how many is too many?????

I'm almost done with my report and have been going through my pictures ( I took over 3000) trying to figure out which ones I want to post. I haven't included all of them but there are soooo many I want to share.

We were gone 17 days, if that helps.

I thought since you guys will be the ones reading this, I would get your opinion as to how many are too many. ;):D

I'll go count them and give you an idea what I'm talking about:eek:

Thanks, Gena

I think 10-20 are more than enough....you don't need photos of everything! Maybe 1 of your cabin, and 1 of the bath....folks like that. Perhaps a couple of the public areas of the ship, or of something that you've heard folks ask about.

3000 is too many!!

I would suggest a dual approach. Break your review into separate posts for each day, and include one or two photos in each report. Then post a much larger, comprehensive assortment on one of the free sites like Shutterfly and add a link to that. If you put each day in a separate folder on Shutterfly, you can link directly there from that day's report here. Then you won't take up too much screen real estate for those reading this on the App, but you can fully satisfy those who want all the details they can get.

10-20?! I was thinking like 10-20 PER DAY! Lol. I love the really detailed pic heavy reports, like Gambee and Littlemissmagic.

Me too! Love the pics and the food porn as well. Only thing I don't like is when posters that are following repost an entire post with lots of pics just to say "love the pics"...too much scrolling then!

Lol, I am another one who LOVES pic heavy Cruise Reviews / Trip Reports

I think back to when I first joined CC... I totally fell in love with the Trip Report that TLCOHIO did of their Mediterranean Cruise on The Solstice

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1426474

Certainly played a key role in book king that ship for our cruise.

But how many are too many ?

I'd agree with HOST JAZZBEAU you probably want some pics here for your day-to-day report... And some elsewhere that others wanting more of a play-by-play account can look at

Cheers!

I'd say do what you want to do, then let the readers decide what they want to see or read.

For what it's worth it seems most people historically like a lot of pictures, BUT, to me they need to be important. Seven different angles of the same thing gets old fast.

Are what interests me.

Maybe it is just me......I only pay attention to cruise reviews with pictures if the pictures relate to the cruise itself. If it starts out with leaving home, getting to airport, staying on hotel, restaurants eaten at, etc. etc. etc. then I lose interest.

Reviews that are just about the cruise are the ones I enjoy and follow.

Different strokes for different folks. :D

Why not put your pictures on a photo site so we can enjoy as many as we'd like to see.

I have a photo site with a gallery devoted to cruises and for each cruise I separate our photos into different folders - or at least I usually do.

I am mostly interested in photos of the ship, starting with the stateroom and amenities -- anything that will help with the choice of accommodations or onboard activities.

Although I am sure that a lot of members look lovely in their evening attire, I would save those photos for immediate relatives and friends who would have a much greater appreciation for them.

And for myself at least, part of the fun of any holiday is the possibility of discovering new and different things. I purposely shy away from larger numbers of photos from ports of call, since I want the initial experience to be personal and special.

For me, there is a excellent 'live' revue of Queen Elizabeth by Megacruiser on the Cunard thread at the moment. I look forward to his daily posts, filed with photo's and information day by day. We are researching a cruise for 2016, and frankly, the ex UK Eclipse cruises just released are boring, boring, boring. Been there done that!

For me less is better. I like to read the highlights not an hour by hour, day by day report.

Agree with Host Jazzbeau, break it up into sections not one loooong post.

I agree. I've been on plenty of cruises and when. I start seeing pics of plates of food, landscape pics and things like that, it no longer is a cruise review but a trip review. You don't need many and am amazed that one would take 300 pics a day. We take about 5-10 a day and very few of the ship but personal ones thatno-one else would care to see.

I like pics in a review too. 20 a day is a bit much but maybe 5 - 10 is fine (for me). Go as detailed as you like because this is your report if people aren't interested then they can skip over parts. Unless you are trying to get as many views/replies as you can (never understood that) then write for yourself and let others decide.

As others have said, post the rest of the pictures in a online photo account.

Looking forward to it.

Duane

If you were to ask my wife....there's never too many photographs you can take. But she's a photographer.

I would break it down in posts. Pre cruise, 15-20 per day getting all the highlights of the things you visited.

20 or so for the first day of the cruise. Cabin picture pictures of the ship while it's still a little empty etc.

10-15 per day from your cruise with excursion pics.

Another 20 or so post cruise. That should give you a little over 300 to post.

Personally, if I'm specifically interested in a specific ship and itinerary that someone is writing a photo review of, I can't get enough of pictures. The more details of the ports and excursions, the better. For me, I'm willing to scroll through as many photos as you're willing to take the time to post.

As you can tell from the wide range of responses, you're not going to please everyone. I like to write photo reviews in the same manner in which I enjoy reading them (the more detailed and picture heavy, the better). Only you can decide how many is "enough" without being "too much". Rest assured that even if you post "too many" for some, there will be plenty of others online who appreciate the time and effort that goes into posting such reviews. :)

I have multiple levels of pictures. I pick the top 4 and they go on my phone for the friends who casually ask about our last trip. Then I pick the top 40 and post them somewhere online for family and friends that really do want to see more of the trip. I then select the best of the rest and keep them on my computer (two different hard disks) for those that want more detail on some area or who are gluttons for punishment. Note: I think I have shown one of those files to maybe two or three people over the past 10 years.

I don't like a lot of pictures. People always wind up quoting and including the photos and the thread gets bogged down. Why not just include a link to your photo site and you can share all of them?
That really is the ideal way to do it.

Then those who want to look at the photos can easily do so, while those who don't are not stuck with needing to scroll through a bunch of photos they don't care about.

The worst is when somebody else who quotes a post containing a lot of photos decides to post all the exact same photos over again in the same thread, and then somebody else comes along and thinks it is even a better idea to post all those same photos yet again for a third time right there in the same thread.

If someone is describing a building or statue or cabin or map or animal or piece of equipment or whatever you are discussing in your message, yes I agree, certainly include a photo of it if you have one.

But there is a big difference between including a relevant photo of something specific being discussed and just filling up space on the forum with a bunch of photos from your vacation.

There are some very good photographers who post here, and they provide links to their photos on their own photo sites that are greatly appreciated.
