Didn't I read on here the Mein Schiff will be sailing out of New York?

You did but they have Mein Schiff #1 to #6. I did think it is the old Mercury our of NYC.

I just loved the video. I wish I could speak German. I have seen Mein Schiff in the Caribbean and in Madeira.

We were on the Mercury doing Alaska when the Captain got arrested for drinking.

Yes we loved the ship

Yes, I had forgotten that! The good old days!

We've see Galaxy; Mein Shiff 1, since she left, but not Mercury. You could still see the X on her stack.

Mercury was our first Celebrity cruise, and we didn't like her very much, so it could have also been our last. What didn't we like? We were just coming off of years and years of Princess, Royal Caribbean, etc. and we were not used to how quiet it was, Celebrity just didn't seem as much "fun" as those other lines. The staff just seemed glum on that sailing. There was nothing physically wrong with the ship itself, it was just such a different vibe than what we were used to (and liked).

We were all set to go back to Princess when 9/11 happened and cruise lines were offering tremendous deals to get people traveling again, and we got an offer from Celebrity that we couldn't refuse. It was on the M class, we lucked into an aft balcony (just pure took a chance on a review we had read as one became available 3 weeks before sailing), and we've been hooked on the M class (and afts) ever since.

We sailed her Australia/ New Zealand in Jan 2008.

We later booked a P&O cruise and had to 'downgrade' from a luxury balcony on Mercury to partial blocked outside cabin on Artemis, to be able to afford to cruise. Thereafter we have stuck with Celebrity.

It has been reincarnated as the Mein Schiff 2...they have removed the aft pool and casino....looks better than ever...here is the video of how it looks now...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5sUnVwWaHY

Fantastic how they made a brand new ship out of a 18 year old ship.

This is better than "modern luxury"

Wish X would refit the M-class the same way ;)

Mercury was the first X ship to do Australia and New Zealand.

We spent a month on board with the Hawaii to Aukland repositioning cruise (stops in Tahiti/Moorea and Bora Bora) then back-to-back on the inagural Australia cruise. My least favorite of all the "old" ships but a terrific cruise.

We cruised Australia/NZ in January 2008, which was our first Celebrity experience. We became loyal Celebrity cruisers, with only occasional defections to other lines, and sailed Mercury several more times including the last cruise before she left the fleet. We also enjoyed Century and were on her next to last cruise, Singapore to Dubai.

I see you asked the same question about Century too......I sailed both

ships, multiple times......I loved all my cruises on them. I am guessing

you are going to be asking about Galaxy too......those 3 were sister

ships and I love them all.

Tom....I was on that Mercury cruise too......The Coast Guard came on

board and removed him.....that was way back in 2005 or 2006...I can't

remember which year though.

Thanks for the video. We were only on the Mercury three times, with the last cruise for us on her in October, 2010. But we have such fond memories. And while we've seen Mein Schiff 1 twice (once in Lisbon in 2014 and last October in Athens), we've never seen the old Mercury again.
