Pitiful

We were never given a choice and from the day it was booked, we were trying to change it but couldn't get a response on the website and our TA was unable to get a response. We booked almost a year in advance so if it was full then, I would be truly amazed! We eventually got a notification that we had beeen wait listed and when we boarded, we had a letter saying it had been confirmed but when we rocked up for the meal, it didn't happen!
I see. Yeah, sometimes even with advanced booking preferred dining arrangement is full. Especially holiday sailings. I know it’s happened to us and we usually book about a year out as well. Glad they were able to make some version of “fixed” happen!

OP. The reason people are responding the way they did is. 1 - Your title is Pitiful. I would hardly characterize a mishandled "surprise" and someone saying "that is how it is" in casino as pitiful. 2 - You can't describe what surprise was promised and whether it was ever paid for. For all you know card could have been it. 3 - you continue to say you are being attacked which shows you over dramatize events and therefore people are assuming you have overreacted to all of this on ship and 4 - you have not posted advice, answers or positive events in past.

However, over all, DH and I managed to laugh at the mishaps and have a great time on our vacation. It certainly could, and should have gone better, but I think it's all the way you look at life. We choose to make lemonade when life deals us lemons.

Think this is the root of the issue. It’s entirely possible that the OPs prior cruises have been near flawless so in comparison, this is their worst cruise. But, if you travel enough, you will run into issues. Pickpockets, bad service, unpleasant odors, curt staff, etc. Everyone will experience this from time to time, it’s up to the person to decide if it will ruin their trip. And if it does, choosing not to travel with that company again is a reasonable solution. Our ‘worst’ stay was at an all inclusive in Mexico. The food was so bad at times it was funny. All food closed up by 9 so the only solution for late night was waiting and hour or more for room service. One of the shows was a fire show where they were swinging around kerosene filled balls lit on fire and the performers kept lighting their own clothing on fire; and one actually dropped a ball, huddling it into the crowd. None of those things affected our enjoyment of the trip, however. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

... so we just assumed the $45,000 was a Christmas bonus and it would have dropped to the ongoing jackpot as on other cruises, Imagine our surprise ...

OK, I see a trend here, and the possible root cause of your disappointment. As with your story of the server who showed up (too) promptly to clear room-service dishes, once again you made an assumption and are upset that you were wrong. You didn't do anything to check your assumption ( e.g., some simple queries that might have helped you out: "So, you'll be here in 5-10 minutes?" "What prizes are we playing for?" "Who should I talk to about missing luggage?"). Not uncommon, we all make bad assumptions all the time. But you seem to consistently blame others and complain when your assumptions turn out to be wrong. I think that is the tone of your "pitiful" stories that sets people off. I hope your next voyage meets all of your expectations and all of your assumptions turn out to be true!

No wonder your TA could not get a response, they were much to busy planning??? ordering??? and paying??? for your onboard surprise.

Maybe the black and white card was the surprise.

I believe Princess is behind this thread, they know Celebrity beats them on nearly on all points and Princess are trying to get "their" passengers back onboard.:o

You think Princess is behind it.... Sorry, which Princess? I suspect Princess Charlotte ... no, she's too young to be so underhand... Perhaps a 'Star Wars princess...

Maybe it's HAL ! (Harry and Lover)

r4addz, I think what you see that you are interpreting as criticism is partly due to the fact that many don't understand the purpose of your original posts. Having a short posting history on the board is certainly not your fault, we all start sometime. Since all of your posts have been negative, some (myself included) thought you were looking for possible solutions to the problems you expressed and offered possible solutions to prevent them happening in the future, or for post cruise remediation. Others saw the OP as a vitriolic outburst, and felt the need to offer positive experiences of their own to balance a negative one for others to weigh against yours. Not every cruise experience is perfect, regardless of the cruise line. Were you were just looking to vent your frustration? If so, did you expect any responses? What was your purpose for the OP?

The tone for this entire thread was set in the one word title of this thread. “Pitiful

Now seriously where is the camera?

You keep raising issues known to everyone here... no extension cords allowed! Sure they should have made an exception just for YOU, though.

BTW: informed as you are, you are aware that there are both kind of plugs in the stateroom, European and US.

Or was that too far away?

Firstly, although I am not a huge fan of OP, he is absolutely correct that he needs a power strip and extension cord for his CPAP machine as it is a medical device. And, the extension cord should be in good repair and the appropriate receptacle. If the cruise line is going to prohibit items then they need to be repaired to supply the appropriate items needed for his medical device. If it doesn’t reach the outlet from the bed of course he needs a extension cord. He otherwise can’t wjere it in bed which is where/when he needs it.

The OP's many issues appear to result from difficulty communicating with others. He doesn't bother asking what the bingo prizes are before hand and then is annoyed later and lashes out at Celebrity when it turns out that his assumptions are wrong. For the birthday surprise, it appears that there was no clear understanding as to what his TA was going to order or if he did in fact order and pay for any of the special packages. Had he communicated with Special Needs and clearly articulated his requirement for both an extension cord and a multiple outlet power bar to meet his CPAP equipment needs, he would have avoided the issues that he experienced.

Given his multiple tales of woe, the OP reminds me of Joe Btfsplk,, a character many years ago in the satirical comic strip Li'l Abner. He's the world's worst jinx, bringing disastrous misfortune to everyone around him. A small, dark rain cloud perpetually hovers over his head to symbolize his bad luck.

OP...do not feel that you are the only one that this happens to on these boards; many of us have been slammed from time to time and some have decided not to post anymore because of this. The culture of climate nowadays is much more aggressive, IMHO. Yes, there are those that are much more negative and those that are positive, but please take some action on all of these things that have happened and allow us to know the outcome. Sympathy is something that some receive on these boards, but that isn't the case all the time. and does not address your complaints. Write your information to Celebrity and see what their response is to all of these issues...and yes, many of us do enjoy our cruises, along with many of us who have had things go awry...

lol, the OP got super flamed.

However, do I believe the OP? Strangely, I do.

I have tons of horror stories. Staff make mistakes. They can be apathetic, careless, sleep deprived, or just straight up dumb. They are overworked after all, and I become an idiot after working many hours with no sleep. And the more you complain, the more they screw with you, which means you are only digging yourself a hole. It's frustrating, but nothing you can do about it except accept it for what it is.

LOL, after all, she is still only a Princess that time may have forgotten about AND apparently she has yet to learn!

bon voyage

So the lesson I have learned from this thread is that I ever have a cautionary tale for fellow cruisers to keep it to myself. It seems that nobody should dare say anything negative about Celebrity on this forum without getting skewered, so I will keep my experiences to myself.

Well, if I had an unpleasant experience, I might post it solely as a head's up for other people. Not to expect sympathy or to be bad mouthing an entire cruise line based on my personal experience. I'm not saying that is what the OP did; I'm replying to Zoedokey's post.

It is a matter of whether one sees things as a glass half empty or half full. Many things can go wrong and do go wrong.

There was food, you did not get sick and the ship did not sink. To me that was a good cruise.

We have not yet gotten to the part where I was unable to return to work after the cruse till a week later and that I am still on Antibiotics due to a chest infection caught from a member of the bar staff who was coughing all over my drinks. When I queried whether she should be working in her condition I was told, "It's nearly the end of her shift". More was said but it appears people here will probably say it was my fault for drinking there!
