Escorted off Ship -Debarkation

Recommended Posts

Junior Suite? - Nothing

Grand Suite or higher, the concierge will leave a letter in your cabin offering a meeting place and will offer to escort you to the front of the check out line to get off the ship. After you have ran your final ding,,, you're off on your own to retrieve luggage and clear customs and immigrations if required.

On the Harmony and the Oasis. We got escorted off all the way to customs. Less than 5 minutes from ship to street.

Just make sure you know where the meeting area is, and what times.

Being "escorted off the ship" is NOT a good thing. On Royal it is when an officer watches you pack up your belongings and takes you off the ship in a port other than the home port and leaves you to find your own way home. We have seen this happen more than once. One time a newlywed couple spent a couple of sea days under guard, separately, and were taken off the ship by way of different gangways, in handcuffs. Both were cited for domestic abuse. Short honeymoon!

Suites and Pinnacles get escorted another way. The concierge meets you in a predestined place. Then escorts you off the ship. No waiting in lines for luggage customs etc.

It is a great perk, we have been in OS three times on Oasis and Allure. First two times there were two meeting times in the Suite Lounge and this most recent (October) on Oasis we meet in Champagne Bar. I think they changed due to complaints about monopolizing an elevator. First time we were escorted all the way to baggage claim. The last two times only escorted to the ramp to the claim area.

However, keep in mind there might be a suite only CBP line. The last two times we were able to avoid the long lines, it helped we did luggage valet, and just go to the very short "suite" only line. Make sure to ask as it's not well marked and some terminal workers aren't aware of it. The first time we got turned away, until another worked overheard and allowed us into the line.

Not sure what ship you are on. If you are in Star Class on Oasis class or whatever class Anthem is part of you will get escorted directly to the customs place. It only takes minutes to get off.

As I posted it was Oasis, Allure, and Oasis (most recently) and we were not escorted all the way to Customs only to the floor.

"Being escorted" isn't a necessity! Simply leave when you're ready!

If you do that you will have to wait in the customs line. When being escorted off the Harmony 7/7/18 (met in Coastal Kitchen) and the Oasis 7/15/18 (met in Champagne Bar) we were taken right to the customs booth.

5 minutes from ship to the loading area.

Didn't ask my question, properly, sorry. I was really asking about "the get off" process at a port of call eg. Nassau. How does that work?

This will probably depend on the ship but I will describe our experience on Allure last year.

Concierge asked suite guests to gather in nightclub on deck 4. We were escorted off the ship before the other guests. This only happened in Nassau where there is a bit of rush to get off the ship due to limited time. At other ports, there was no congestion or special arrangements for getting off the ship.

uhh actually its a well loved perk to be able to skip the line of people trying to get off the ship. even if you don't get anything more than that, it can save you a lot of time

when the all clear sounds, you walk down to the appropriate deck. as a general rule, Genies can escort you to the front. anyone else, you MIGHT have a separate line. otherwise, its a free for all that doesn't really take a lot of time at all.

the only real advantage is for tender ports where you can usually go straight down and grab the first or second tender( after ship sponsored excursions) without having to grab a tender ticket.

Same, you will meet somewhere, and the concierge will take you in groups down to the exit and past the people waiting to check out of the ship.

Same for tenders, they will tell you a time to be on one of the first tenders, and zip, there you are.

On Grandeur last year, meeting was outside the CL, in the lobby of the Viking Crown Lounge. He had one elevator locked out, and it expressed to the departure desk, then back up to the CL for the next batch.

We’ve been cruising in Grand Suites and absolutely love the perks, including being escorted off the ship to our luggage that’s set apart from the rest, and priority line through customs. On our last cruise on Radiance, we enjoyed breakfast in Chops and when we were ready, we told our Concierge and he escorted us off. This doesn’t happen on all ships but it was great.

That being said, in order to cruise often like we’ve been doing, we’ve had to step back and book a JS or balcony. Wonder how I’ll adjust.

We sailed on Harmony in May. While not suite guests, I noticed there was a special hold area for the luggage of suites guests. It was fairly close to the Customs desks and there was a special line for them. So you can get off the ship at your own pace an still bypass the normal line.
