Caribbean Princess Dry Dock

Next March. It'll be a routine dry dock which means they'll scrape and repaint the hull, service the engines, clean and service the thrusters, check the propellers, deep clean carpeting and furniture, update electronics, etc. Kind of like taking your car in for an oil change and detailing.

What sort of "renovation" is needed? Exterior and interior painting and carpet replacement is done on a regular basis with passengers onboard.

We are just off the Caribbean Princess Transatlantic crossing and felt that the ship is in need of some TLC. Chairs in various areas are stained and frayed and some tables chipped. This was the first time in 10 cruises with Princess where we thought the ship rather 'tired'. Won't put us off though, already booked the Emerald for September.

I think our cruise is the week before dry dock....any chance a new bed would be in place before dry dock!?

If your car needed new seat covers, would you jack it up and place it on blocks to put in the seat covers? NO. You'd just do it.

That's what the cruise line does to replace mattresses: they just do it. A truck pulls up to the dock, unloads a truckload of mattresses, waits for hours, then hauls away a truckload of mattresses. They probably only do it on turnaround day, but they could do it any day in port, and/or stash some mattresses in a storeroom and switch it out while you're at the spa.

We were on the CB last October and again in March. During those cruises they replaced the carpet in the HC and in several other areas at night when most pax were in bed. We saw crew members painting and cleaning every day as we have on other ships. We also saw them load new mattresses and I assume they were used during the cruise. The ship is always updating, repairing and replacing every day. The main effort in a dry dock is to clean and paint the hull.

Were you on the trip here they cancelled all of the Elite laundry because of a malfunction & only sold laundry for $20 per bag? :(

Loved the Emerald when we sailed her a few years ago.

If this dry dock is routine? I wonder why the deck plans are different after it??

The new deck plans are to account for the implementation of the new Premium Mini Suite category (being called Club Class in some literature, and "Premium" on the deck plan.) Instead of Mini Suites being called "MA, MB, MC, MD and ME, the MA is being changed to M1. That is the only reason that I see for the "Sailing before..." and "Sailing after..." notation on the deck plan.

Princess dry dock schedule is saying the CB will be in dry dock March 26 - April 5, 2017. The dry dock will be in the Bahamas and will be routine. Usually a few weeks before dry dock, the crew will be getting ready for dry dock and for a period after will be finishing up any tasks that were not competed. So expect unusual activity on the ship during those times.

According to the Princess website, Club Class will start on the Caribbean Princess on April 6, 2017. That explains one thing they will be modifying during the dry dock.

I'm not sure what they would have to "physically modify" in a dry dock to initiate the Club Class mini's?

When you see changes in deck plans from one date to another, it really means they are re-catagorizing and re-pricing cabins based on booking trends and passenger preferences. Club class mini's were necessary based on the data that suites book up quickly because passengers are more than willing to pay for extra perks within the current economy.

I am on the April 6th Caribbean cruise directly out of dry dock. Also on the Royal Oct 8 cruise directly out. it will be interesting on comparing the two cruises.

If that's true, avoid cabins near R707!!!

I think we have experienced or seen/smelled sewage smells/issues/bathroom backups on just about every cruise we have been on.

It's something that the crew deal with while the ship is in service. Not saying it's right but it is what it is.
