Is the Steakhouse worth it?

Was considering booking the Steakhouse and pick up the complimentary wine on night one. Is the Steakhouse really worth the price, compared to the MDR I already paid for? Have never tried it, curious what veterans of the Steakhouse think. Does it vary from ship to ship, or just changes the name? Going on the Glory if that's the case.

We try to go to the Steak House once each cruise. They are superb and we have never been disappointed. If you go I recommend the chocolate sampler for dessert after a wonderful steak!

yes, yes and yes, we ate there 2 nights ago and it was fabulous. You can not get a steak of that quality in the states for $35 ala cart. When you add, lobster bisque, or onion soup, crab cake, Caesar salad, you have a $100 per person meal at Ruth's Chris or Mortons. The service is excellent, atmosphere beautiful. We go at least 2 times every cruise. My wife's Chilean Sea bass was one of the best pieces of fish I ever tasted. My NY steak was cooked perfectly MR. enough said?

I think it is! So yes! It’s an elegant meal, delicious and very worth every penny.

Count us in the minority. We really don’t think it’s worth it. Don’t get me wrong, the food is fantastic. But between the time commitment and cost, we find better value in the MDR.

Not interested in spending $70 plus wine charges, when we can eat a very decent meal for no charge. Maybe if it were our anniversary, birthday etc. Take care of your $$ and afford to cruise again.

It looks worth it. The steaks look huge. I don't each as much as that, so I'm fine with the free food. But if I went with my husband and had the steakhouse option, I'd definitely do it for him. He loves some good steak.

This is precisely why we choose to dine in the Steakhouse multiple times on every cruise. Just got back from a 4 day on the Liberty and we ate there 2 nights, on our cruise before that we ate there 3 of 8 nights. It is definitely worth the fee and you won't find anything on land close to the flavor or value! Do yourself a favor and try it at least once!

In all the years we’ve cruised, we only ate in a specialty restaurant once, and that was my birthday gift from my hubby, as it was my 63rd birthday, and that was just last year. We have 2 Carnival cruises booked (Breeze for 2019 and Magic for 2020) and I doubt we will book a specialty. After paying for the cruise that includes food, I feel silly spending extra. BTW—-the cruise in 2020 is for our 50th Anniversary and we will have about 25 people sailing with us, so going to a specialty is definitely out.

The food and service are worth the cost. I too eat at the steak house at least one night each cruise. It’s also nice to get away from the crowd and the noise of the MDR for one evening. Try it and then you will know for next time.

Please give it a try! You won't be disappointed. We eat in the steakhouse at least 2 times on each of our cruises. Yes, it may sound strange having to pay to eat when you can eat free anywhere else on the ship but it sure is worth every penny! The meals in the steakhouse are worth experiencing at least once. Then you can decide for yourself. Bon appetite!

"Worth it?" is meaningless.

 

There's little about dining, other than sanitation and perhaps time involved, that isn't subjective.

 

They serve a really good meal in a lovely setting with generally very good service, for a fee.

 

Your dinner in the MDR, is included in your cruising price regardless of whether you choose to eat there.

 

I enjoy eating in the Steakhouse once per 7-day cruise, but do so only if my cabin mate requests it.

 

On the other hand I think of the Chef's Table as being the best "excursion" offered by Carnival on any itinerary/ship. I don't want to sail without it. I also completely understand why the majority of cruisers think it isn't "worth it."

Yes, absolutely yes! We eat at the steakhouse 2-3 times per cruise, and it is worth every penny!

We always get the drink package, so the free wine is of no consequence to us, on the last cruise, I took the unopened bottle the first night and stopped on the Promenade and gave it to a Lady sitting at a small table. I have drank the free wine before, and it is OK unless you’re a wine snob. :cool::cool:

I tried the steakhouse on my 3rd Carnival sailing on the Sunshine and loved loved loved it, even more so that Cagney's on NCL. All 3 specialty restaurants (JiJi Asian, Cucina del Capitano @ $15 and Farenheit @ $35 we ate at were so worth the money and I am definitely a foodie. We are getting married in November on the Conquest with 50 people joining us and I already have booked us at the Steakhouse for 2 nights and the Chef's Table for another night. I will definitely book Steakhouse on my 2019 Breeze cruise.

If you enjoy the MDR food, then NO..the steakhouse isn't worth it for you. If you're not impressed with the MDR offerings, then the Steakhouse might thrill you.

Nah, I'm good with the MDR. We did steakhouse first cruise and ya, the food is a step up but I'm not that picky and I like the options in MDR. I'd rather spend the money somewhere else.

For some, it's not always about the money. You probably do not eat $100 dinners at home either. Fortunately we can afford more cruising and the Steakhouse and the Chef's Table.

I booked the steakhouse after reading all the great reviews on CC. I think it will be a great way to kick off the cruise! I know that my husband will have zero problems eating all that food! However, I eat very little (yes, I know I am not getting my $$ worth, It’s not about the $). This may be a silly question, but, is it possible to order smaller portions or at least get a doggy bag in the steakhouse?

I have no problem with any of the main dining room food. It is of good quality, and prepared to my liking with service that is well above average.

 

The steakhouse offers a meal that is on another plane for both food and service. One can have a good meal in either venue, but truly great steaks are available in the steakhouse. I work in a resort that has similar fare, and we pay more for an aged rib eye than the $35 Carnival charges.

 

In the end the fee is not really important, a tasty, properly prepared, top quality meal is the bottom line.

I’m just going to assume you are addressing me even though you did not quote my post. I eat cold leftover steak & the veggies from steakhouses all the time. I typically eat 6 x’s a day so have been known to pick at my leftovers later that evening or throughout the following day. I do not eat in buffets in regular life so have no intention of eating in the buffet on my cruise. Now, am I worthy of an actual answer to my question or would you like to know more about my eating habits, Coevan?

Gotta try it at least once to determine for yourself. In my experience it was mediocre for a purported fine dining experience and not worth the price. Service was OK but certainly not praise worthy. Many of the sides appeared on the MDR menu as well and the desserts were especially disappointing. To top it all off, the group from hell seated at the next table(s) made the entire experience memorable - but not in a good way. The staff just shrugged and said there was nothing they could do.

I like the Steakhouse once on any given cruise, as a diversion from MDR.

 

It's worth the charge to me or better yet, when I get a comp from the casino...LOL:D
