we will be arriving back in Fort lauderdale on April 1 but not flying home until April 2 All of the hotels seem to have 3 pm check in . What does one do with their luggage in the time you disembark( which is always early) and check in time. Any recommendations for a reasonable hotel close to port and airport? Thanks for any tips.

Bones,

If you go to the Florida Departures forum, there's lots of hotel information. What is your definition of "reasonable"? Hotels in Ft. Lauderdale can be pricey, especially at certain times of the year such as spring break.

Don't be afraid to call the hotel and ask about the situation.

Generally, that afternoon check-in rule is to allow housekeeping sufficient time to clean a large number of rooms and have them ready. IF they are aware of your situation, a forward-thinking hotel will know to have one room ready for you before 10:00 a.m. You need to ask. You need to be polite. You need to thank them when you leave, letting the hotel folks know that you have friends (Cruise Critic) who would appreciate their hospitality.

Yes, the hotel will store your bags until your room is ready. As far as "reasonable" goes...in that general beach area, "reasonable" is in the $300-400 a night, for the most part. Go onto "Hotels.com" and just look around...see what prices are for your timeframe. I like that site because it's easy to compare locations, prices and amenities of hotels. BUT...don't book through that site...find the phone number of the hotel you want, and call them directly...you can almost always get a better price! Ask about "specials" they might be having....any savings is good!

define 'reasonable'

$300/night for a standard middle of the road chain hotel is not unheard of during spring break. many also impose a minimum stay requirement as well.

any (safe) hotel will store your luggage with bell services until the room is ready.

Most hotels in the FLL area will store bags for the day.

"Reasonable" depends on the number of ships and the expected volume of cruise passengers wanting to spend the night. Some cruises generate few business the night before or after a cruise. Others will fill up the available space. Rooms are priced accordingly.

I can only speak for the Fort Lauderdale Hilton Marina, about 6 minutes from the port, that has a 3:00 PM check-n. They will store your luggage in a locked facility until you wish to check in if you arrive early so you can catch the water taxi and experience Fort Lauderdale for awhile. Many rooms are cleaned by noon and you can check in at that time as long as you let the Front Desk know you will be waiting in the lobby to be called. We have never waited past noon for early check-in at this hotel.

Since Mondays are not a big cruise ship departure day, you should not have a problem with early check-in but arriving on a weekend will push you to the noon time frame.

If you have a reservation you can ask the hotel to put your bags in a storage area until the room is ready.

IIRC we stayed a couple times at the Quality Inn at 2520 Stirling Rd.

If you are a FF with any particular hotel chain, the local hotel will often do day storage of bags when you are enroute from A to B.
