdale.

The departures is the interesting bit, they first fly 14:45 so there is plenty of time to get to the airport.

They will fly on Fridays and Mondays.

But its a low cost carrier so they will charge you extra for luggage  and for meals.

Apparently New York (and Bangkok) will be added in February 2014.

But flying transatlantic with a no frills airline, I don't think so. :D

What wonderful information in this thread, thank you!

Where is the best place to get a map of the city, would love to have it before I go. Can anyone recommend one that they have used.

Also, if going to the main attractions, sounds like the Copenhagen Card is the best option. Is it best to get it at the airport when I first arrive?

@ galelynn

I'm not sure about cash, perhaps only euro and Norwegian and Swedish kroners and pounds.

but they will most surely accept your credit card

@ puggymom

The tourist information at wonderfulcopenhagen.dk will sends you a map and other stuff if you ask them on their email.

You will safe some money by purchasing the Copenhagen Card at the airport but remember that they will close at 11 pm at the service center and train ticket counter.

Danish Viking, thank you so much for being so willing to help! My DD and I will be in Copenhagen on a Sunday the end of June. We would like to visit one of the castles as I just saw a travel show in which they toured Frederiksborg Castle and that looked very appealing. At this point, I'm thinking that's the one we'd want to visit.

Can you please tell me the easiest way to get from our ship to the train station (which one?) and if that's the best way to get there? Also, how long will it take to get there and about how long do you think it will take for the train rides to and from and to tour the castle? Do we take a tour of the castle or is exploring on your own?

Thanks so much!

Thank you everyone for a lot of great information.

My mother-in-law, who can't walk a long distance, and I will arrive at the Freeport on Saturday May 4. We will visit family in Birkerod and do some sightseeing for a week. We will have luggage and a wheelchair. Can we take public transportation or a taxi or a rental car? Would I need an International Driving Permit in Denmark? Thanks.

Depending on the terminal you are gonna use then you can either walk to Østerport Station from Langeliniekaj or Nordre Toldbod.

At Østerport you will have to purchase the 24 hour transportation card.

Here is the weekend schedule for the S-train, you need to get to Hillerød (line B/green line).

Or from the Freeport Terminal to Nordhavn station-

From here you can take bus 301 or 302 Frederiksborg Slot

Bus 301 towards Ullerød (Ålholmparken) or Allekredsen

On the way bach these are the timetables.

I think that all driving licenses are legal in Denmark but there isn´t any car hiring companies at the port that i know of.

But there is two opposide or close to Vesterport Station in central Copenhagen.

http://www.hertzdk.dk/rentacar/location/index.jsp?targetPage=locationDetailsView.jsp&eoag=CPHC60&resAgnt=&locType=pUp

For the S-train you need to use the green line (Line B) towards Hillerød and getr of at Birkerød

This is the weekend schedule for the S-trains.

http://www.dsb.dk/global/pdf/koereplaner/s-tog/2013/weekend%20dag%232.pdf

You will have to walk 15 minutes to Nordhavn Station because i don´t think that any taxi drivers on a busy cruise day will take that short trip.

Alternatively ask the driver to take you to Østerport station instead.

At either Østerport or Nordhavn you buy a 2 zone klippekort that costs 150 DKK and stamp it 7 times (out of 10) it will cover transportation to both of you for the 7 zones you both need.

Then you have 3 zones in spare that you can use by yourself or give away to you family. :D

When I look at the Freeport terminal with Google Earth it looks like there is a blue line on the sidewalk. Does this blue line lead to the bus stop?

Does bus#26 usually run more frequently then every 20 minutes during the summer?

Thanks again for all your time and effort.

Hi SoBaycruiser,

The blue line does not go all the way to the bus stop. It begins at the building (the one on with all the skylights on the roof) as you enter the port and goes to the pier (at least that is the way it was in 2011). :)

The bus stop (#26) is on Sundkrogsgade, just around the corner (west) from where the blue line begins/ends (skylight building).

Thanks...yes, it looked like it just petered out with an arrow at the corner at Sunkrogsgade but I I couldn't see a bus stop structure and no more blue line.

I appreciate the confirmation of the blue line situation.

As you guys says the bus stop is called Kalkbrænderihavnsgade but is located around the corner at Sundkrogsgade just before the entrance to the Freeport area.

I'm not on a map right now but I believe the blue line starts at the gates to the Freeport area.

This I also need to check up on because at one point the blue line started at Nordhavn station so maybe the airphoto on google maps are outdated or else the line line just lead people around the Freeport area.

Here it is from Kongens Nytorv in central Copenhagen

Only departures marked with C and D departs for the Freeport Terminal so the last one from Kongens Nytorv is at 18:36.
