cruiserone Posted February 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2016 Our best friends are on the Reflection and just emailed me that Bistro on 5 is now a sushi bar and The Porch is now a raw bar. Just thought I would pass the word around.

Rare ghstudio Posted February 22, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 22, 2016 Would it be possible to ask them to send you the menu from the sushi bar....,.
Ma Bell Posted February 22, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2016 It will be interesting to see how this goes over. They seem to be a bit behind the times. These things were the big fad a few years ago but I guess Celebrity has some convoluted idea that this is Modern Luxury. Oh well.
iMedic Posted February 22, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2016 A proper sushi bar would be bloody fantastic!
Cruizen Susan Posted February 22, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) Sooo disappointed. I happen to love sushi, but half the population will not even touch it. I sure hope this is a rumor..... :( Edited February 22, 2016 by Cruisen'Susan
KirkNC Posted February 22, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 22, 2016 Not surprised as when we went it was not very crowded.

jsf Posted February 22, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 22, 2016 This could turn out to be a disaster, I don't know many people who will go for the sushi, I think it's a niche type of place, what next a place that specializes in kale dishes. Cruizen Susan Posted February 22, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 22, 2016 I'll be on the Equinox in 10 days. I'll confirm if this is true. It probably is true, I'm just in denial. :(
Alimack Posted February 22, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 22, 2016 Hi Cruisen'Susan I'd appreciate the followup. My wife and I are on the Equinox at the end of March. We've always enjoyed having our Embarkation Day lunch there. Alimack
ECCruise Posted February 22, 2016 #14 Share Posted February 22, 2016 Wouldn't be the least bit surprised. Bistro on 5, which was an OK value at $5, jumped the shark at $7 and a couple months later the shark died at $10. On Millennium last month, we saw 2 couples, a total of 4 people, in Bistro on 5. On embarkation day.
Wine-O Posted February 22, 2016 #15 Share Posted February 22, 2016 Does that mean they will do away with the free sushi from 5-8pm in the buffet area???

We've always enjoyed having our Embarkation Day lunch there. Alimack I sure will Alimack! We enjoy embarkation day lunch there too. And other days as well. When one is spending $$$$ on a vacation, what's another extra $5pp. (over the original $5) I love their food, and they really take care of my gluten free needs. AND I guess we go there prime time, because the place is often 3/4 to almost full.
Rare keesar Posted February 23, 2016 #17 Share Posted February 23, 2016 Last week on Reflection, the Bistro on 5 was nearly empty most of the time. I thought it was closed but the staff was there waiting for diners. The Porch was dead too.

Actually I did see some staff members dining in Bistro a couple times - though maybe they were there to try and draw others in. ;)

Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted February 23, 2016 #21 Share Posted February 23, 2016 Truly hope this grand idea isn't "contagious" and spreads to Eclipse. For one thing sushi used to be free in the buffet. For another thing I didn't eat it even then.
Rare hcat Posted February 23, 2016 #22 Share Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) Hope this is just a trial on Reflection...photos posted of the seafood at the porch..with an extra upcharge for the tower,..have not been very enticing.. offering only sushi would be a no for us at Bistro.on 5.....dh allergic to most fish, and never eats sushi...that'd be 2 places off our list,. Tuscan with the new menu there... with upcharges beyond the entry fee... is another likely no...also not too thrilled with gastropub.bar food menu We usually patronize Bistro on 5 several tmes per cruise..and even with the recent higher fee, we enjoyed the menu with daily specials on EQ in January,..they have/had great home made soups every day...great salads, paninis, mac & cheese... At least we still have BLU and AQ spa cafe and the buffet, but expect they'll ruin those too if they can... Actually I did see some staff members dining in Bistro a couple times - though maybe they were there to try and draw others in. ;) Likely they enjoyed getting served instead of walking around the buffet. I am looking forward to seeing a menu from the new Sushi on 5 on the Reflection. Please post one if you can.
Rare ghstudio Posted February 23, 2016 #25 Share Posted February 23, 2016 Totally agree with the above: yuck to both! :p Do you eat shrimp as in shrimp cocktail? Do you eat rice? put them together and they are sushi. Do you eat cream cheese, smoked salmon and rice...put them together and they are a philadelphia roll. How about an omelette...put it on rice and it's another type of sushi. I'm kind of amazed that so many have no clue what sushi really is...and are ready to say....yuck...
