samb413 Posted June 8, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Everyone in my party has $100 in on board credit to use. We already purchased drink plans because they were "on sale," and we only dine in the MDR. I was thinking we could spend it on the photo package? Can't really think of anything else worthwhile. Any ideas?
cb at sea Posted June 8, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) If you haven't pre paid your tips, they can come out of your obc....it's merely a credit against anything that goes on your account. You can't really "pick and choose" what it will be used for. The 1st $100 you spend will be taken care of by the OBC. leisuretraveler223 Posted June 8, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Do you not usually spend any additional money on board?
bosco85 Posted June 8, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2016 After the automatic tips, you'll have just a few bucks to spare, so you shouldn't have an issue. a photo or small item from the shops such as shot glasses or a deck of cards, or a couple extra bucks to your favorite bartender, will finish off your credit. Paul65 Posted June 8, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 8, 2016 As mentioned, unless gratuities have also been prepaid, those will take up most of your OBC. Some people in your party may want to shop a little (t-shirts, jewelry, duty free liquor, etc.), take ship-sponsored shore excursions, buy photos, get a massage or other spa treatment, play BINGO. I wish I had the problem of having a hard time finding a way to spend all my OBC. :D
samb413 Posted June 8, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) Yes we already prepaid our tips. We usually don't spend too much money on board. I mean, we have only cruised one other time, but the money we did spend wasn't really necessary (pineapple drinks, cupcakes, johnny rockets, bingo). samb413 Posted June 8, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted June 8, 2016 I wish our TA would have recommended putting the OBC towards gratuities! Oh well. I was just wondering what you all put your credit towards. :) Can this be put towards the casino? I read somewhere-- that you can just put the money in a slot machine, print cash voucher, then cash it out! Can this be done?
ryano Posted June 8, 2016 #8 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Even with prepaid gratuities and a drink package, 100.00 doesnt go very far
wolfcathorse Posted June 8, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Yes we already prepaid our tips. We usually don't spend too much money on board. I mean, we have only cruised one other time, but the money we did spend wasn't really necessary (pineapple drinks, cupcakes, johnny rockets, bingo). use it to get some gelato or ice cream from Lattitudes or Ben and Jerry's. Use it to buy a specialty coffee. It goes fast, an 8x10 boarding photo is $20, captain's handshake is $22. One visit to the spa for a port day special will use it up. If the OBC came from anywhere but RCI, cash it out at the end of the cruise! On my recent Freedom cruise I had a $50 OBC from my TA. I backed my Seapass as a cash account and when we boarded I deposited $300 so we had a total of $350 OBC for the 7 nights. At the end of the cruise, the ship had to pay me back $316! I mean, we have only cruised one other time, but the money we did spend wasn't really necessary (pineapple drinks, cupcakes, johnny rockets, bingo). Well, if you already paid gratuities and bought drink packages, and you don't want to spend it on cupcakes, Johnny Rockets or other specialty restaurants, and Bingo, then tell us what you do want to use if for. Spa maybe? If it were me, and there weren't any "needs" to use that for, I'd still use it for something. I'd try the specialty restaurants, or buy something in the shops, or take one of the ships excursions. I wouldn't just let the OBC go.
Capt_BJ Posted June 8, 2016 #11 Share Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) shore excursion ..... photos ..... spa .... it isn't hard to spend $100 on a cruise ship! and a note: if you try another line do not assume that the OBC can be used for tips. On a recent cruise they specifically noted that OBC could not be used for tips .... always check the fine print. I was simply asking what you spend your OBC on. I will NOT let the money go to waste, TRUST ME. I'll find things to use it on, I was just asking a question bc most everything is paid for on a cruise. It's like an all inclusive floating hotel. Apologies if I offended anyone... trust me that I will use every single "free" on board credit we received! I read somewhere-- that you can just put the money in a slot machine, print cash voucher, then cash it out! Can this be done? To use it in a slot machine (or anywhere else in the casino) you will have to get it as cash first, from the window in the casino. They will charge you a 5% fee for this. You can't use your sea pass to put credit on your slot machine, the pass only tracks your points play.
spookwife Posted June 8, 2016 #19 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Ten $10 pashminas for your pet sitter, baby sitter, kids' teachers............... :D the office secret santa.... any OBC for us means one or two extra trips to a Specialty and a Hot fudge sundae after a port day. ATLgirl15 Posted June 8, 2016 #21 Share Posted June 8, 2016 Spa would be my number 1 choice. one trip I did the behind the scenes tour and it was fascinating...not the theater one, but the actual ship tour where they take you to the kitchen, provision dept, crew area, laundry, engineering room, bridge. I'm not sure if all ships offer this but it is well worth price.

Pitzel Posted June 8, 2016 #23 Share Posted June 8, 2016 A nice dinner (or chef's table), a bottle of wine (since not included in the drink package), or even use it towards a deposit on a future cruise! We had OBC on a different cruise line and it ended up making a pretty sizable deposit for our next cruise ($250 OBC = $500 in future cruise credits).
