gek Posted November 19, 2014 #126 Share Posted November 19, 2014 DH & I are sailing X for the first time (on the Reflection) in a week and a half. We have typically cruised RC, and now that we are empty nesters, we would like to experience this "modern luxury" w/o teenage drama! Lol! We are Platinum on RC. Here's my question. I understand the smart casual & formal dress code in the MDR, theater, & specialty restaurants. What is the dress code after 6 PM if not in one of these venues? We often will eat & then change into something more casual (cropped pants or nicer shorts / top for me) for strolling the ship, shopping, going to the casino, etc. Is that going to work on this ship, or are we better off not changing from our dinner clothes? Thx! Sent from my iPad using Forums There is no stated dress code outside the restaurants or theatre. Most people tend to stay dressed in their dinner clothes however this includes people who chose to dress casually and eat at the buffet. If you are the sort of person who feels uncomfortable when dressed more casually than the majority then staying in dinner wear is the go. On the other hand if you are like me and don't care then wear whatever feels comfortable.

sweetp09 Posted November 22, 2014 #128 Share Posted November 22, 2014 What about shorts and t shirts during the day for lunch and breakfast in restaurants, specifically Blu (as we are in AQ)? Also, I assume shorts are commonly worn onboard during the day?

pjscruzin Posted November 23, 2014 #131 Share Posted November 23, 2014 A few years ago my husband decided he wasn't going to take a tux or jacket of any kind and on formal nights we wouldn't eat in the MDR. Fine with me even though I enjoy the dressing up part of cruising (and women can pull together a few accessories and dress up most anything). Well, wouldn't you know, we were invited to the captain's table that cruise. I told the hostess he didn't bring a jacket but he did have a dark shirt and slacks and she said that would be okay. He was fine in the dark outfit but that taught us a lesson - always bring a jacket or a suit - at least until X dress codes relax further or captain's table events are eliminated. I know we could have declined the invitation but we feel it is a privilege and that it would be rude to turn it down.

You will see plenty of people in shorts because many eat in the buffet and do not wish to dress up. Also, like you, many change after dinner. Hi Don:)......you are correct;)......lots of casual clothing at night, even on formal nights. I was re-reading the post you are referring to.... he said no sandals?....not sure where that came from.....dressy sandals, casual sandals, etc......there are so many people who choose all the other venues (besides the main dining room)......wherever they choose to eat...then they go gamble in the casino...nobody cares how you look in there......:p But to say no sandals?......I wear them every night......depending on my outfit, some are casual, some are dressier. Shorts, t shirts w sleeve on guys and even on Formal nights guys w/out ties and jackets. Also in Murano (and yes it was the first night which is still no excuse) there was a guy in a Tshirt and workout shorts.. yes the polyester soft work out shorts.. not even nice pressed golf shorts.....SMH !!! To me the brand of X is going away.... CC

Phxazzcruisers Posted November 30, 2014 #140 Share Posted November 30, 2014 By definition, yes. In reality, no they do not have to. He may feel out of place without one, but he will not be turned away. If he is not going to wear a jacket, a nice sweater would be nice, or at least a dress shirt and tie... Again, not required, but requested.
New Hampshire Posted November 30, 2014 #141 Share Posted November 30, 2014 I agree with everything stated in Post #2, but get ready for the flames. Many people will be horrified by that information. The stated dress code on Celebrity's website and enforcement of it onboard, and the reality of how people are dressing are two different things. My most recent cruise on Eclipse in October out of Southampton had passenger makeup that was majority UK. The dress onboard on formal nights was the most formal I've seen in years. I would say close to half the men were in tuxes, and I saw many evening gowns on the ladies which I haven't seen for many years. I did not spot any men in the MDR ion formal nights without a jacket. Even on the smart casual nights, people were very dressed up. We tend to go dressy, so it was a lovely experience having that elegant evening ambience onboard. With all of the above being said, my experiences in the last two years have been very different from that on my other sailings. Whether in Europe, Caribbean or Bermuda there have been very few men in tuxes on formal nights and many men without jackets or even ties on those nights. From my experience, my conclusion is that the only time you will experience a very formal ship is on a sailing out of a UK port with a very heavy UK passenger load. chicagopaul Posted December 1, 2014 #146 Share Posted December 1, 2014 It depends on the cruise. I have seen people turned away before for not wearing a jacket in MDR. On our 5 day on the Connie i saw some in t-shirts. On our 7 days or longer cruises i have seen people turned away. They can provide one if needed. However, only MDR is jacket required on formal nights. All specialty restaurants including Blu are smart casual all the time. So if you don't want to bring a jacket, just make a reservation at a specialty or dine in blu if you're aqua or suite on formal nights.

THANK YOU Hi DPTT, Welcome to Celebrity Celebrity does have a DRESS CODE It is upheld more often than not (another words... You do run a high risk of being turned away from a venue if dressed inappropriately) For more info on Celebrity's Dress Code see ther Website - FAQs Pg = http://www.celebritycruises.com/frequently-asked-questions (Actually recommend you read all these Pgs, in addition to your Cruise Contract they have the most important info you need to know) Also here is a Dress Code Discussion STICKY here at the top of this Forum (Infact your Question may end up being moved there by the Mods... Which usually happens for Dress Code Questions) Cheers! Edited December 1, 2014 by Sloop-JohnB
