Good evening from the Sapphire Princess. We just cleared the breakwater and are headed to Hawaii. Today shall we say was rather interesting. So much so, we almost had to cancel the cruise for medical reasons. Luck was on our side however and we were able to sail. We didn’t board till about 3:20 for a 4:00pm sailaway:eek: Due to the late arrival, I can’t really comment too much on embarkation. We basically walked right onto the ship. We are in a Vista suite (D738). Our cabin steward Fernando from the Philippines seems nice. I absolutely love our balcony even with the “beam.”

I will post more later as to the entertainment, ships officers, etc when we get back from dinner. We chose Sabatinis for our first night dining. So far so good…..:):)

So that is why you weren't in your cabin at 2:00. We missed seeing you while we were on for the BVE today :(

Good evening from the Sapphire Princess.

Bob

There have been several threads saying that many Sapphire cruises have been cancelled from late December through the announced schedule that ends in May, 2014.

Can you ask the Future Cruise Consultant what the Sapphire will be doing instead of all those cruises?

Thanks

She was with us at the start of the BVE today and she said that she didn't know as of yet. Someone who works for Princess reservations was doing the BVE also and she said she didn't know yet either.

The last thing you need is extra stress and issues the day of embarkation. Glad you made it and now you have 4 days to unwind. We were also in the Vista Suite a deck below you and after a while you won't even think about the dreaded beam. :) I honestly felt like I could stay on the balcony all day and we're still going through serious suite withdrawal a month later. We also really miss the crew in Sabatini's..... wanted to bring them home with us. Have a great time!!!!

Smooth Sailing.... Dave

I envy all of you who just left on the Sapphire Princess yesterday. My DH and I just got off the Sapphire yesterday morning. Fabulous cruise, very relaxing! Weather on all four Hawaiian islands was sunny and beautiful, in the low to mid 70's mostly. I'll be posting a few thoughts/experiences on my 2/23/13 thread so my fellow cruisers and I can reminisce a bit. I miss them already!

Have a wonderful journey!

Aloha,

Scarlett

Good evening from the Sapphire Princess. Today is our first full sea day as we head toward Hilo. Today was a wonderful day just relaxing and doing what you please. I had breakfast in Sabatinis which was fantastic. Service was off the charts good and the eggs benedict was very tasty. Our meet and greet was today in Skywalkers. It was very well attended and was a nice venue to put faces to our fellow on line friends. After the Meet and Greet was over, DW and I walked around the Piazza for a bit and had lunch at Alfredo’s. This was my first time trying Alfredo’s. I thought the pizza was very tasty. Service was good as well. After lunch, we went back to the cabin and hung out. In about an hour we’ll head to dinner. Today is our first time trying g the MDR for late seating traditional. After dinner DW and her sister & Hubby might go to production show. I might go to the casino after I walk a few laps around the promenade deck.

Movie entertainment today was as follows. Splash was shown on Mutts at 10:00am. There was a Billy Joel concert on Mutts at 12:00pm. The afternoon Mutts movie was back to the future at 3:00pm. The evening movie offering was picture perfect at 7:00pm & 10:00pm.

Musical offerings today were midday melodies with the resident musicians from 12:30pm to 2:45pm in the Piazza. The Piazza also hosted a Jazz Café with the Sapphire trio at 3:00pm. Evening melodies with the resident musicians from 8:00pm to 9:00pm. Pastime Duo will perform in the Wheelhouse bar from 6:15 & 7:45. The Randy Heddon Quartet will be performing in the Wheelhouse from 9:00pm onwards. Tonight’s production show is a performance by the Multi-instrumentalist Kuba Kawnik at 7:00pm, 8:15pm, and 10:15pm.

The Ships officers are as follows:

1. Captain - Nicholas Carltton

2. Staff Captain – Darius Balana

3. Chief Engineer - David Morrison

4. Hotel general Manager – Melania Parnisani

5. Cruise Director – Billy Hygate

6. Senior Doctor – Reuben Smith

7. Customer Services Director – Steven Ross

8. Food & Beverage Director – Roque Pobledor

9. Staff Engineer Officer – Giuseppe Leotta

10. Staff Electro Technical Officer – Nelson RibRebeiro

11. Executive Housekeeper – Joselito Diaz

12. Executive Chef – Carlo Persia

13. Maitre d’Hotel – Jean-Francois Ferat

Lastly, the Sapphire Princess is very clean and the crew seems to be very friendly. Tomorrow I might try the HC so I can report on how it holds up against the other ships. I also hope to try the gym tomorrow.

Take Care All....:):):)

DW had a medical issue that almost caused to miss the cruise. She improved enough, litterally at the last minute, that allowed us to go.....:):):)

Take care of her Bob. She probably will benefit from the rest & may not be up for all of the activities! Breakfast in bed perhaps & maybe an ultimate balcony ;) dinner might be called for. Both of you - take it easy. Sea days can be a gift!

Wow! Not sure I would have risked four days in the middle of the ocean. Hope your DW stays in good health and no more medical issues.

Good morning from the Sapphire Princess. Today is our second full sea day as we head to beautiful Hawaii. I just got done with a quick workout in the gym. The gym was a little different than the gyms on my recently traveled Princess ships (Emerald/Ruby). What I mean by different is while both gyms are half-moon shaped, on the Emerald/Ruby the hardwood floor is in the middle to the rear of all the equipment. The Sapphire gym has a divider in the middle. To the left is the hardwood floor with additional treadmills. One interesting thing I noticed about the elliptical machines is there might be an issue using them for people of any height. Reason being is the ceiling is rather low. I noted that all the cardio equipment with the exception of one treadmill and one elliptical machine appeared to be in good working order.

Today is our first formal night. I’m looking forward to getting dressed up as soon as I solve an issue with my rental tux. Being that our room steward is top notch, I’m sure the issue will be fixed. For the morning, not sure what I’ll do. I might just play it by ear.

Today’s movie offerings are Princess Ka’iulani (MUTS) at 10:00am; Hawaii (MUTS) above and beneath at 11:45am; Billy Joel concert (MUTS) at 12:45pm; Bon Jovi (MUTS) at 2:00pm; Mamma Mia (MUTS) at 3:00pm; Take that Live concert (MUTS) at 5:00pm; The Bourne Legacy (MUTS) at 7:00pm.

They do have a Hawaiian cultural program on board. There are also numerous Scholarship at sea lectures on a number of subjects.

Well, that’s all for now. Off to decide what I want for breakfast after I track down our room steward regarding the tux issue. I’ll check back later to see if anyone has any questions.

Take Care All…..:):):)

Bob: Just a reminder, please ask the Randy Heddon Quartet in the Wheelhouse, if

they will be on the ship the week of Apr. 13. What did you think of them? Were many

people dancing?

Thanks and we appreciate your live reports.

As far as the weather goes, upon departure, the Captain said the seas would be rough out of Los Angeles but would calm and be as such all the way to Hawaii. True to his word, they were a bit bumpy soon after clearing the breakwater and didn't clear up till yesterday morning. The weather was clear and the temps were a just little cool. yesterday the weather was great as sjys were clear and temps were fine. Today, the seas are like glass with a few more clouds with the temops being great as well.

Take Care All.....:):):)

Greg, my DH and I just got off the Hawaii sailing before Bob and his wife embarked. The Randy Heddon Quartet was very good. They really engaged the guests and packed the Wheelehouse every night. The dancefloor was full whenever they were onstage. Hope the are still on board when you sail
