Can't use power outlet strips?

Surprised to read somewhere this morning that power outlet strips may be confiscated. Always brought one to charge our phones, etc. onboard.

Is this information correct? If so, alternative?

If the power strip has a surge protector it may be confiscated.

Bring one without a surge protector.

Yes, Carnival can confiscate it if it has a surge protector or they think it is a hazard:

Electrical devices such as fans, power strips, multi plug box outlets/adaptors, and extension cords (without surge protectors) are allowed on board when used with proper caution. However, if such devices are determined to pose a hazard, they will be removed and returned the last day of the cruise prior to debark.

We use one like the one pictured below.

We use a charging station that has 3 plug-ins and 2 USB ports. One problem we had wss that the outlet in the room is at the desk and is placed very low, only about 1" above the table top.. We didn't have enough clearance , so had to buy a 12" plug extender to use it.

We got one of the "spider" or "stickman" like extenders that have 5 plugs. Works great for the outlet placement. Then you just plug in one of the small Belkin 3 outlet 2 port charging stations and you're covered. There are also smaller charging stations with just 2 ports that can recharge phones and cameras relatively quickly. Add one of those and you'll have 5 plugs and 4 ports. All can be packed in your checked luggage or carryon and don't take up a lot of space.

Just note, and I know everyone says they get them through security frequently, but the Belkin USB ports are surge protected. There are very few multi-port USB chargers that aren't. I say this all the time, not to say you can't get them onboard, but for your own safety.

Guess I'll have to head to local store to ask about buying one without surge protector.

It is confusing, especially to non-technical people, and even people with electrical backgrounds, but not marine experience. Add the fact that nearly every device these days adds surge protection (its cheap and allows a higher price), and you've got chaos. Just know that the differences in wiring that make surge protectors dangerous onboard ships are also the reasons that surge protectors are not required onboard. None of the ship's electronics, from the POS registers, to the navigation systems, to the engineering controls that keep the lights on, have surge protection.

For years I traveled with this triple tap:

Seen here (upside down) on Celebrity Solstice in

Last cruise I found this little gem, which worked well on Fascination. The blue light is a wonderful nightlight, and when you plug in an item to charge (usb) the light turns red, then green as item charges, and blue again when it is charged..

But my next cruise is on Divina, and those outlets are sideways, and close to the desktop, So I can't use this. I will have to go with this:

But there are other resources out there. I always carry an EU style plug adapter, and I was able to order EU and UK style USB plug adapters for my Kindles:

Sorry to post links instead of pics, but shockwave is giving me fits and I can't get photobucket to work... EM

$18 is ridiculous, you can buy a power strip at Home Depot for $5.

Of course you can, but can you find one that swivels, has three outlets and 2 USB ports? This fits our needs and is smaller to pack than a $5 power strip.

And I have to mention that when I bought it, it wasn't that much.

True, but with hair dryer, curling iron, etc. plugged in I can still plug in Kindle and phone for pictures. In addition, I have a batter charger for my camera. It just means I can take just the cords without the plug part. Easier for me.

But, to each his own. Whatever works for you is what you should buy.

We use this one - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ATZJ5YS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00

The best part is that the plug on the back swivels so it doesn't matter which way the original outlet is. I saw this one recommended the most on the board.

That has a surge protector, no longer bring it onboard.

I plugged my laptop into the 220v outlet. The Glory has universal 220v socket, and most computer bricks are dual voltage.

The laptop has 4 usb ports, and I could charge all the other electronics off that.

That left the 110v outlet free for my wife's coiffing.

Note: With only one device plugged into an outlet, Carnival is not worried about you overloading the extension cord.

Note2: The shaver outlet in the bathroom can also charge a phone (but not much more).

I used this one on Splendor. No surge protector, just four outlets. Is it the cheapest thing available? No. But its very compact. I always take it when traveling. Older hotels even in the US sometimes have few outlets. Hotels in Europe rarely have more than one or two outlets.
