How do you keep your cell phone/wallet safe during a water excursion?

Why more than one cell phone? Why a wallet?

At most, all you need is individual ship cards, any gov't ID required by that port, one credit card, some cash and one cell phone with a decent built-in camera (e.g., iPhone 7+ or newer). Stow them in a small waterproof case with lanyard like this and you're good to go.

Don't forget to bring the contact info for the ship's port agent and, unless it's required by local authorities (fairly rare), NEVER take your passport ashore. Leave it in your cabin safe unless you are fortunate enough to sail on a ship that requires you to surrender them at embarkation. The safest practice (and most convenient for foreign immigration/customs clearance on arrival at certain ports) is for the ship's Purser to have your passports securely stored away.

BTW, if you want too be super safe with these hard cases regarding watertightness, you could put the phone in a sealable plastic freezer bag and then into the case.

Also, if your chipped credit card ever ends up spending time in salt water, do rinse it off. Those chips are subject to corrosion.

You can get swim pouches from Amazon. Just test it before you trust your phone.

I also put my phone in a plastic a zip lock bag for extra protection.

Be sure to get one with the lanyard attached to a straight-across piece of plastic and not one that curves upward (they are much weaker).

 

I don't swim or go near the water i.e. beaches, but if I did I would get one of the card-sized water-proof containers

Just a reminder to always test your waterproof pouches/cases. Even if they work well today, they might not work so well tomorrow. Over the years I have gone through many. Those Ziploc bags are cheap extra protection.

 

Bring cash, but leave your wallet in the safe. All you need is your sign & sail card, a photo ID, and one credit card.

Whatever it is, you should keep it on your person or entrust it to someone traveling with you. The more fragile/cumbersome something is, the more you should question whether you really need to bring it along.

While inconvenient, we just ensured that one of us was always near our stuff while on the beach or on the excursion boat.

Credit card chips will eventually corrode if not rinsed after salt water immersion.

I have a waterproof eye glass case that is large enough to carry everything

During my last cruise, I used the Freegrace Waterproof Dry Bags set which included a cell phone pouch. It worked out great. Please note that a 5L bag was surprisingly bigger than expected.
