justafem Posted January 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2016 10 day Mexican Feb 23. We were in L303. I was really happy about that room, we got it at a fantastic price, bigger room (last cruise we were inside and that didn't bother me in the least, I like caves) and NO Balcony (didn't want a balcony, friends had one, I didn't like the idea of losing half my room to weather contingent). Hubby got an email today offering us one of the OV sixth floor suites for $199, called them, left a message stating we had questions. Princess called us back within 20 minutes answered all the questions just how I hoped they would (all suite privileges, increased tip pool, etc). I already knew what rooms they were (cyber-stalking princess by night) told hubby that we didn't want F301, because F305 was available. Let's be honest, if only F301 would have been available, I would have taken it too, but we were offered F305... AND WE BOOKED IT!

hightownCO Posted January 22, 2016 #11 Share Posted January 22, 2016 Congratulations! I have a premium OV on the Grand to Hawaii. You're living my dream. Figured they would usually only offer the OV Suites as upsells to other OVs. But alas they are all booked up on my sailing. Have a great time! CruisingJs Posted January 22, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 22, 2016 We just got off the 10 day Mexico cruise in a window suite. This was our third time in one. We love them and especially love the suite benefits. Enjoy! You got a great deal.
ladyaero Posted January 22, 2016 #15 Share Posted January 22, 2016 Keeping my fingers crossed for an upsell offer for my July trip to Alaska (would LOVE a window suite!), but guessing that's unlikely (though there are still 5 window suites unsold right now...but it's a long time 'til sail away!). Cabogirl13 Posted January 22, 2016 #17 Share Posted January 22, 2016 If you have already been (free) upgraded do they ever still offer an up sell opportunity for a better type of room or once they give you a general upgrade are you done? Cruising in about 50 days and did get a nice upgrade already (BF to a B1). Just wondering if a suite up sell may come our way. What drives who they contact? Cruising in about 50 days and did get a nice upgrade already (BF to a B1). Just wondering if a suite up sell may come our way. What drives who they contact? Yes they do! The two seem to operate independently. The Upsell fairy blasts emails to folks or their TAs in the next tier down, then: "This offer is ONLY available by calling 1-800-243-7342 extension xyz (M-F). Offer expires NOVEMBER 14, 201x AT 4:00PM. This offer is based on availability and space is limited. Calls/voicemails will be handled in the order received." Also note, if upsold (i.e. a paid for upgrade) to a full suite, then you need to call Captain's Circle and get your extra cruise credit.

justafem Posted January 23, 2016 Author #22 Share Posted January 23, 2016 What gets me is this is only our second cruise. First was a 15 day Hawaiian in April of 2015. We had two inside cabins and specifically asked not to be upgraded since we wanted the adjoining rooms, since we were traveling with and adult child and a friend, who shared the room. I am so excited! I can't stop the constant looking to make sure this is really real. Every time I go to the princess site, I reconfirm that we really are in a suite. I'm squiggling all over and keep bursting into smiles! One month exactly and we will be in SanFran. I want NOW!
iceleven Posted January 23, 2016 #23 Share Posted January 23, 2016 Our 15 day to Hawaii this last November was a similar upsale from L303 to a window suite on deck 6. It was great having the extra room and suite services and the price difference was minimal, especially for a 15 day cruise. I do think, in all fairness, to warn you of potential noise in the room. It's not as noticeable during the day and it's not from anything from the casino or machinery on the ship. It comes from ALL the walls and ceilings. They creak and squeak all night long. After our first night I thought we would have to ask for another cabin and have to give up our suite but my husband gave me a pair of his super duper ear plugs and that seemed to cancel most of the sounds. If you have calm seas, you probably won't have a problem but we were crossing the Pacific and it was a bit more rocky. Just make sure to pack good ear plugs. We loved the window suite and with being on a 15 day cruise with ONLY 2 port stops (ship lost part of the electrical grid during a small fire) and we were unable to stop at all the islands as the ship had reduced propulsion. It was a disappointment but having the suite made it so much easier when having only the ship for so many sea days.

It was a disappointment but having the suite made it so much easier when having only the ship for so many sea days. From what I understand it's the stabilizers that make so much noise. We are packing earplugs, but once I'm asleep, I can sleep through hubbies snoring (which can be heard through 2 walls) From what I'm seeing, it's pretty normal to book the view L30* rooms and to be offered the WS for a minimal up-charge. Knowing this is power! We got L303 for $849 pp, about $75 more pp than an inside. Next day they were the normal price of almost $1200. I feel pretty good about what we paid for the WS, actually I'm THRILLED beyond words, we got the WS for LESS than the NORMAL price of L303! I am scoping out the suite benefits, what is a pillow menu? We've always brought our own pillows (hubby uses memory foam, I use down). Does that mean there are choices in pillows so we don't have to bring our own? I am SO looking forward to a tub. I'm a bath type of human, I'd rather have a 5 minute bath than a 20 minute shower. Jetted tub even. So many benefits to a suite, but unless the same type of deal falls in our laps again, doubtful it'll happen again. CruisingJs Posted January 23, 2016 #25 Share Posted January 23, 2016 If you're picky about pillows bring your own. We sailed in F309 on the January 9th sailing. I asked our steward if we could have firmer pillows than the soft squishy ones provided and he could only come up with one and it was kind of flat. I actually mentioned this is our post cruise survey because they do advertise a pillow menu. By the way, we didn't experience any unusual noises in the cabin from the stabilizers or squeaking. We had a really noisy window suite on the Golden once going to Hawaii and it did keep me awake but the Grand was very quiet.
