Royal Vs Celebrity

Recommended Posts

No water slides or rock walls.

Food tends to be better.

Very relaxing

Staff (IMHO) one step above Royal.

Staterooms a little better appointed.

No smoking in most places including the casino

A little dressier especially on the more formal nights.

Lots of different age groups

After about a dozen on each line we would choose Celebrity over Royal if they had the same itineraries and dates.

Summit a few times and as always a great ship, prefer it over the Solstice class, but not that big a deal.

Have a great Honeymoon and cruise.

I have been on the Equinox and the Summit. Love them both, but the Summit is much older although still wonderful and Bermuda is romantically amazing. The Equinox we went to the ABC Islands and it was our best cruise to date. Beautiful, romantic, unbelievable service and food. Give Celebrity a try. I don’t think you will regret it!

Assuming the OP is sailing after March 2019, the Summit will have completed her Celebrity Revolution dry dock, which seems to be pretty extensive.

Doesn't eliminate the fact that she is an older ship, but it will bring her up with the times a bit.

Celebrity is very low keyed , entertainment can not compare to rccl. Celebrity buffet was ten times better than rccl. If it is in your budget we love the suite perks on celebrity, all there ships have a suite restaurant with excellent food and service, also there suite lounge is elegant with free drinks from early morning to midnight, not just the 3.5 hours rccl has. Solstice is a beautiful ship.

Having only sailed once on Celebrity so far and we chose "Aqua Class" I can tell you we really enjoyed our cruise aboard the Infinity for a California Coastal. As said there are no rock climbing walls, surfriders and such so less families with children, more of a relaxing experience. That's not to say they don't party on Celebrity....we experienced a "silent party" for the first time and had a ball.......the extra cost of aqua class was a nice experience but we'd most likely not do it again. Blu restaurant is fantastic, they through in the beverage package so full bottles of wine were at our table for us to use throughout our meals. Would not hesitate to sail again given right price/itinerary.

We are Diamond on Royal which makes us Elite on Celebrity. We have cruised three times on Celebrity and have a fourth scheduled next summer. We love both lines but have been leaning towards Royal as we get a bit older. Plenty of good entertainment but we find the food and service a bit better, enjoy the only once daily announcements (unless of an emergency), and the "free" drink package that is typically an option when booking. We have been fortunate and have not found them any more expensive than Royal. The demographics scales a bit on the older side but there have still been plenty of families on board, but just not overwhelming. Give them a try, I think you might like the experience!

My wife and I cruise on both Royal and Celebrity several times a year. Our preference is for 4-5 day cruises out of Florida ports and that means that Celebrity offers limited variety for us. Royal generally has 3 ships doing those short cruises during the warmer half of the year and 4-5 during the cooler half while Celebrity has only the Infinity and even that ship only sails out of Florida from October to April. That said, we prefer the food on Celebrity but the entertainment on Royal. Usually, we seem to get more value for our money from Celebrity, even though the cruise fare is usually a little higher on Celebrity. Celebrity often has promotions that include complimentary beverage packages, $300 on-board credits and prepaid gratuities. I have never seen that much offered on Royal.

Royal Caribbean has nothing even remotely similar to Aqua Class and we love the Blu restaurant. When we want to splurge a little, we go for a Sky Suite on Celebrity, which is the size of and priced like a Junior Suite on Royal but has more perks (for those short cruises) than a Grand Suite on Royal. Those Sky Suites come with unlimited access to Luminae and Michael's Club and, IMHO, Michael's Club is nicer than any Royal Suite Lounge. For the short cruises that we prefer, Royal has nothing comparable to either Luminae or Blu. On the other hand, we are D+ on Royal and therefore have access to the Diamond Club. We are Elite on Celebrity but the Captain's Club Cocktail event is not nearly as nice as most Diamond Clubs. The bottom line for us is that we mostly end up on Celebrity in the winter when the Infinity is in Fort Lauderdale and on Royal the rest of the year.

I've been on Celebrity once and Royal Caribbean twice with another cruise booked in November. I would say Celebrity had better food than Royal Caribbean. I didn't really go to shows so I cant comment on that. I remember less smoking and kids. I highly recommend Celebrity for a honeymoon! I would definitely go on them again.

We’ve done mostly Royal but one 7 night eastern Caribbean cruise on the Equinox. Food was a small notch better on celebrity. Service also seemed to be a small notch better on celebrity. The one thing I noticed was that by about day six or seven I had kind of ran out of things to do on the ship and it felt like I was doing a lot of repeat. I missed some of the variety of activities that broke up the days like on the royals ships. Overall our cruise on celebrity was still fantastic. Love the sunset bar and the grassy area and all of the fantastic ocean views on the S class ships

The suite lounge on the Allure has beer, wine, and soft drinks available 11am-11pm besides the full menu for 3 1/2 hours.

I have done thirty odd RC cruises but only one Celebrity cruise on the Eclipse and that was well below RC standard. while the food was better the waiter team and room steward were probably the worst I have found. The captain had to send a written apology round for docking errors, at St Thomas they had to tender as the dock booked didn't have sufficient draft for the ship etc. Events started late and even getting off the ship was a farce with long waits for immigration, customs and shuttles. Having said that I am giving them another chance and have booked with Celeb for 2019 lured by the ports and the non smoking casino.

We had been talking up cruising to our adult kids for years trying to get them to go on one with us. Finally they relented. We always cruise on RCCL but the only cruise available during the time all of the kids were available was on Celebrity. So we booked it. The biggest difference we found was that everything seemed to close down early on Celebrity. We had late seating for dinner. When we got out of dinner there was only one bar open- the pool was closed as were all the hot tubs. I had three young people who like to stay up late and there was nothing for them to do. They were very disappointed.

We always find things to do late at night on RCCL. Always more than one bar open. Can sit in a hot tub at midnight. I think Celebrity tends to have an older demographic- at least they seemed older on the cruise we were on.

We have 48 cruises on Royal and 3 on Celebrity, I think the two lines are more alike than different. I do love the smoke free casinos on Celebrity but Royal wins on entertainment and fun. Food and service are very similar on both lines.

Royal was my first love but we sail Celebrity when itinerary and price line up.:D

We had a great experience on the equinox in June. Even though we are Diamond plus on royal, we are now going to go for the best deal (or itin). We got, what I would consider, the greatest deal with perks. We did miss the track and the comedy club on the Rccl oasis class ships though.

Hi Cruisers,

I currently have 95 nights with Royal and 25 more nights booked, im considering tring Celebrity for a change and maybe for the honeymoon. How would you compare Celebrity to Royal? Relaxing? id be looking at a caribbean on a solstice class or Summit to Bermuda

I just did Summit to Bermuda and really enjoyed it. If you like RC, you will like Celebrity as they are owned by the same company. Your status points will even transfer from the Crown and Anchor Society to the Repeat Cruiser club and vice-versa.

The Summit is scheduled to go into dry dock soon for a "mani-pedi"[emoji1] . This is scheduled for next year, but even so, the ship is really well-maintained. The crew is excellent as well.

We have 11 cruises with Royal and 5 with Celebrity.

We like both. Find Celebrity a bit more refined without being snobby.

Better food in both buffets and mdr.

We actually find entertainment quite nice, but we prefer Vegas style production shows over Broadway on both lines. Of course Celebrity doesn't have all sports and other innovations like Royal .

In room toiletries are much better on Celebrity.

Because of your Diamond status with Royal you will have Elite status with Celebrity, so you will have access to the lounge, although hours are shorter.

We have cruised 4x with Celebrity (Constellation, Silhouette, Equinox)

We have cruised 2x with RCCL (Mariner, Allure) with the Anthem booked this December.

Interestingly, the Allure was our favorite cruise & the Mariner was our LEAST favorite.

We began cruising on Princess & love the plethora of activity offerings.

We were very disappointed with the activity offerings on Mariner--they were EXTREMELY lacking.

The Allure won us back--the large ship ensured MANY activities!

Our last 4 cruises have been Celebrity. Why?

Value, frankly--we were getting balconies with drink packages (and usually some OBC, tips, internet) for the price on other lines with NO extras!

We found the Constellation (the smallest ship we have sailed) to be a tad quieter, with activity offerings along the line that Mariner offered.

But the larger Celebrity ships had a greater assortment, if not quite up to the level of the huge Allure or Princess.

DH & I agree that Celebrity is a small tick better than RCCL or Princess--the service, public areas, etc. are just a tad better. Not much--we find the lines we have sailed (all these plus DCL) to be more alike than different.

It's really a personal preference depending on what you like do on your cruise. My husband and I went on a Celebrity cruise about 5 years ago and while we enjoyed ourselves we probably won't do one again until we are in our 50's, possibly 60s.

It seemed like everything shut down early and the entertainment was lacking compared to Royal. It was very relaxing, but we didn't really do much during the day. A lot of the people were older than us and constantly commented on my age (I am 33, but do look younger). One person even called me his child bride.

We were in the Aqua Class and LOVED the food in Blu (I think it's called). It was much better than the food on Royal. The dining room was beautifully decorated and the views were beautiful as well. I found the service on Celebrity to be much better as well.
