Just wanted to let you know that we just got off the Allure today. Great cruise, except for one thing. I organized a slot pull with people from Cruise Critic. 33 of us pitched in $15.00 each. We pulled on a wheel of fortune machine, $5.00 per bet which was the maximum. With some small winnings we had, we played over $650.00. which was 130 pulls. NOT ONE SPIN ON THE WHEEL! Something is wrong here, either your machine was broken or it is fixed. We spoke to the casino host, guest services, Florence in the Royal Casino Dept. Nobody gave us any satisfaction. We have played wheel of fortune machines all over, in casinos in the states, Vegas, and on many other cruises. We have always gotten at least 1 spin of the wheel for a lot less money played. What say you???

We even spoke to the cruise director, Jake, who was advertising on the tv in the room to play the wheel of fortune machine. HE PULLED HIS AD AFTER SPEAKING TO US. HE AGREED SOMETHING IS WRONG!!

I know there is no guarantees in gambling and we expect not to win, but does this sound normal? I think not.

I am posting this to let others know what a rip off the casino is. I hope some of you don't feel compelled to flame me.

The last thing the casino host said was we should have played the $3.00 max bet and we would have gotten free spins. Does this make sense? Spend less and win more?

I feel your pain. I sent a complaint letter to 42 states complaining Powerball was broken or fixed after I didn't win 1.5 billion.

Still waiting for a reply.

:D:D I feel YOUR pain. So you weren't the one in Florida to win? Well....I wasn't the one in California, either......:(:D

There's really no telling with these machines since they are not "fair", per se. They are not perfectly random. They are configured with a payout schedule that the operator (i.e. RCI casino staff) can tweak or customize. So all bets are off (haha, sorry, couldn't resist :)).

In particular I found the "Key Master" game to be interesting to watch. Many people thought it was a game of skill. Some truth to it but mostly untrue. Yes, the machine did allow some people to win. But many were stymied by the key seemingly striking the same spot every time (off by maybe 1/16"), not quite entering the key hole to pull out the cash prize. I clearly saw the robot arm continuing to move for a split-second after the player had released the button.

If you search online about the Key Master game, you'll find a page in the game's manual describing how to set the payout rate and "compulsory upper deviation".

In short, never trust a gaming machine to be fair.

watched that game for about 30 minutes on my navigator cruise a couple years ago...was pretty entertaining to watch people get BEYOND upset about missing it by a fraction of an inch each time.

I guess I am the only person that agrees with you! I do like the comment from the 1 poster that you should take into consideration. Nest time, don't announce the machine you will be using and use a random slot machine. I'd be curious to see what happens. We did NOT announce our machine when we did this with our Roll Call (several years ago)... however, we didn't win anything either...so I agree with you!

WOW

I actually have no response.....

This one got me.

I gamble but leave the machine if it takes my first $40.

Did you think to go to another?

Have a great day.

Hope you had fun with the group though.

Sea Ya

They are configured with a payout schedule that the operator (i.e. RCI casino staff) can tweak or customize.

This is a somewhat misleading statement. There isn't a payout "schedule" per se, but there an adjustment that can be made in the odds of a payout being made. But even so, every pull is a random event. If the odds of winning let's say $1,000 is 1 in 20,000 pulls (I have no clue, this is just for example), then those are the odds every single pull, regardless of what did or didn't happen recently. Win $1,000? What are the odds of hitting it again on the next pull? 1 in 20,000. Hasn't hit $1,000 in 30,000 pulls? The odds are still 1 in 20,000 on the next pull.

Now the machine operator (in this case the cruise line) can raise or lower those odds, but that can't mess with the machine beyond that. Companies that make them such as IGT won't allow it. People identify specific machines they like to play at various casinos (Wheel of Fortune, Double Diamond, etc...) and that is where companies that design and build the machine make their reputation and therefore, where they make their money. They are no more going to let RCI or anyone else "fudge" the machines than Budweiser is going to let a bar water down their beer to increase profits.

Besides, it's absolutely stupid to think a casino operator would even be motivated to do this. After all, the machines are already GUARANTEED to make them money in the long term. Why on earth would they mess with a sure thing?

Are the odds of a payout worse on a cruise ship? Of course! They have a captive audience! But they aren't "doctoring" the machines like some people foolishly think.

Haha, yes -- and SO many people wanted to try "just one last time", about 10 times each... :D

You saw the article about the girl who set up a Go Fund Me page to recoup all the money she paid out for losing tickets, right? The worst thing is some idiots have actually paid her!
