Can hubby and I "share" a Premium Beverage Package?

I saw it on our last cruise - Crown - Nov, '17 - Passenger tried to order a double jack and coke at about 10:30 am or so at the pool bar. Was told no -no doubles covered by the PBP - was really pissed and stated he had had no problem the previous days. walked away mad, came back in about 2 minutes and ordered a jack neat... and was refused. supervisor was called not sure what happened after that...

They can at their discretion set a time limit up between drinks. They did this on the spring break cruise we were on because there was not only sharing of cards going on that they were trying to catch, but they were doing so many shots/drinks at one time and it was unlimited so the kids would come back 10 minutes later and order the same. On that sailing, they instilled a 15 minute drink time between drink orders.

Thanks for the replies. This is all very confusing to me. I've never dealt with this before. It's not my intention to steal from anyone. I didn't know the package was intended just for one person - which is why I asked in the first place. I also don't know the drink prices. I asked the Princess rep on the phone and she said her guess was that bottled water was $2 each, specialty coffees were about $3.50 each, and beers and wine were about $8 each (plus 15% gratuity - which would make them closer to $9.50 or $10). I was thinking that even if we each had two alcoholic drinks, that would be $40 max, plus two coffees at about $8 total (with 15% tip), plus two waters at $4 total, that's only $52. That's still less than the $69 for the package. It sounds like I need to ask more about the different beverage packages offered and the prices of the drinks.

Only line I know of with that rule is Carnival. Not true for Princess.

Interesting selective vision by the OP. Fully aware of the 15 alcoholic drink per day maximum but conveniently overlooking the strictly enforced rule that you can only order one drink at a time.

NCL requires first two guest in cabin to have the same drink package as well.

MDD&R, go into your cruise personalizer and booking and you can see the various drink packages that you can buy. From pre-ordering a 12 pack of water for $6.90 to the coffee card, drink package and non-alcoholic package, the prices and explanations will all be there. You can obviously share the water, can share the coffee card punches but the other 2 packages are per person.

Princess is reasonable with their drink prices. Most beers will run you about $7 including the tip. You can get many drinks at $7 to $12 range prior to tip. Glasses of wine run from $8.50 a glass on up.

Here are some of the drink menus that a poster shared.

This thread shows 2017 photos of most beverage menus; remember to add the 15% gratuity. You 'll need to scroll thru the thread to see the various beverage menus. That should allow you to price them out reasonably accurately. There are various packages you can order....a coffee card (which includes 15 punches that can be used between 2 people) costs a bit over $30. You can order in advance to have a package of water delivered to your room and 6 cans of soda can be delivered for $10 (a $2 savings). The Princess web site will show you most of the available "order in advance" packages.

We both had the package as a perk on our last cruise and will have it again when we sail in March. I'd never pay for it but as a perk I'll take it anytime. We were on a 28 day cruise and my wife took to the cabin with a cold for two days so I was at loose ends and spent a lot of time in Wheelhouse and a couple other places. I actually hit the 15 drink limit one day. I was blown away. They didn't refuse service as I wasn't drunk but they would have had to charge me for the drink. As it was around 1:00 AM I just changed the order to a small San Pellegrino and wandered off to bed. I usually had a bottle of San Pellegrino every night before bed. The IC bar where I usually picked it up late at night actually ran out and I had to switch to Perrier if I wanted to get it there rather than trekking up to Skywalker's.

I never came even close to the limit any other day. My wife often ended up with 4 drinks for the day and that was mostly due to having a beer at lunch and a beer at the pool. 15 drinks is plenty for anybody and Princess certainly doesn't expect most people to ever get to that limit. They offer the package as a money making item.

This thread has a spreadsheet with current prices for Princess drinks that you can enter how many drinks of what kind you expect to drink each day + the length of the cruise and it will tell you if it's worth it for you to buy the AIBP:

Absolutely not. Read the details about the package. I recommend booking during the sip & sail promo and getting it for “free.” We did last year for our upcoming Alaska cruise. We had it on a European itinerary last year and it is so nice to just order away and not worry about the $ adding up! Pre-dinner cocktails, wine with dinner, cognac or port with dessert, and a cappuccino too. Bottled waters to take with us on excursions. It’s super handy! But we could never reach the 15 drink limit.

specialty coffee - 5 bucks

4 beers - 25 bucks

4 premium waters - 10 bucks

2 nice glasses of wine 24 bucks

nightcap - 10 bucks

that's 75 bucks, easy...jess sprayin'

Package eliminates choice because you feel obligated (to yourself and your budget to use the$68.99 p/day)

But can you do that every day of the cruise?

When do you fit in the 4 waters ......everyday ....... [emoji6]??

Just sayin .......

Even with the waters, gun soda's, coffee etc you really need to have at least 5 - 6 alcoholic drinks each day to make it pay off. I have had the plan on multiple cruises and rarely gone over 15 even when it was unlimited - my average is probably 9-10

No, not the same thing. Go back to the analogy of a buffet. Getting a plate for yourself and one for another diner is clearly not allowed. Getting a taste of several things for yourself and then more for yourself is.

The quantity taken might be the same in both cases, but the loss to the restaurant (in revenue they would have made if the second diner paid for the their food) is not.

As above' date=' the package is intended for one person and can be canceled if you are caught sharing. You are definitely not permitted to get two beverages at one time. You can get "up to" 15 alcoholic drinks per day for a single individual. There are several charts available to help you decide whether the package will be financially beneficial for you or whether you'd be better off on a "pay as you go" basis.

This is different than the coffee card where you have purchased a total of 15 "punches" that can be used in any way you wish. You can get a specialty coffee for yourself and your 14 best friends at a single time there, but the "unlimited" brewed coffee and tea is for the card holder only.[/quote']

Actually you can get 2 beverages at a time...bottled/sparkling H2o, coffee or coke etc. and 1 alcoholic drink. ... I've had the package before and after the change in November and will be having it on my upcoming cruise.

Some ships have the BOGO happy hours where you can buy one drink and get one for $1. If you time things right, it makes having the beverage card even less worthwhile.

I must agree.....we have paid for it 2xs and now have had it 4 times on a the sip& sail promo......2 of our sip & sail sailings....prices dropped and we chose not to rebook...ultimately we ended up with a BOGO sip and sail.....pretty much determining we each had to drink 35 USD worth to brake even on our cruise, easy 4 me, DH not!. I really do like it for the convenience......but with the price increase and changes...I am booking other promos..and maybe will spring for the package for me only, once on the ship..In fact, the 3rd offer of Sip & Sale I chose not to take advantage of....

The package is only worthwhile if you like more than a few drinks a day - it does not work for everybody but for some of us it saves lots of money - my average is probably 2-3 waters, 2-3 coffees, 2-3 sodas wine with lunch and dinner, 2-3 cocktails pre dinner and maybe 4-5 cocktails in the casino - the package definitely saves me money

Even better, Someone might be advocating for their right to sharing the "buffet", yet they are famous for bringing unlimited quantity of "food" aboard.

In what way?

NCL certainly makes the first two adults in the same cabin purchase the same drink package. Period. I believe I’d read RCCL does as well.

Celebrity, Princess, HAL, and most upscale lines do not. Carnival, NCL, and some of the lower priced lines do have this requirement. We can argue forever whether it is "most" lines or not, but certainly there is a significant portion that do not have such a rule.
