Passport Card

There are some checkpoints as you enter the port area that ask for ID. The passport card is an acceptable form of ID so you won’t have any problems .

WOW! That is a BIG change!

This changed in October 2015, just before the Ft. Lauderdale boat show

-- so that the checkpoint would not be overwhelmed with convention center

visitors.

Several posters here like to argue and argue about it, as if it's butter.

Here is a post from 30-December-2015 talking about the change:

Since a driver's license is sufficient ID to enter port areas a Passport Card is definitely OK.

I had a rent-a-cop refuse to let me enter the port after showing a valid united states passport.

He insisted that since I was driving, I could only show a drivers license.

Why argue with idiots?

Wow. Gotta love those rent-a-cop types who think of themselves as actual law enforcement. No training, no clue, but lots of "I'm the boss" mentality.

Not so sure how long that change lasted!

We were sailing from terminal 2 in Feb 2017 and absolutely did have to show our Passport Book, Passport Card, or Driver's License before we could enter.

I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, but thanks for the laughs. :D:D:D

It's still in effect if you enter from the entrance on 17th street. That is the security check point that was moved back so one can get to the convention center without going through security which is by Terminal 2 and 4. I just did the 12/3/17 Regal sailing from Terminal 2 and went in that entrance.

You must have come through one of the other entrances to the port.

We've alway gone through the main entrance as directed when passing the airport.

No big deal for us. We have any ID they may want. :)

Ah.

There are three entrances to the port.

State Road 84, Eisenhower Blvd, and I-595/Eller Drive.

If you entered on State Road 84, I'm sure you had to show ID. There has been no change there.

This would be the closest entrance to the airport.

We are speaking about the entrance on Eisenhower Blvd, entering from SE 17th Street.

This is where the security checkpoint has been moved.

If I were driving a cab from the airport, I would enter on SR84 as well.

Tick-tock, I charge you for waiting in the security line.

Maybe now we can get back to butter.

Living in South Florida I have entered PEV quite frequently and always present my passport card.

ONLY ONCE have I encountered an agent that insisted since I was driving that I MUST show my driver's license. I'm guessing it was the same agent.

My Military ID has worked for years.;)

:D

I traveled all over the world (first as a dependent) then as an Active Duty member with just an ID card. However, that being said, after I got back from Viet Nam, I changed my MOS to 97B (Counter Intel) and RARELY wore my uniform again, THEN, I had to carry a passport.

I happened to drive in to terminal 2 today, 28-April-2018, entering on eisenhower blvd.

It's still outside the security perimeter for the port.

On April 1' date=' going to terminal 2 required no ID check at all. Going to terminal 19 did require an ID.

Yes, the Princess rep on the phone directed us to the wrong terminal, so we had a nice ride around the port area.[/quote']

To know which terminal to go to at Port Everglades, just follow the signs that indicate which terminal each ship is at.
