My room was released and changed without my knowledge

Recommended Posts

That's ok PMcC1998 and thanks for the comments. The 3 bookings were linked reservations but I am not sure about the 'no upgrade'. The room they have offered me is identical but with an unobstructed view so considered an upgrade and I agree wholeheartedly is not one that I would want.

In fact they then offered to 'downgrade' me to a room a bit closer to my original one. I found that quite insulting too.

Now I am nervous. We have 5 rooms next to each other and even booked our second choice of dates because our first choice didn't have rooms together. I am going to be checking mine constantly until we sail. Would love it if both of you would come back and update with your resolution and good luck!!

Just curious but I saw that you had 5 people booked in 3 cabins. That would be 2,2 and 1 in each cabin.

Was the cabin that they took from you able to hold more than 2 guests?

In looking at the deck plans the majority of the connecting cabins have one of the cabins that can hold more than 2.

Still does not make it right but there is probably fine print in the contract that gives them the right to move you if they need the cabin for a larger group.

Edit. I really don't think that the no upgrade being selected is coming into play. Upgrades are usually done on a super category basis and not within a category.

Travel Agent says RCI cancelled the room.

RCI says it's down to the Travel Agent.

Me? I am just the poor customer middle man !

Sorry this happened....however...this sounds like your TA may be at fault here and not RCI. What else is the TA going to tell you other than it was RCI's fault...they know you can't really get much info from RCI as the TA owns your booking. Who's offering you a credit RCI or the TA ? It makes no difference that who ever has your cabin is not with your TA...Something fishy.

ITA. I would demand a three way call with you, your TA and RCI. That's the only way you can find out what really happen.

Ashland in my case, the particular cruise lines moved me then called my TA who was furious that they called a foward cabin an upgrade and told the agent I was to be placed back in my original cabin. My TA explained to me upon my calling her to ask why my cabin # was changed, that she told the agent I monitored my bookings and would see the change and here I am calling her within 15 minutes of this conversation with the agent so she got a chuckle out of that.

OP, you haven't answered the question of how many people did you have booked in that cabin, and what is the capacity of the cabin. They can move you without notice if you booked two people in a cabin that holds more than 2 people, and they need the additional occupancy for someone else.

Was the cabin in question a triple or a quad?

I can't have my original room back as whoever now has it is not with my Travel Agent

My negotiation is going to start at $200 obc per room and Drink Packages for my 2 boys.

Would this be considered reasonable??

The situation in MHO is affecting your vacation and quality of relaxation. I would beyond angry. Ask your TA to arrange for a conference call with you on the line. Room for room change is not a solution. $200 OBC is really RCCL free money, hence not really them saying they screwed up. and the beverage package, think that should be for the full parties on your linked booking. They messed this up if the information I read is accurate. They need to find you a 3 consecutive rooms of equal or greater category and compensation.

We are diamond plus on RCCL and I would be raising the roof that with your agent and the company.

Good luck!

RCCL contacted us once to discuss changing our room. We declined because what they offered, was not an upgrade. We are very particular to not have an adjoining room. We told them upgrade to a Jr Suite or no deal. We stayed where we booked.

I will weigh in too on this thread. I had booked one of single-balcony cabins on the Quantum and scored one that had the bigger (longer) balcony when bookings opened in 2013. Everything OK, the nightmare of Dynamic Dining bookings all taken care of. Finally we get the notice that we can print our SetSail Pass -- what do I find --- I'm no longer booked in my cabin! Shocked. Emailed the TA right away; have heard from people that sometimes a TA released a wrong cabin; I pretty much got the same scenario -- TA said it was RCI's fault. I can't find out for sure as they won't talk to me. The cabin "they" gave me was the very first cabin forward -- WTH -- I'm mid-ship, always mid-ship and that's what I get? Again, people tell me that TA may have realized mistake but when went to re-book my cabin it was taken. And it was.

I too asked, and asked, and asked to get my cabin back. TA was "it's their fault"; they're not budging, won't move the person in the cabin, etc. I was floored that if my TA was at fault she'd think I would totally accept the replacement. TA kept dealing with RCI and they finally offered 'upgraded' cabin but again at the very front of the ship. I stood my ground and say it had to be mid-ship / hump just like I had booked 2 years ago. Finally get a choice of 3 cabins on Deck 13 - two somewhat forward and one with a bigger balcony just off hump. I took that one. No offer of OBC and never, ever did RCI budge on upgrading the other person.

It is a "they said / they said" situation when dealing with a TA. Did my TA release my cabin by mistake? I will never know. Regardless, I too don't understand why they didn't offer an upgraded cabin to the person that booked what I had originally and let me have it back.

In the end, it is a moot point as I had to cancel the cruise. Still don't get how they won't re-accommodate the original booked versus moving the second one.

OP -- I hope things work out for you.

Last October the same thing happened to me. I had picked out a nice hump balcony, room 7240, junior suite for a b2b. A month after booking it, I noticed that we were moved to 7226. Was never told about the move so I called to find out what happened and no one had an answer. After a while on the phone they put me thru to resolutions and they asked me what I thought would be fair. I said i can't answer that and they asked me if I would be happy with 500.00 OBC. I asked if that would be for for each cruise, and was told yes. I was shocked and said that was more than fair. Ended up with 800.00 OBC for each week and only lost out on a little balcony room. Later the next day I was told that the room had been double booked. In the 2 weeks on the ship we never saw anyone go in or out of that room. Good luck and I hope it turns out well!!!

$800.00 OBC ....I guess I would have looked at it differently (but glad you were happy with the offer)...I would never be happy with that much OBC. I couldn't even imagine using that much..and at times have trouble using $100-200.

I would want a pretty good catagory upgrade or my booked cabin back....Unless I was able to "cash out" at the end of my cruise and we know RCI doesn't allow that.

You could take it out at the casino. Yes, you'd pay what, 6%, but it's still over $700. Just sayin'.:)

You're right...I forgot you can do this (as some have posted)...but since it never applies to me...not surprised ;)

I would threaten the TA with complete cancellation of your bookings (all 3 rooms) AND your airfare/hotels AND demand compensation on top of all that for spoiling a vacation you were looking forward to. $100 OBC is a joke. I know you're within final payment date but they are not honoring the original contract (unless there's some fine print that gets them out of it, which I am doubting). They did this move after final payment and there's no way that's acceptable, especially since they never even notified you. If you get nowhere with the agent, then try the same tactics with RC.

I also suspect this is what happened. In a string of three Boardwalk balconies, at least one is apt to be rated for more than two guests. If cruise is in June, there may be high demand for triple and/or quad cabins. Some family may have needed that berth. I hope the OP comes back to tell us about about booking and berth capacity in old and new cabins.

I am really sorry as I appear to have crossed the OP's subject, however in my example my 3 rooms were 2 x Inter-connecting balcony staterooms (2 people in each) and a Studio Balcony Stateroom (single occupancy).

I would have thought, maybe naively, that the inter-connecting room especially as the reservations were linked is vastly different to that of 'adjacent' rooms??

Tomorrow I am back in discussions and will take heed of the 3 way Conference Call suggested by earlier posters.

I am very sad to say that the expectations of resolution is so far apart I am not particularly hopeful. I advised the Travel Agent last night that cancellation and compensation is a very strong possibility and she said she was not senior enough to deal with that and I would have to be passed onto to Management level !

I am in nervous trepidation of not only having to tell my wife and mother in law the trip is cancelled, but the thought of telling my Boys who are so so excited about it is tearing me apart.

Many Thanks for your comments though, please feel free to contribute (and once again apologies to the OP)

Again I hope this gets resolved for all of you...but I just can't help but feel this is another reason (at least for me) why I never deal with a TA..no one (a 3rd party that now says they aren't "senior" enough to deal with a problem) is a better advocate for me than myself.

Best of luck and stand your ground...as it was your ground (cabins) first.

It does sound like this may be a case of one of the rooms technically holding more than 2 people and being needed for a larger party since apparently RCCL does that kind of moving...

Many have asked how many my original cabin will hold. I believe the answer is 2 but am not 100% sure. It is 11325 on Oasis. However, I have not been given a reason why the change happened, my impression was it was unknown. ?? I noticed by chance that I was in 10325. While the other 2 cabins we booked were 11327 and 11323. I never received a change notice to my reservation. I noticed it by luck the other day and was told it happened on March 28, 2015. Like some of you we booked this cruise very early to get the location and side by side rooms. We booked directly with RC and no TA was involved. I have not had a response to my email sent about 24 hours ago yet but everyone that knows me and loves me  know I don't easily let go of things! I will give them another day or 2 to respond and then start making phone calls. I'm not sure what a fair OBC is for something like this but $100 seems inadequate.

I can only recommend if you reserve a specific cabin that you check often to confirm you still have it but if you lose it RC's response seems to be so sorry, so sad for you, oh well.
