For an east bound trans-Atlantic, you want the starboard side if you want sun. Port side if you do not. Beyond that I am not aware of any differences

For the Caribbean ports I don't think it matters at all what side you pick.

There is no way of telling whether your ship will pull in or back into it's berth at each port.

No difference unless you select to stay in one of the mid ship mini suites under the sea walk. Port side minis are mostly protected from sea walk views by the Sea View Bar, while upper decks starboard side minis are not.

Doesn't matter...the captain will try and give equal time to each side...when possible.

Most of the time, we opt for a port side cabin . . . we did sail out of Fort Lauderdale on the Grand during December in a starboard cabin and the Miami skyline was quite scenic. Of course, if you're up early returning to port, you should be able to see the same.
