Trich64 Posted March 26, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 26, 2015 After a cruise I always suffer trying to get my "land legs" back... feels like I'm rocking back forth. Are there any ideas out there how to aleviate this? Sometimes this can go on for a week...
phoenix1181 Posted March 26, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 26, 2015 Try taking Bonine for a few days. I have a lot of motion problems & need to take meds before, during & after we cruise.
Big_G Posted March 26, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 26, 2015 Enjoy it while it lasts. It reminds me of the cruise. :D
reallyitsmema Posted March 26, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 26, 2015 I take an antihistamine like Allegra or Claritin for at least a week after any cruise. Helps with inner ear imbalance for me.
davekathy Posted March 26, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 26, 2015 For some reason we no longer feel the motion of the ocean when we return home. Bummer for us!

Are there any ideas out there how to aleviate this? Sometimes this can go on for a week... Sounds like you suffer from Mal de Barquement Syndrome. I think it just has to run its course. I researched this a while back for my mom. Apparently over 90% of the known cases are women, mostly between 40 and 50 years of age.
mystrymaster Posted March 26, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 26, 2015 Ha I was just thinking yesterday after getting back Monday, when am I going to stop slightly vibrating.
Alohaaloha Posted March 26, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 26, 2015 Both my husband and I suffered badly from this after we had been on Splendour. However, we have never had it after sailing RC's bigger ships. We are due to sail Vision in September and it did cross my mind whether we would experience 'land legs' again as I believe Vision is about the same size as Splendour. It's such a very unpleasant feeling I'm hoping we don't! Sent from my iPad using Forums
tlatrice Posted March 26, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 26, 2015 Enjoy it while it lasts. It reminds me of the cruise. :D This! And it's wonderful at night when I'm going to sleep. That rocking sensation just puts me out like a light!
cctimmom Posted March 26, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 26, 2015 Try taking Bonine for a few days. I have a lot of motion problems & need to take meds before, during & after we cruise. I do the same thing... I start taking it the day before flying out and then stop a day or two after back on land, or until I stop feeling that way. (After my first cruise, it lasted for like 3 weeks and I had no idea what was wrong with me)
Rare broberts Posted March 26, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 26, 2015 I find that not flying out the day of debarkation helps. Especially if I can delay flying for a couple of days.
mets07 Posted March 27, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Try taking Bonine for a few days. I have a lot of motion problems & need to take meds before, during & after we cruise. I am also a proponent of this solution. I have this after every cruise - not fun while you are trying to stare at a computer screen and work (but well worth the cruise). :)
livylotte Posted March 27, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Enjoy it while it lasts. It reminds me of the cruise. :D Me too. The longer it lasts the better. My bedroom is a similar layout to a balcony cabin with the bed next to a big patio door. I close my eyes and I'm back on board ... I sleep well for weeks after a cruise. ehfl Posted March 27, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Why would you want to get rid of a reminder of a fantastic vacation?
phoenix1181 Posted March 27, 2015 #15 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Apparently, my post cruise experiences & that of some posters here is completely different. For me it's shaky legs, nausea & dizziness. Not a pleasant rocking feeling when I lay down at night...........
legaljen1969 Posted March 27, 2015 #16 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Then the Bonine solution sounds like the way to go. I have the pleasant sea legs experience. Sorry.
Desert Cruizers Posted March 27, 2015 #17 Share Posted March 27, 2015 I am afraid the only time I would getwobbly legs was after getting off a roller coaster, never a cruise.:)
jd10367 Posted March 27, 2015 #18 Share Posted March 27, 2015 I want this problem also... I get home and it's right back to reality. Instead of waves crashing, I hear the sound of bells rolling all over the floor as my foster kittens or my own cats pay us back for being away. KS Sunflower Posted March 27, 2015 #19 Share Posted March 27, 2015 My Granddaughter had a severe case of vertigo recently, after taking her first cruise. The best thing I've found is Meclizine. It's the same ingredient in Bonine, but a lot cheaper. You can buy a 100 tablet bottle, for around $6.00 at Walmart, Target, etc. Good to keep on hand. Trich64 Posted March 27, 2015 Author #20 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Thank you for the suggestions. We have an extra day in Fort Lauderdale before we fly out, so hopefully that will make a difference.

cherylandtk Posted March 27, 2015 #22 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Try using a rocking chair or swing for a few minutes each day until symptoms are gone. Apparently it helps to 're-set' your sense of what is moving and what is not.
