Elos Moomin Posted October 22, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2014 Because the schools are so keen to fine anyone taking time out of school we cannot take our holidays in term time so it seems the best and cheapest option would be from May 22nd (inset day) -30th. Are there any bargains for that week? We really would prefer somewhere hot so we can laze in the sun when we are not exploring! OCruisers Posted October 22, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2014 Welcome to Cruise Critic! :) The Caribbean would be an excellent choice for you! LuLu
SuiteTraveler Posted October 22, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 22, 2014 Definitely South America or the Caribbean would be your best bets.
cb at sea Posted October 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2014 Almost every place from Bahamas south will be quite warm to hot in May!
Rare Essiesmom Posted October 22, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2014 Since you are from the UK, the European equivalent would be the Canaries. Do you want to cruise from home, or fly to an embarkation port? The Eastern Med will be warm, too. EM
OCruisers Posted October 22, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 22, 2014 Since you are going to have to fly, you might want to consider a P&O cruise out of Barbados. You'll be hot the entire time you are away. ;) LuLu
sail7seas Posted October 22, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 22, 2014 Many cruise lines stop sailing the Caribbean from late April/early May until late October.
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 23, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 23, 2014 Welcome to Cruise Critic. How long will your child's school break be? Are you planning on arriving to the embarkation port a day or two early? Really think you should see a travel agent where you live in the UK. marco Posted October 23, 2014 #11 Share Posted October 23, 2014 If you don't want to incur a long flight and the expense of it, a Greek Isles cruise would fit the bill.
John Bull Posted October 23, 2014 #12 Share Posted October 23, 2014 Caribbean. Though it's quite late in the season, not sure there'll be any direct UK fly/cruises in late May. A US ship out of San Juan would give you more ports-of-call than ex-Florida, though US ships generally aren't so port-intensive. Or the Canaries. Or the Med. Probably eastern Med - majoring on Greek islands, as Essiesmom's post, though they do tend to come with some ancient-sights ports as well, such as Athens, Katakolon, and Kusadasi - none of them known for their scenery or beaches. South America does have some nice beaches, but such long & expensive flights would be wasted on a beach-type holiday. JB :)
cruisead Posted October 23, 2014 #13 Share Posted October 23, 2014 Your choices in the Caribbean in May are a lot less because most ships go to Europe or Alaska for the summer. Ships start leaving the Caribbean in late March and throughout April
jocap Posted October 23, 2014 #14 Share Posted October 23, 2014 P&O/ Thomson ships return in March/April from the Caribbean. I find anywhere in the Med hot enough for me in May. Have a look at what's sailing from Barcelona, if it's just a week you're wanting- or a Thomson cruise from Palma, because they include the flight from regional airports. Also, look at what's going out of the UK, because the cruise lines have cottoned on to the fact that children can't sail in term time, and some ships will seek to use this in their planning. P&O will have a ship sailing for a week from Genoa to Venice, or Venice to Genoa, which will include air and transport to the ship (Oceana) It's a child-friendly ship.
