Where did you get the information that NCL had a 50lb. weight limit ?

No weight limits on a cruise ship.

Airlines do keep to the 50 lb limit per bag and will charge for overweight.

Ie- Southwest charges $75 dollars for an overweight bag.

Plan accordingly.

Know before you go !:D

I thought I had seen something about this, so I went back and checked.

This information comes from the NCL.com FAQ section.

How many suitcases can I bring?

Each person is allowed up to two pieces of personal luggage on board, with each piece weighing a maximum of 50 pounds. However, if passengers are traveling by air, they need to check with the airline for specific restrictions.

Its set so that the stewards don't have to drag overweight cases around the ship. Why people need to bring more than 40 lbs of clothes on a cruise is always a mind bender for me, especially on Norwegian because there is no need for fancy clothes.

Some people maybe traveling either before and after the cruise. I did last year, I was away for 7 weeks from cold to hot weather so had to pack accordingly.

Same for me this year travelling before in Barcelona and then heading to see friends after, having to pack for all weathers isn’t easy IMHO.

Maybe one wants to wear some fancy clothes. Maybe one likes heavy clothes? Maybe one will be cruising Alaska with planned excursions that require heavy clothes.

Why people make such judgemental comments to anything that is different from what they would do, is a mind bender to me.

50 pounds is the magic weight because some standards move from a one-person lift to a two-person lift for weights over 50 pounds,,,, but cruise ships are not known for adhering to standards.

Steamer trunks are out of vogue !

If your luggage has WHEELS all that much the better for all concerned.

Even better when two pieces can be stacked together and pulled as one unit.

Rule of Thumb - if when grabbing your luggage by its handle the handle comes off

your luggage is too heavy !

If the empty luggage weighs more than the contents - you have a problem !

Leave the kitchen sink at home and you will be just fine !
