Canadian cruisers!!

Recommended Posts

Thanks to son3cruisers for letting us all know about this rate way back when! I initially got some back in March and just called again December 31 to get a little more. Got my kids each some as well. Have enough for drink packages, speciality dining, etc. So glad this information was posted here as I would never have known and my DH and I would not have got beverage packages :D !

Could we keep the thread going with updates about cashing out at the casino? We are on Freedom in February. Wanted to use a little of the OBC for the ports. We will get a voucher and play the slots a bit if we have to but so much easier to just get cash.

I'm on Oasis at the end of this month so I'll certainly come back and post my experience withdrawing from the casino. Like you, I have no problem playing the slots for a while and then cashing out but I will get my DH to ask for cash from the casino clerk first.

Yikes....so Royal is no longer selling USD for OBC at 10%??? If so, glad we purchased a couple months ago for our upcomming cruise.

I board Freedom on Sunday and will be trying to get cash from the casino for spending money in ports. I will post the outcome when I'm back.

Please let us know as I'm wondering (and based on discusions) if they will stop letting us take out cash during the cruise for ports. I can some taking advantage as a way to make some money.

Enjoy your cruise!

Just tried again was quoted 10% rate yet when charged to CC was 40% spent half hour on the phone and same result , was told to check back in a week or so and see if anything changes

i highly doubt they'll move back to 1.10...

someone prove me wrong

I also want to thank everyone who has added information to this thread since its inception. We were so appreciative of having been able to use the 1.10 rate to buy enough OBC to pay for all of our onboard expenses as well as excursions during our New Year's cruise on Oasis last week. We were even able to easily withdraw, from the casino, the bit of money we had left over (we had a cash account). Last month, I bought enough OBC to cover onboard expenses for our New Year's cruise next year on Allure at 1.10.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, everyone!!

Let's just hope that in next year our $ does not drop much more and we are saying what a great deal the $1.40 rate is.

At the current rate I won't be cruising next year - back to all inclusive resorts for us. [emoji51]

I called today, Thur Jan 7, to Gifts Dept to purchase OBC to my new booking. The rate has gone up to $1.40, $200 US= $280 Cdn. and $500 US = $700 Cdn. and received a confirmation right away.

I then called Crown & Anchor to confirm if the rate went up. The answer is YES, the rate has gone up to $1.40 and he said a lot of Canadians had been calling to add OBC to their booking.

Anybody that that purchased OBC at $1.10, good rate while it lasted. At $1.40 still cheaper than the banks.

I booked a cruise on Tuesday Jan 5 and my cabin rate has already gone up.

Do we have definite confirmation that the 1:10 is no longer available? I'm trying to follow along here, but I am a bit confused.

I purchased OBC this morning at $1.40 and I received my confirmation email within minutes. See my quote.

if they are starting to go with the current exchange rate maybe they will price some Canadians out of the market and see that they need to give us better cruise rates. maybe add free drink packages or tips or meals. It could get interesting.

It will certainly price me out  I can book an all inclusive last minute (3 weeks out) for a week for damn close to the price of the ultimate drink package (I believe it is now $93/day CND with the recent increase in price of drink packages)! I prefer to cruise but the exchange and rising cruise fares will make it near impossible. Our cruise fare had almost doubled from what I paid a year ago and the last time I checked was before our dollar plummeted, lol, it has probably tripled by now! Back several years ago when our dollar was near what it is now I remember Walt Disney World gave free dining and heavily discounted rooms, to Canadians because business had dropped so much so maybe the cruise lines will come out with much better Canadian resident discounts and other incentives.

You are very welcome! Glad so many were able to take advantage of the savings!:)

I agree. I would love to keep this thread going with updates on withdrawals from the casino. ( What ship allows it or not/what was your limit) We travel in March, and really hope we will be able to take a bit out during the first few days of the cruise to pay for an excursion. The rest is all for onboard spending.

EDIT: I might also say with over 100,000 reads, 2000 posts, and 100 pages this might have been the only thread on the main RC boards this BIG that never once had any "heat" or "tension" surrounding it. So Canadian of us. Thanks to all that have contributed to this great read. :)

:D

This made me smile! You are right! So Canadian!!!:)

Just called. 1.4 exchange rate. This sucks. Meant to buy more for Harmony in November and just missed it. This may cause us to cancel that B2B we have booked.

Unfortunately it looks like we will likely be cancelling the cruise we were going to be on with you too:(. We just got back recently off of the Allure and the exchange rate combined with the overall oasis class experience has caused us to rethink our vacation priorities. We will probably rebook early spring 2017 on the Navigator again and cross our fingers that the Canadian dollar gets back to a somewhat reasonable rate:confused:. If you guys still go hopefully you have a great time.

Wow...sorry to hear this has happened, although I think we all expected it...:(

It will defn change ALOT of ppl's plans unless RCI does something. Will take them awhile to see/feel the affects of it as a lot of ppl already have cruises booked for 2016. But moving forward, its gotta hurt them.

Like its been said...the price of JUST a drink package almost pays for a whole week at an AI.

With predictions of the dollar staying low for the next few years at least....will be interesting to see what happens for sure and if they try to offer some kinda break for Canadian cruises.

In the UK I believe, its quite common to include the drink package with the cruise price.

Or maybe NCL will benefit greatly from this....hmmm

Possum. I remember that you are a flowrider. There is a resort in Cancun that has a flowrider. I can't remember the name but it is not far from the Cozumel airport. If looking for an AI this might help in your decision making. Hopefully it runs more than the one in Windsor, and allows stand-up. :D
